Flavor was good, but I don't particularly care for quarter size chunks of vegetables. They give you a couple of french fries along with rice on the rectangular plate. The silverware is flimsy and I wish it had been more sturdy. The place looks like they might have just moved in because there is not a lot of decoration on the walls. Not sure if I'd want go back.

I was surprised when I went in that there were only a couple of customers leaving as I entered. I was greeted by Dewey at the counter who asked me if I have previously tried any Peruvian food and I answered I had not. He was kind and suggested a couple of his favorites to me which was very helpful and appreciated. I ordered the Lomo Saltado and a Mexican Coke. They had several photos underneath the entrees which was helpful for ordering and visualizing. I decided to sit at a bar stool which had a counter seat at the front window overlooking Main Street which was an interesting vantage point while eating. The food was served fairly quickly and the Lomo Saltado was delicious. The beef was very tasty and served with vegetables and rice and the flavors and spices were just right for my taste. I devoured this dish quickly, ate everything, and mentioned to Dewey that I didn't like that at all with a big smile and laugh as I was dropping off my spotless dirty dishes even though he mentioned I could just leave it. It was a nice surprise.

The Culantro Bowl is a great deal, the ají de gallina is great comfort food, and I really love the lomo saltado. I also always get either the jugo de maracuyá or chicha morada to drink. The ceviche was good, though the texture wasn't my favorite personally. I also wasn't a fan of the empanadas since they were sweeter than I'm used to. However, the plantains starter was quite good. The atmosphere is modern, clean, and comfortable, and the service has always been excellent. One of the main servers even remembers my name because I've been coming for so long. Overall, it's not the best Peruvian food I've ever had, but it gives me a nostalgic taste of Peru in Ann Arbor and has definitely become a staple for me. I'd also love to see papa a la huancaína added to the menu someday.

I sat outside on the covered patio and was immediately welcomed by Cardyn, who was absolutely exceptional throughout the evening. I started with the Hibiscus Lemon Mezgarita, an unusual take on a margarita made with mezcal, lemon, agave-hibiscus syrup, and orange bitters. I love a good margarita, and this was one I was very glad I chose. Next came the homemade tortilla chips and Salsa Roja. The chips were fresh, warm, and had just the right amount of salt, while the salsa was blended exactly the way I like it--not overly chunky, but not so smooth that the individual flavors disappeared. For my main course, I had the Braised Lamb Tacos, and they were wonderful. The lamb was incredibly flavorful and practically melted in my mouth, while the other ingredients each added something without overpowering one another. Between the food, the atmosphere, and exceptional service, Roca was the perfect ending to a busy day. I'm not entirely sure whether I chose Roca or Roca chose me, but either way, I'm very glad I ended up there. Five stars and a restaurant I would happily visit again.
