Here for Valentines weekend! We split the calamari Caesar which we both agreed was the best part of the meal!! He very much enjoyed the crab cakes and I enjoyed the mushroom risotto. Great service and extremely attentive with a relaxing romantic ambiance!

This is a cool restaurant located in the downstairs of Hotel Weyanoke. While the website says they open at 4:30pm, they actually don't open until 5:00pm. But the staff was nice enough to let us grab a few drinks, which we did. And I'm so glad we did! I had the raspberry lime Rickey and it was absolutely perfect, a gorgeous drink! Our bartender even gave us a free drink of the day, the tropical breeze. Yummy! We decided to eat dinner elsewhere because we wanted to watch some college football, so off we went. However, we did come back for nightcaps and dessert. I was literally so happy with my sweet potato cheesecake I could have died and gone to heaven right there! Definitely a sweet spot!

We stayed at the Hotel Weyanoke so dining here is ultra convenient. We were seated promptly and had the pleasure of having a wonderful waitress named Heather. She really was engaging and fun which made the dinner even more memorable. She went out of her way to let us sample 3 red wines to decide which we wanted with our dinner. Our meals were delicious. I had the pork chop and my husband had the hanger steak. My pork chop was huge and the accompanying mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts were perfect. I'd definitely eat there again if I find myself back in Farmville!

I hate to give this restaurant 5 stars bc the more people find out about this hidden gem the harder it will be to make a reservation. Absolutely love the staff and the dishes are impeccably crafted and served. Hands down the best place to dine in Farmville VA. Love, Love, Love! Save room for dessert

Time after time after time it's perfect. Even with staff issues and normal post covid issues, the kitchen execution was great. This chef really cares. So 3 reviews over a year. A covid year at that. It's 5 star again. Feels so mom and pop at times, yet feels so Manhattan at other times. We will keep coming.

Phenomenal. Have been fortunate enough to eat halfway around the world and back again and this is in my top ten. Our server was stellar, the food was exceptional, the ambience upscale yet not stuffy, the chairs I wish I could take home & as my dad said, "I only wish I hadn't eaten lunch!". Please make the drive & have dinner at Taproot Tavern. You won't regret it!! All the best, your friend in food & life, Jen

Wow! We were so excited to try another restaurant in FarmVille while visiting our daughter. Taproot is located in the bottom level of the Hotel Weyanoke and the ambience was more upscale than I would've expected for a tavern. I expected more of a bar atmosphere with pub type food. Instead the food choices are sophisticated. We were seated right away at a table by the front window. The service was a little slow in the beginning but we had no where we needed to be so we enjoyed the leisure. We ordered, enjoyed our drinks and the delicious complimentary bread. My husband and I had the vegetable lasagna which was amazing! Our daughters had the tomato bisque and wedge salad which they enjoyed very much. I would highly recommend this restaurant, especially for special occasions and date night!

Amazing food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff. We started the evening with a drink on the rooftop bar. A quick elevator ride straight down to this cozy restaurant. The quality and presentation was top notch! For a starter we shared a very generous portion of roasted brussel sprouts. I had the salmon and parmesan risotto and the rest of my party had the trout. Highly recommend this local gem.

View from the rooftop! Wish I had pictures of our food, but no one could wait to eat before I could get a picture!

It was my first time visiting Farmville, and I wanted to check out a local restaurant for dinner. I…read moredid notice that Charley's had varied reviews but the more recent ones seemed positive, so we gave it a go for dinner. It was a nice day, so we asked to sit outside. As a party of two, they don't allow you to sit waterside, because, as I heard the host tell most every party that arrived after us as well, those tables are reserved for larger groups. So, keep that in mind if you're looking for waterside dining. We were seated next to the door, and I didn't notice until halfway through the meal that my chair was covered in cobwebs. Kind of gross. The floor to the exterior patio was also very dirty. My mom was stomping away at ants. I'd recommend they consider cleaning more outside, especially considering it's the main allure of the restaurant. After being seated, our server greeted us. She was overall friendly albeit a bit slow, and when I asked which Riesling was sweeter (they had two), she didn't know. She asked a manager, who replied that he can't drink on shift. It was a polarity compared to the service the table next to us later received from the bartender, who provided samples to them and was on top of things for them the entire meal. I was mildly jealous, honestly. Without the option to sample, I selected a Riesling at random (the German one), and it was fortunately very good. I also heard the sparkling Moscato was pleasant. We ordered the jumbo pretzel to start, which came with a tasty cheese mixture. I would say that's where the good part ended for me. My mom didn't want our salads to arrive with the pretzel, so she asked for them to be spaced out, but then it took aaaaages for the salads to come out. The cheese on the ceasar was good, but that's about it. I couldn't taste any dressing, so I left most of it behind. I was torn in between the mahi and red snapper entrees, but ultimately chose the red snapper despite the server calling it fishy. I asked for extra sauce when I ordered it, but it came with regular sauce, so I asked again. It took some time to arrive as the kitchen had to heat it up, but when it did arrive, it was a TINY amount. I was so perplexed. The fish itself was not that great. It didn't taste fresh to me. My mom ordered the ribs, as they were explained to be really good and "fall off the bone." Can attest they were not. They were actually very fatty. They never should've left the kitchen. I relayed this feedback to our server, and she took both of our meals off the bill since we didn't eat them. I was shocked but thought that was very kind of her. I'd say this spot needs some more quality control between food and cleanliness. I'm unlikely to return personally, but it's worth a shot if you're in town and interested in waterfront dining or a nice glass of wine, I suppose.

I've eaten there many times for dinner, and have always had a good experience with the food and service. This was my first brunch experience. That being said, I'd like to offer a few recommendations to the management to make our next visit an even better one. 1. If you offer reservations, please try to seat your guests as close to their reservation time as possible, especially if it's a large group. I realize it was busy, but our wait, with a reservation, was terribly long. 2. Have a place ready for your guests to be seated. After waiting so long, we ended up making the executive decision to push three tables together, two of which were dirty and needed to be bused, so that we could finally be seated. That is unacceptable. 3. Have more than one server to serve a group of that size. Two would be efficient. 4. Encourage your wait staff to be courteous at all times, and pretend to be happy to give the best service possible, even if they aren't. It was not our fault that the restaurant seemed to be understaffed, the server overwhelmed, or that the orders were mixed up. Our server did not bother to hide her irritation. 5. Never make your patrons wait more than an hour to receive their food. That too is unacceptable. 6. Encourage your server to check in with their guests after they've been served. Someone could possibly need a refill, extra napkins or may even be ready for the check. I look forward to a better experience the next time I visit, whether it be with a few or many.

Lovely decorations and definitely has a 50s feel to it. I got the bacon jalapeno burger omelette, fries and 2 slices of toast are included. The omelette was delicious and chock full of toppings, my only possible complaint would be that the cheese coverage didn't reach the far end. However, that can probably be specified beforehand and its not enough to knock of a star. Regardless of this, I loved it. The bacon and burger were full of flavor and the grilled jalapenos had just the right amount of spice. The grilled onions on top were a great touch. When you're done with your omelette and there's leftover toppings on the plate, you can use fries to sort of scoop them up (awesome). The service was also great. The waitress was talking to regulars, and even asked us what we were up to today. Food came out pretty quick and she asked us if we wanted refills the moment our cups were low. Overall, nice little place. Forgot to get a picture of the food because I was so focused on eating. If I ever come back through the area between the operating hours of 8 and 2 I will certainly be going here. If I happened to pass through after they closed I would probably break in for the pie. This is a must-visit for diner enthusiasts. The building sits on the north-south main thoroughfare…read morethrough historic downtown Farmville, an area once lined with tobacco warehouses. It is very small, with about fifteen stools wrapping around a classic service counter. According to the menu, the diner is a "One-Master Model 15-Stool Valentine steel building," made by Valentine Manufacturing Company of Wichita, Kansas, in 1955. They have a small parking lot in back of the diner. I parked there and then saw a bathroom entrance sign -- after a 2 1/2-hour trip, nature was calling. It is a very clean bathroom located at the rear of the building, with a separate entrance from the parking lot. There is no access to the restroom from inside the diner -- a unique and nostalgic feature you don't see much anymore. I walked around to the front of the building, entered, sat down on a stool, and was greeted with, "Y'all having a good day so far?" I had a half sweet/half unsweet tea and the Cheeseburger Deluxe with no mayonnaise. It came with lettuce, tomato, pickle chips, onions, French fries, and cole slaw. I put ketchup on the fries, but the fresh tomato alone provided plenty of flavor for the juicy, delicious burger. The French fries were crispy and delicious -- exactly what you hope for at a classic diner. The cole slaw was outstanding and clearly tasted homemade. The pies looked incredible, and because the cheeseburger platter was so good, I had a piece of blueberry buttermilk cake topped with whipped cream -- wow! There is also a clearly posted 3% surcharge if paying with a credit card. Prices are reasonable, so it didn't feel like an issue. This was a great overall experience, and I would recommend this classic, nostalgic mid-20th-century diner to anyone traveling through Farmville. It closes at 2 pm, so plan accordingly!
