Small (16 spaces) and clean with cement pads. Each spot has full RV hook-ups and 20 or 50 amp electrical service. There is a private archery club along with a children's playground and a horse shoe pit. They have showers (pay for hot water, bring quarters) and bathrooms. There is virtually no cell service, it seemed to work sometimes and also no WiFi available. A very chill and quiet campground. A few other minor considerations-- no gathering of fallen wood for campfires and they are anti-drone (they shut down the guy who was flying one next to our spot). Very nice. This place is all online... to cancel it takes a while to get through. They take two days and give you the rest of your reservation but it takes up to two weeks to clear. First of all, you feel like you're camping in the desert. I know, you are, but damn. The lack of shade is real. They have coin operated showers, a quarter for 3 minutes. Good for water conservation and people with short hair but just bring another quarter with you, just in case you run out of time with conditioner still in your hair... One of the nights I spent here there was a ginormous camper in the next site with a large TV screen outside and a group of people gathered to watch the game. Talk about taking you out of the experience. The cost was about $32 per day with RV hookups and water at your site. It appears to be well maintained and it is a good way to get out of civilization and into some nature. I actually prefer Oak Park to here. Close to town and to the library if you need some beer or some wifi. read more

Our fifth visit and our last. We are thinking that there is no budget to maintain the park. Overgrown bushes, no host, no sites that are marked that they are occupied, no whiteboard that lists occupants in the park that use to be the case. The hiking here started off as very gorgeous and a great workout! We ended up getting off the loop trail onto another trail and came across a bunch of oil waste, then had to turn around once the trail ended at gated stairs. Really cute spot we stumbled onto! This was a random stop in search of a clean restroom (which we found). When we stopped in, there was a nice little family reunion in the reserved area. They were probably the only people in the entire park, which makes it an incredibly cool idea for a low budget/major ambiance event. There are campsites with some hook-ups that I think go for about $30 per site. With some planning, a group could reserve the majority, if not all, of the sites. It will probably need a 14 day advance reservation. What I really loved the most was that it had a nice rustic feel, as if you were out in the middle of nowhere, yet you're not really camping out in the wilderness, so it's an easy drive to a local store or coffeehouse to pick up some forgotten supplies. There is a train that passes by at all hours, so be aware, if that's something that bothers you... I choose to think it just adds to the 'charm'. FYI: This is not to be confused with Rancho Tapo Community Park, which is in Simi Valley on Avenida Simi...they have playground with water spray play...but no camping, and much more foot traffic. read more

I visited Tapo Canyon Park recently and was impressed. First of all, it's amazing that a place which feels this remote is literally right on the outskirts of Simi Valley. Once you're here, it's as if civilization vanishes, even though it's just down the street. Another great thing about this campground are showers and hookups. Those little luxuries are nice for those of us who are used to basic camping with few amenities. While there's not a lot of shade directly over the campsites, there are a few nice mature trees around the park, which BTW features an excellent fully paved loop and perfectly level pads. You can pitch tents here, but it's the ideal spot for RV's, campers and trailers. Adjacent to the campground is a really nice green park, hiking trails, playground and huge open space with facilities for scouting, birthdays, picnics - you name it. Great facility for families and kids. This facility is very quiet at night. The most noise you'll hear is coyote song, crickets and perhaps the laughter of your camping neighbors. And being a short distance from Simi proper, food, drink and supplies are just a short drive away. The camp host is extremely experienced, helpful and friendly as well. I highly recommend Tapo Canyon Park, especially as a great local getaway with your family and RV. read more

This park is absolutely delightful. I grew up in Simi Valley, however, it has been years since I have lived there, so to find a wonderful RV park tucked away in Tapo Canyon was a fantastic surprise! When you are at the park, it feels as though you are far from civilization, but within a few minutes drive, you are right back into town with all the shops, restaurants, etc, that you may need or want. The park itself has a lot to offer: a nice and clean playground, a lovely pavilion area with BBQ, an archery range (you can even get a lesson on Saturday's for $5 that includes equipment and instructions), a clean bathroom, and nice hiking trails. The RV park, which has 16 paved and level sites with full hookups, is very nice and clean. The sites all have nice metal picnic tables and fire pits (although due to the high fire danger, no fires were allowed while we were there). The best part of the RV park for us though, was the wonderful campground hosts! That really does make quite the difference. When we arrived, we were immediately met by the campground host Angela who was incredibly friendly and helpful. She directed us to our site and could not have given us a more welcoming attitude along with some very useful information (i.e. "we have lots of ants so spray around your tires and jacks", "we have had many coyote sitings so be aware and walk with a flashlight at night", etc.). In addition to our initial meeting, Angela was always available to answer questions or just to say a friendly hello during our week long stay. We saw Angela and her husband working around the park and assisting other campers every day. This park is very clean and well maintained based, clearly, on the hard work of the hosts! We also saw park rangers on a daily basis patrolling and were also very friendly. Thank you Angela for helping to make our stay at Tapo Canyon wonderful! read more

This review is for the camp hosts only (not the park) and long overdue. They let their dog roam free without a leash and it attacked several dogs including my own but they continue to let this happen. She trespassed on my site multiple times and does not fairly enforce rules. We are a quiet middle aged couple and we've never felt so uncomfortable and harassed at a campsite before. Upper management needs to be aware of these situations and address them appropriately. read more

I am writing this review just to correct Joyce L. Perhaps she is thinking of the campground on the west end of Simi, Oak Park which IS next to the train tracks. Tapo Canyon Park is north of the tracks in the foothills. I doubt you can hear the train from the campground. I used to live in Simi and just moved 10 years ago. We have never stayed at Tapo Canyon RV Park, but have visited friends while they were staying in the campground. We have plans to stay there this summer while visiting friends in Simi. read more

Although there is not much at the park, it does offer peace, solitude, a place to cook a nice meal, and a playground for the children. What I do not like is the Management during their off season. I took my Grandson there and we were playing on the slide/rock-climber, and then just walking him around. I was telling him about the trees and how old they are, I took him to the hill and showed him the rocks and the trail that went up the hill. Then as I walked him over to the cookout pits, that were chained up so as not to be used, a woman came up to me and said "that is not a toy for little boys to play with", WHAT, why are you even addressing my Grandson, I told her I was showing him what this is and how it is used, you know how a teacher would explain something. She said this is a rental area?? Hello, this is out of season and it's all locked up, why are you bothering us. I'm teaching him things!! "Are You Gonna Go There With Me? I'm the manager here" Unbelievable Just don't go there during the winter months, anytime after October and the Summer people are very polite and not demanding about anything!!! That Lady was rude to my Grandson, he even told me,,,,mean G-Pa,,,,she Mean!!!! Plus I paid two dollars for 15 min!!! read more

Read a couple of reviews on this park. Decided to unhook the dinghy & drive up for a quick look for future reference before heading on to our very high priced coastal one night destination located right next to a freeway. For half the price & no traffic noise . . . We went back & got the motorhome. What a truly great find. Concrete pads are probably only 10-12' wide, so, with slide-outs deployed, you'll likely be walking in the dirt. Precautions must be taken to avoid tracking it in. Evidence of past water coursing thru the lower sites where we were, but this is a picturesque semi arid canyon. Most sites would have provided roof mounted satellite TV clearance. Great shopping & lots of food options located at the off ramp where you exit and the next. Speaking of the off ramp, the campground- not an RV park - is located straight up the road from the off ramp. Easy coming & going! While we only stayed one night this trip, we're already planning for an extended stay in the very near future. read more

The park is nice, the amenities are good and well maintained. HOWEVER, our last experience with the camp host(s) was ... surreal, and is the reason we will not return. My wife runs a scout troop (girls), and Tapo was a go-to location (twice a year over multiple years). Never again. Truly, NEVER AGAIN! I'm writing this, instead of her, because my wife is content to move on and just schedule future events at any of the OTHER county, state or private parks the troop has frequented without issue. But I think our experience(s) should be considered if you're booking a youth-group trip to Tapo. Here are a couple examples. The evening we arrived, Ed greeted us as usual and asked if we'd like the BBQ pit unlocked since we had reserved the covered area with BBQ pit for the whole next day. Everything seemed normal, but a little later, Tammy came by and dressed down our leaders in front of the girls because the pit wasn't "ours" until the next morning. In fact, she said none of our stuff could be touching the concrete. Okay. That's new, but she insisted it had always been this way. Whatever, fine ... back to camping, we thought. In the past, we were allowed to have a portable, self-contained little fire ring (the kind with feet that keeps the fire off the ground) on the asphalt parking lot immediately adjacent to our site. Not this time. No campfires at all! Charcoal only. Okay. But I couldn't help but notice other campers around the park were allowed to have camp fires and were even provided firewood by the hosts in at least one case. (I personally saw Ed carrying over wood to a site with a campfire going). Throughout the trip, there were numerous (8-10 visits on Saturday alone), terse visits sometimes halting the girl's events --- like skits around the lantern (since we were denied use of our little fire ring we were doing the skits in the covered area). It was at this time Tammy thought it best to come by and "remind" us we had to be cleared out of the covered area by 7:00pm, even though we were authorized to use it for breakfast the next morning. She shut down our event right there in front of the girls and parents with a very public and prolonged rebuke of the troop leader (my wife). At issue this time was her/our error in assuming our approved use of the area the next morning meant we could leave coolers and supplies on the cement over night as in the past. Apparently we were supposed to realize we were expected to completely clear out by 7:00pm and leave nothing 'touching the concrete', and only use the tables to eat at the next morning, bringing no supplies relating to breakfast back into that area. The obviousness of this requirement had evaded all the adult leaders/parents, which I'll admit was a little comforting since the forcefulness from the hosts was enough to make you think, "Surely I must have missed something, maybe I'm just an idiot." Never-the-less, we shut down and rushed to get the area cleared out in the required 15 minutes before 7:00. These are just a few examples of many. If it wasn't so weird, tense and frankly bizarre, it might have seemed comical; as in, "OK, where's the hidden camera?" Everyone was shocked, but not too shocked because it was completely in keeping with our experiences the whole weekend. It was just one thing after another and always something of a surprise to find out in what new way we were supposedly violating camp policy. We'd never had ANY issues at Tapo before, but something has changed, and it was not OUR behavior. We've heard from other troops that report similar treatment, so it's not just us. Yet I see other Yelp reviews of individual campers that seem to reflect the welcoming and kind treatment we used to know. Hope everyone else has a great visit to this otherwise nice little park. read more
