Chumash Park abuts a small neighborhood and the Santa Monica Mountain conservancy. A small, passive park, it is unique from the other parks in Simi in that it has remained untouched, and allows visitors to enjoy what raw nature provides for activities and exercise - primarily hiking.
This is not your green grass, playground park. If you come here, come expecting dirt and brush, minimal shade and heat. There are no facilities, so come prepared. And be prepared for nature, as you may encounter it in various forms including (but not limited to) gophers, rats, possums, bunnies, snakes, tarantulas, raccoons, cayotes, mountain lions and bears (oh my!).
Sounds harsh? It is; but mother nature is a witch and unforgiving here.
Note that parking is on the neighborhood streets, so be considerate of the residents (both two and four-legged). read more
