If I could give ZERO stars I would . The entire experience was HORRIBLE ..... with a capital HORRIBLE . 1. The drinks ... no way they were made by a bartender . Not possible . I sent it back and the second drink was ok. The next drink was supposed to be an "old fashion" . Never seen this drink served with ice cubes 2. Food comes out cold . 3 Mash potatoes had to be the worst I have ever tasted. _Chicken was dry rotisserie from any local supermarket . Steak was a large slab of fat carcass and delivered cold as well. Server was a nice person ... she knew the food was Terrible. I spoke to the manager .. his suggestion was to email the owner and call someone ... he wasn't responsible for the chef. He offered us a dessert . My bill exceeded $400 And no one finished their food as it wasn't edible. We didn't even except the dessert . Salad was good . Awful !!! read more

Our group of 6 dined on a Tuesday evening. It's a charming smallish space with a separate cozy bar. We ordered reasonably priced wine bottles and were delighted by warm bread with honey butter before even placing our food orders. We shared the puff pastry tarts with caramelized onions, apples and gruyere cheese. Our entrees included the chef's special of rockfish with roasted Brussel sprouts and carrots; steak and frites; and regular menu entrees of beef bourguignon over mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy and roasted carrots; and the crab and avocado pizza. All delicious! The friendly chef checked on our group and suggested the desserts baked in-house. The heavenly NY style cheesecake was so perfectly creamy and topped with plump blackberries in a sauce and whipped cream. Best cheesecake some of us have ever had. One diner would not share a bite of his chocolate torte, it was so good. The bread pudding was very good. We are still talking about the meal the next morning. What a lovely dining experience! This is a cool restaurant located in the downstairs of Hotel Weyanoke. While the website says they open at 4:30pm, they actually don't open until 5:00pm. But the staff was nice enough to let us grab a few drinks, which we did. And I'm so glad we did! I had the raspberry lime Rickey and it was absolutely perfect, a gorgeous drink! Our bartender even gave us a free drink of the day, the tropical breeze. Yummy! We decided to eat dinner elsewhere because we wanted to watch some college football, so off we went. However, we did come back for nightcaps and dessert. I was literally so happy with my sweet potato cheesecake I could have died and gone to heaven right there! Definitely a sweet spot! read more

Look, my hopes are never that high for the restaurant in my hotel, but the concierge said it's good so we were up for trying Taproot. Holy smokes! Forget the fact that it's attached to Hotel Weyanoke. This place is a fabulous fancy restaurant in its own right. We started with the BEST Brussels sprouts I've ever tasted - a symphony of soy, honey and toasted cashews. Then the Southern Comfort fried chicken salad - literal heaven on a plate. Complimentary bread was great too, as was the Caesar salad. Then, while we were trying to decide if we had room for dessert, our friendly and fabulous server told us we could have a chocolate caramel turtle tart on the house. Well okay, twist our arm - and it was pure and utter decadence! What a meal - definitely our best in Virginia. Bravo! read more

We stayed at the Hotel Weyanoke so dining here is ultra convenient. We were seated promptly and had the pleasure of having a wonderful waitress named Heather. She really was engaging and fun which made the dinner even more memorable. She went out of her way to let us sample 3 red wines to decide which we wanted with our dinner. Our meals were delicious. I had the pork chop and my husband had the hanger steak. My pork chop was huge and the accompanying mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts were perfect. I'd definitely eat there again if I find myself back in Farmville! read more

I have never reviewed a restaurant online, so this is not my typical response to a poor experience. First let me start with the positive. The food was delicious. The server was nice but staffing is spread thin. It took a long time to get our food. So why is my review only one star? The owner of the restaurant is neglecting the experience of it's patrons and staff by providing a horrible acoustical experience. My husband and I could not hear each other over the overwhelming noise caused by only hard surfaces with NOTHING to soften it. We couldn't wait for our experience to end. read more

I was excited to try something new being I am not from Farmville. Our service was absolutely horrid! The bartender was also our waitress. We ordered Cesar Salad Filet Med Rare Porterhouse Pork We didn't ever get the Cesar because the bartender said oops I got really busy, the Filet was Medium to Medium Well and my pork literally I couldn't cut through it with a steak knife! We waited for a bit to tell the waitress about the food but she never came to table so we just ate it. My porterhouse I literally picked up and ate just biting it . When the waitress came back and we told her what all had transpired because she never came back her response was yea I just got really busy. Then the printers were broke and couldn't give me a ticket that would use for business receipt. The over all response was ..... yea sorry about that! Wow! We were so excited to try another restaurant in FarmVille while visiting our daughter. Taproot is located in the bottom level of the Hotel Weyanoke and the ambience was more upscale than I would've expected for a tavern. I expected more of a bar atmosphere with pub type food. Instead the food choices are sophisticated. We were seated right away at a table by the front window. The service was a little slow in the beginning but we had no where we needed to be so we enjoyed the leisure. We ordered, enjoyed our drinks and the delicious complimentary bread. My husband and I had the vegetable lasagna which was amazing! Our daughters had the tomato bisque and wedge salad which they enjoyed very much. I don't even know where to begin! Our daughter and husband ate here while visiting the campus when our granddaughter was deciding on colleges, they really enjoyed their meal and raved about it. When we came to Farmville, we had to try it out and Taproot did not disappoint, Deb talked with us and made us feel so welcome, I felt like our granddaughter had a friend if she needed one. A quick 2 months later we are back, unfortunately our granddaughter is facing surgery this week for an injury, so we needed a familiar place to get great food, we headed to Taproot, Deb had suggested the rooftop lounge for a beautiful sunset view on our next visit so we headed up there, had a cocktail and watched the sunset, then downstairs to Taproot for another delicious meal! Deb remembered us and we felt like we had come by to visit a friend. We have tried many entrees over these visits and everything was delicious! Someone mentioned in a review about the price, we have eaten out a lot in FarmVille during the last week, prices aren't any different and by far the best food in town is here!!! The food has a nice presentation and excellent taste. We were staying at Hotel Weyanoke (which we will NOT be revisiting!) and were told to try this hidden gem. Giddyup! We had the trout and the burger - made of brisket and sirloin! Made this Texas gal very happy as we rarely find brisket done right in VA. This place is a hidden gem!!! We came to visit the college and stayed in the Wyenoke. The Taproot sits below the hotel and was total shocker! Great cocktails made with class! The menu is incredible and the flavors are incredible. It's obvious the chef has a strong culinary background. We had the marinated Hawaiian ginger ribeye and stuffed shrimp!!! Wow!!! Being from California we have had amazing seafood and steaks and this was up with some of the top restaurants on the west coast especially for the price!
