This was my first time here after it was recommended by a friend. While it wasn't like the typical massage experience I have had previously, it was by far the best! To start with, there are a collection of tables in a large, dimly-lit room. You remain clothed besides your shoes, socks, accessories, etc. There were other people getting massages at the same time, but it didn't take away from the experience at all. Such as most reflexology places, you get massaged fully clothed and in a large room with everyone else. My masseuse asked me what type of pressure was preferred, made sure I was comfortable. I have been coming here for years, its a great way to relax and improve blood circulation in your legs and mind. I can barely walk out of there when done My legs and feet feel great after. I love this place! I get tension migraines and no matter who you go to there, they tailor to what you need regarding pressure, are very professional, and just do an amazing job. I need deep tissue to resolve my pain and they for sure deliver! I would recommend this to anyone needing either relaxation (lighter Swedish style) OR if you're in severe pain, needing deep tissue and worked over. The price is also very reasonable and I can usually book same day. I do recommend calling ahead to get an appointment so you're not waiting. Also wear comfortable clothes, as you are in a dark room with other people. But I promise it is not intrusive and it won't impact your relaxation. Tonight I went to Tao Reflexology for a foot massage. My friend gave me a gift card for my birthday. She had purchased the 30 minutes massage for $20 (before their price increase). Now it's $25 for 30 minutes. I gave the cashier my $20 gift card and a tip for the woman. He refused to honor the $20 gift card and showed me their chart with the new price had me give him the additional $5 for the increase. I will never go back there again because of this. I had a great experience here! My mom & I made appointments for 10AM last Sunday (the perfect time to go) and we both thoroughly enjoyed our time. The space was clean and quiet. We got the Combo I (35 min foot + 35 min neck/shoulder/back) for $48. It was SO worth the price! We started with a foot soak, then the foot massage/reflexology, then moved onto the upper body at the end. We even got a hot stone rub on our feet as well. It was one of the most relaxing massages I've had. I will also add that I'm 5 months pregnant and they were happy to accommodate me. I got an extra pillow behind my back for the foot rub, and they raised the back of the massage bed so I was elevated. I felt very taken care of and will definitely return! read more

I have no idea who rubbed me down because I was basically blindfolded or face down for the duration. And maybe Brittany should have tipped me off on the buttocks/thigh massaging, but whatever. Finally, was not prepared for the aggressive whispering of "FINISHED" directly into my ear to let me know my time of over-the-clothing rub down was over. Terrible customer service! Prices continue to rise! I have visited this place quite often. It WAS a nice mini-massage that I could do right before bed as they always had walk-in times and were so close to my house. I went so frequently that I used their loyalty card. I have visited their other location in Shawnee as well. I had 4 stamps from them. The Leawood location continued to stamp the same card. I was on my last one before my free massage (4-5 stamps from Leawood and 4 from Shawnee). The lady at Leawood then decided she would no longer accept the Shawnee stamps. Funny how she had no issue until I was ready for a free one. That is just TERRIBLE customer service. I have not been back and I have quit referring any friends or family. ALSO! Their prices just continue to increase. The point of this place is it was a mini-massage and the price should reflect that. Why would I go here paying the same price as a normal spa?! NOPE! On impulse I stopped here to see if they could handle a walk in. A reflexology session sounded heavenly. From the parking lot, I looked at the website and saw online scheduling with instant confirmation. I used it to schedule a reflexology session and the current time was available. The person that greeted me told me I should not have scheduled it online; I should have called. She asked me to sit and that's when I noticed a sign that patrons were expected to tip in cash only. I wasn't prepared with cash so I decided to reschedule. I told the front desk that I would be leaving and they insisted repeatedly that I cancel online. I always have a good experience and usually get the 35 min foot/ 35 min back reflexology massage (70 min) for $48! Amazing right? Well, today I walked in without an appointment this afternoon and decided to get 45 min foot/45 min back (90 min) for $68. Today my therapist was Bary and he did an amazing job that stood out from the other great massages I have had at this place! If you like massage at all you should most definitely try this place out! This is not your traditional massage place where you undress to your comfort level and you are in a private room with you and your massage therapist. (Your 90 min massage at a place like this will cost closer to $200!) If that is what you are looking for and really important to you then this is not the place for you! On the other hand, if you have wanted to try massage and have never tried it because you are uncomfortable undressing then you should try this place. I must explain that this is a no frills place. It is basically one large room with several massage tables with the lights down and spa music playing. You do not get undressed at all. Because of this, you will hear people as they come in the door and some people are louder than others. You may also hear the receptionist take a call or someone's cell phone go off. I am able to look past all of that because for $68 I am getting a 90 min massage that is better than any I have had at a fancy resort spa! read more

I shouldn't pay a supposed professional to beat me and cause pain. The 1st half was fine and rather relaxing, but when I got to the added on 10 buck extra back massage, which I now regret. The bullpen style layout makes it hard to relax because it is not quiet. The worst of the noise is the older employee who is always coughing and spitting up throat phlegm. Gave this place a shot this past Wednesday which I usually go to Imperial Foot down in Westport. A friend told me about their Groupon which we decided to try them out. Located in Town Center Plaza so it wasn't hard to find since I'm familiar with the area. The receptionist was very nice & helpful. She mentioned that our Groupon didn't include a back massage so we can get it for an additional $10. Usually I would've said "no thanks" but my back was in pain. I already paid $28 for the massage & that's with the 20% off (originally $35) so it came to $38. Thinking to myself at the time, I get all this at my usually spot for the cost of $28 cash without any Groupon discount. Anyways, the masseuse was good but a little more gentle & it didn't seem like she tried to get my knots out. Not sure if it's something they have to do or not but I know my usual spot does it for me. When they feel it they work on it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bad mouthing this location but it's not for me. I most likely won't return & will go to my usual spot. The decor was nice & inviting however the bright light shining through the door didn't make it too relaxing. Even though they put a towel over my eyes, it would've been nice if I didn't need it. My overall experience wasn't bad. Everybody needs to try a place for themselves since our preferences could be different. read more

Tao Reflexology LEAWOOD location lost my business forever today! The GM refused to accepted a gift card my husband gave me for Mother's Day because they've changed ownership. I even spoke to him on the phone after my service and he was adamant that even though the Leawood location benefitted from the $100 purchase originally, I still was told I had to pay the $60 for my massage. Both locations are listed with both addresses on the gift card. Businesses that refuse to listen to their customers, won't be open very long. Looks like I'll drive to mission next time I need reflexology. read more

Was having pain and could not get fit in to see my regular massage therapist, so I did a walk in at Tao an hour and half before closing. Chose the 45 min back + 45 foot special for $68. Was immediately sat down with a short foot soak. Very clean facility, very quiet and relaxing. Lots of time and attention paid, felt like I had gotten a full body massage. I would have preferred more pressure, but felt great afterwards. I think it is a great value. I am sold on reflexology. read more

I had been here a few years ago and I remember it was a nice massage and the guy seemed to be very experienced. So I took my husband today, we both had terrible experiences. First off, the foot bath is a trash bag inside of a trash can with lukewarm water. My feet barely fit in, let alone my husbands feet were completely squished and they expect you to lay down while your in that position. Secondly, the lady that rubbed me felt very rushed and heavy handed. Many times it felt like she was punching on my bones. My feet felt like they got rug burnt because of the repetitive motions rather than actually massaging. Third, after I was finished my husband told me his experience wasn't any better. The guy did everything the opposite. He was aggressive with the face massage, pulling his ears to the point it felt like they would rip off. Instead of massaging the leg muscles, he was smearing the feet and calves for at least 3o min, alternating between adding oil and wiping the oil off using a towel. Fourth, they probably miscalculated the times because they massaged our backs for less than 5 mins before they were finished. Fifth, we told the lady in the front, she gave me 5 $ off coupon and said: "this is acupressure massage, next time go to someone else". Lastly, I now have bruises on my legs. read more

I love this place I go once monthly. Mask are required during your entire service. The atmosphere is very relaxing, dark and quiet . They cover your eyes with a towel to add another step of relaxation. I think it's good to keep this in mind before booking a appointment. I didn't have a problem with this I think it's great to take extra steps to protect customers and employees. The price is very affordable as well . A well spent 60-mins and $35 +tip. I made an appointment over the phone. I parked directly in front of the store. At first I thought it was close because it was completely dark. Not like there's tint dark but lights out closed dark. I happened to see someone walk pass the door and then realized the lobby is dark too. Quickly checked me in and showed me to my table. I thought it was just going to be a foot massage but t was a full body massage. It was great! It was hard to hear what they were saying because everything was said in a whisper. Each time I have gone it has been very relaxing and the staff has been nice and courteous - although there is little to no communication between you and the reflexologist. I am a female so I personally prefer to have female masseuse to touch me. Today was my first time, and I had Lisa from Northeastern of China. I was really lucky because the north-easterners of China grew up eating lots of flour, and they are so good at kneading the flour dough with hands, so their arms are really strong and powerful. However, since I am an Asian, even though I am an athlete type (5'4", 140Lb), my muscle mass and muscle tension probably can't really compare with the tall and strong westerners' type muscle. So please read my feedback with discreet since massaging me probably doesn't require much strength when comparing with massaging westerners. Ok, so here is my verdict: Cleanness and hygiene: All towels and environment are clean. Atmosphere is quiet with soothing music . Feet soaking bucket has disposable plastic bag, but not fancy bucket like photo you saw on Yelp. Mine was just a simple plastic bucket , no flowers, but I am okay with it since the price is cheap. I also personally prefer hotter water for feet, but I think for safety concern, they probably can't use too hot water. No store wants to burn their customers' feet. NOTE: this is an open space massage place. You do not need to take off clothes, but Lisa did reach into my back shoulders to massage those tensed muscle nodes. I would suggest you wear super comfortable clothes when going for the service, so they can massage you better. My female masseuse (Lisa): I had 90 minutes service. So I asked 30 min head, 30 min feet, 30 min body (you can tell them where you want to emphasize or how you want to distribute the minutes). Lisa's strength was quite strong for me (or more than I needed, but you can always tell her to reduce the strength if you can't take that much). She worked every minute hard, in detail, and professionally. Due to I can speak Chinese, I was able to communicate with her easily. So for English speakers, if you speak slowly, nicely, and use simple English words, short phrases, or gesture, that might help the communication (if not, their manager speaks English/Chinese anyway, or use Google Translate app on your smart phones). Lisa was considerate and care for my dignity when I am massaged. I am always covered with extra towel and kept warm. If you feel cold, ask for extra towel, they will get you another one. Few tips: The store accept credit card, but I will suggest you to preparer extra cash for tips (I mean, seriously, when we were waitress, who doesn't like cash tips?). If you like the masseuse you have, ask their name, their less busy time, and next time, make appointment with the one you like. I gave my cash tips directly to Lisa right after I got up from the bed. I tipped her well because I want another good massage NEXT time! If you did enjoy a good quality service, don't tip your masseuse stingily. I've spent hundreds of dollars on massages that weren't as good as this. Jerry did a great job, not too soft, not too hard. From the outside, I wasn't sure what to expect. It's a room full of low beds, you keep your clothes on, & they lay a towel over you to do the back massage. The foot massage started with a warm-water soak, and ended with hot stones. I signed up with a groupon and decided to gift a friend a session too. We got the 45 min reflexology with 15 min soak. I booked an appointment the day before for us both. We arrived to hear that they weren't ready for us and we needed to wait 20 minutes. Once we got on the tables and I was soaking and had the towel over my eyes the front desk lady came over to try and upsell me a longer massage. I told her no as we were already running short on time. The massage started ok, with a focus on arms. I noticed that there were lots of breaks where my body wasnt being worked on, At one point they left for warm towels but the session didnt have the continuity I was used to at other reflexology places. I didnt receive much of any foot reflexology, no head massage or reflexology, My friend also mentioned that it felt less like acupressure and reflexology and more like a standard massage. We both felt our people did some questionable things with our spine. Lifting and pulling and my gal actually maneuvered me in such a way that a far less flexible person could have been hurt, even for me it was not good. ( feet together over my body pushing down towards spine) The session ended early and we both felt ripped off. I mentioned it upon exiting and they apologized and offered me $5 off coupons. They did say we both got new people. Im used to Imperial foot spa. They soak your feet and work on your entire the entire time. They do a full head massage and ears, you leave feeling your whole body got work. Acuppressure is supposed to go deep, my session at Tao was not. Both of us will not be returning I will gladly drive the 30 minutes to Westport and go to Imperial, I get a consistently awesome session there. If you do want to give it a go, I'd request an experienced person. read more

UPDATE on 7/15/17 (the next day):My spine near the shoulder area gradually started to feel sore last night, I was hoping to sleep it off, but waking up this morning, it was still very sore. This was the area that the masseuse was really digging in yesterday. It is the shoulder area near the spine/neck so I was surprised that she was digging so hard in that area--a lot of delicate nerves are located in the area. I was face down so I couldn't speak up, but I kept waving my hand trying to tell her "NO" and go lighter. She stopped for a second, and I thought she understood me. However she went to the other side and did the exact same thing. It was only a minute or so, so I thought I should "endure" it and just get it over with. BAD decision. Now I'm in pain and I'm really hoping it's nothing related to nerve damage. Downgrade to one star. While the environment is new and clean, I didn't enjoy my experience because there was no communication between the masseuse and I. She did not once ask how was the pressure. The place was very quiet and many people were getting massaged in the same big room, so I didn't feel comfortable to keep speaking up to adjust the pressure for I didn't want to disturb others. I think it's common sense that different parts of the body respond differently to pressure based on if that part is mainly bone or muscle. However, the part where I had more muscles (calves, feet, arms) got almost no pressure, while the part where is mostly my bones (spine, waist) got more pressure than I could almost bear. I felt like my bones were going to break. I believe it's general practice for the masseuse to check the pressure with you a few minutes into the massage. Am I wrong? Base on their lack of professionalism, unfortunately, I will have to give them only two stars. read more

I am completely blown away. This place is amazing. I made my reservations online and it was very easy, I only wish you could book more than one at a time. I had to do three separate transactions for myself and my family members going. Other than that no issues. Once you arrive you just punch in your email address and they walk you back. It is pretty dark and it is one large room with massage type beds all lined up. I was a little worried it wouldn't be peaceful but it was so peaceful I half expected someone to start snoring. You remove your shoes and roll up your pant legs. They bring a warm bowl of water to soak your feet then proceed to cover you with a light sheet/towel as well as one over your eyes. Then they rub out your arms a bit before starting your feet. After they rub your legs out and push gently. They do your hips and pretty close to your pelvic area. That did not bother me or feel intrusive but just so you are aware they do not just focus on your feet. I felt like the business was very clean and the staff was incredibly friendly. English is spoken a little but not well so if you have questions research online or ask the Yelp community. You can add on shoulder and head rubs and I will certainly be doing that next time.
