The modern interior attracts a mixture of both young and old(er), with its location, near Colmore Row, encouraging business men and women to head down to Utopia after a hard's day work. The drinks are fairly priced, alongside some interesting meal deals, including a 2 4 1 deal on all main courses, which allows you to get the cheapest meal for free. The lively yet contemporary setting makes Utopia definitely worth a visit, whether it be with friends, family, clients or work colleagues, I would definitely recommend.

She pretty much growled at us! My friend and I were looking to order dinner during the week but before we had even sat down we felt like we wanted to leave. After going up to the bar to get a few napkins ourselves, we ordered a couple of glasses of vino. The atmosphere was pretty frosty after that point so we decided to go else where to dine and buy a full bottle of wine. Overall, the venue looked nice but it was just a shame the particular member of staff was not pleasant as it ruined our evening and we won't be going back again.

Many of the old features of the building have been preserved, whilst the big glass doors give it a modern twist. It has a bar and a restaurant area inside, but during quiet periods you are allowed to take your drinks into the seating are (normally reserved for diners) and enjoy the generously sized booths. Your lowest priced bottle of wine is £18.95 and a pint will set you back just shy of £4 (so it's not cheap). I must confess, I've never eaten here; but the menu is reasonably priced with most mains being priced between £10 - £15 (steak is a little more, as you would expect). It normally has a couple of ales on tap (I partook of a pint of the Hereford Pale Ale last night which was most pleasant), but the wine list and bar choices are very varied. It seems to attract an eclectic crowd, but mostly locals in the week. On the weekend it can get very busy (so best to book if you wish to eat). If you haven't been before, I would give it a go; it really is a beautiful well kept space.

I hadn't asked for this to happen. When I made the booking I specified an allergy to cheese, melted or otherwise on my meal. I can't have cheese. I told the waitress this when placing the order to emphasise the point. I'd had a similar experience elsewhere, where I was presented with cauliflower cheese on my plate, but that was my fault as I didn't mention the allergy. This time I was pretty emphatic. I find that if I forget to mention it then it comes on something I'm least expecting. So, even if I look an idiot for saying it, for food that shouldn't have cheese, I still say. So, my fillet steak (£28) came out with the lettuce covered with Parmesan shavings. It was sent back. Then later it was taken off the bill as a gesture. The steak was lovely, but the person insisted. Good customer service move. However, what if my allergy had been more serious and the ingredient had not been as obvious, for example, peanut allergy or lactose allergy. A lad died in Italy recently because of the latter. A cautionary story. Please be aware. Service was a bit hit and miss. Experience staff know to look at tables, so that the customer can catch their eye. I found this a bit lacking on this visit. Added to which a person presented us with our starters, but failed to realise that we didn't have any knives and forks. We had to wait until I could catch their eye. Similarly, it was easier to go to the bar to ask for the glass of red to go with my steak than get the attention of the waiting staff. As I said at the beginning I like The Brook Inn, and I will return.

It was a lively crowd that was in full conspicuous consumption. One would expect a long wait for the food. Not so! So you like Fish & Chips? At £5.75 the portions were generous and fresh tasting. But that's not all. For the Ultimate Fish & Chips try adding cheese and bacon (+80p) on the chips. The only downside -- that is endemic with most UK pubs -- is those infernal condiment packages. My suggestion is that you pick up your favorite chili sauce to spice everything up. The special moment was watching an elderly couple lovingly share a monster sundae in the fracas. The food took about 20 mins to come out but I found my steak was cooked throughly whereas I asked for it to be cooked medium rare.
