This is a true Chinese place - it's pretty authentic. We got a bunch of different things from the menu but really loved the lo mein& the dumplings. Ambiance was good, nothing standout but met the vibes. Overall I'd come back here

A budget Chinese food place located near MSU campus. Funny the restaurant was named "Hong Kong"…read morebecause the theme of the cuisine is definitely Szechuan/Sichuan, quite different from the Cantonese style cuisine of Hong Kong, while the actual dishes tasted like Szechuan cuisine with reduced hotness and a bit more Cantonese details. Spicy cold plate chicken: very tender chicken slices with not too hot sauces. Could use a bit more sesame. Fish slices with preserved vegetable soup broth: Soup broth was rich with savory and sour taste of vegetables. Fish slices were a bit too thick and slightly mushy; might want to switch to another type of fish with firmer texture. Nevertheless, this dish is a bargain as it contains both a protein and a broth base (also with some rice noodles). Szechuan-style eggplants: standard. Sauce was too thick for my taste. Stir-fried spicy string beans: standard, very generous portion of minced pork and garlic adds a lot of flavor

Did they expect us to use the serving platters? They didn't clear our appetizer and soup plates when we were finished. The used dishes just sat on the table while we ate our main meals. I found out they had just reopened recently after taking some time for a vacation but it seems that their fortune cookie stock hasn't been replenished as the two cookies we received were both very stale and almost tasty rancid. This won't stop me from going there in the future but I thought they need to step up their service a bit.

And they had Sichuan dishes plus the "American" Chinese dishes you'd expect. I see they also do dim sum but we didn't try that. They have a ton of vegetarian options! The server told us that they have been open since about 2011 and they used to only have traditional Sichuan food. Their primary customer base was international students who wanted authentic Chinese food like they had at home. But after Covid there were few international students from China in town and their business was struggling, so they expanded the menu to appeal to American tastes. As a result, the menu is huge!
