SOOOOOOOO good. They do charge a bit much for guacamole on the side and the container is the size of a side order of salad dressing, but other than the prices this place is pretty good. It's alright. Most days, it's good, but sometimes you get one that's not so good. The staff is nice and fast, but they have had temporary guys who give me the creep look. During high school, my friends and I would go to TM and I have friends near Anna's so I think I'm a good judge. Anna's is still on my list, but if I really want a burrito at that very moment, I'll go to Tango Mango. For the price, I can't complain(though they did jack up prices and downsized portions). A couple of my colleagues have been talking this place up for a while and we finally went there for a work lunch today. I was skeptical due to the poor overall ratings the restaurant has received on Yelp, but my concerns were put to rest very quickly. The food is delicious and cheap and the service is quick. I had a large carnitas (pork) burrito and I left full and happy. We ordered some chips and guac and salsa to share as well. I thought the salsa was delicious - it has just the right hint of lime - however, it is a little watery. The guac was just right and I think it had the perfect mix of flavors. I live nearby and eat at Tango Mango several times a week. The food is always fresh and they use quality meats/vegetables which make for excellent burritos! The place is kept very clean and the owner is usually there overseeing the operations and ensuring her customers are happy with the food and service they receive. My favorite is the whole wheat burritos with spicy chicken and black beans plus all the other good stuff. You can build your burrito with whatever ingredients you like so it is also great for someone that might be dieting because you can pick whatever you want. The price is very reasonable, you pay a few dollars for a basic burrito but if you add a lot of extras it will cost a little bit more. This makes sense and for the quality and quantity of food you are getting I don't think there is a better deal in the area. If you have not tried Tango Mango yet I would highly suggest you stop by sometime for lunch or dinner, they are open until 10pm so its even great for a late night dinner. read more

Located in the heart of Newton Center, Tango Mango is a solid burrito joint with hot salsa and no frills. We went on a Sunday morning during an excursion to the Craft Beer Cellar (conveniently located practically next door), and ordered the Southwest and the Spicy Chicken burritos. It's a walk-up-and-order joint similar to other local burrito places, but the dexterity of the staff blew those others out of the water -- the speed with which the guy made our burritos was positively mesmerizing. After paying and grabbing a seat in the adjoining, brightly-colored dining room, we settled in to examine our meals. Both burritos were of a decent size; my boyfriend ordered a large and I had a regular and neither of us left hungry. We both commented on the sneaky kick within the confines of that perfectly-folded tortilla -- and, having ordered a combo with the word "spicy" in it, I was expecting some solid heat. The chorizo was the culprit in his, and the heat in the salsa verde in mine was no joke! This was a positive, for sure! The only negative that I can cite is that, as in so many other burrito experiences, the filling of mine seemed to slip to the bottom of the wrap, leaving me with a lot of rice up top and a soggy, spice-laden mess to slurp up from the bottom. That kind of goes with the territory, though, so I wouldn't hold that against them! Given its proximity to CBC Newton, the tasty burritos and the decent price, I'm sure we'll be back to Tango Mango in the future! read more

I got the spicy chicken burrito and my wife got the spicy pork burrito (chile verde). I liked it, maybe a bit more cheese and guac and it would've been perfect. Their website says they're open until 9 PM on Sundays, and their voicemail message says they're open until 10 PM on Sundays, but I went there at 8:20 PM on a Sunday and they were locked up and closed with no notice on the doors as to why. I could see the people mopping up the floor and cleaning the grill down... I have visited Tango Mango in the past, for a quick Mexican fix, but their food is nothing to write home about. Tried this place 10 years ago and was unimpressed, then decided to try again because I was in the area and the Google reviews rate it 4.3/5. So I thought "maybe they've improved." No, no they haven't. The menu is basic, and between the uncommunicative, bored looking employees and bare-bones menu, I wasn't sure how I could customize my meal. Like, what ingredients result in an upcharge? I know guacamole does, but does sour cream? Veggies? Salsa?? My quesadilla was completely flavorless and way too oily; no flavor in the rice or beans; not even any flavor in the cheese! I'm not even sure how that is possible. Skip this place, even Chipotle (ick) tastes better. Or even better, go to Moe's in Waltham because they give you *FREE* chips and salsa, are friendly and communicative, and don't upcharge for almost every ingredient. Could be very good because the ingredients are good. They don't steam the burrito shell enough so it's raw and hard. Also, they use the same amount of rice and beans and fixings in the largest burrito as they do the medium sized one. So basically, you just get more shell. I feel the same way about the restaurant known as "Tango Mango." Gaze upon the holy burrito in all its glory. Not one fluid ounce of tortilla is wasted and all metric tons of joy are contained. I fully believe that the owner, Shirley, is responsible for the moon landing as her feats are not tethered by reality's grasps. The nachos put other nachos to shame, like Mike Tyson playing Kindergarten Soccer. The free soda is free and I fucking love freedom. The cornbread breathes hope into a world of despair. I would marry this restaurant if I was legally allowed however Massachusetts is not progressive enough yet. LET LOVERS LOVE! "Doth mother know you weareth her drapes?" No she does not because the only thing your mother can see is the inside of this restaurant. That's right. All mothers of the middlesex community, even those that are men, have sworn in perpetuity to stay inside of this heavenly establishment until Gordon Ramsay himself has praised it for what it is: the best goddamn burrito restaurant in Newton Center. Tango Mango gives me such mixed feelings. I really like their small menu of great quality items (especially the fabulous fajita burrito) but I pretty much only go there when I'm not super hungry. The food, while extremely delicious, is a bit pricey for the portions so be ready to get more than one thing or go for ice cream afterward. The people that work there are wicked nice and I always feel like it's a place I want to go back too. Honestly, since it's like the only non-chain burrito place in Newton you better go! The gentlemen behind me seemed annoyed as I would be too, but after the cook finished his burrito, somehow the cashier couldn't cash him out first because she has to "DO IT IN ORDER" lol NONSENSE, but whatever... So I finally get up to the register, and tell her i'm paying for an item separately, she quickly huffs that she can't do that because she already did it all together. I said well i'm putting and item on my debit card, she continues to say she can't do anything, so I quickly get angry and say well then you will have to take the money I have and ill take my food.... That's when she pulls out her calculator slamming it on the counter furiously subtracting my order from the rest. I then pay for the other items and ask her for a receipt, since I have to give people change. She tells me she can't...hahahaha the story gets better, I say, I can't get a receipt? I am having fun reading all this american guys reviews, just because I am mexican and I can´t understand why they give more importance to the rice instead of the meat, and being honest, it is very hard to find a real mexican restaurant in Massachusetts, Chipotle, Taco Bell and all that kind of restaurants are just horrible jokes of the real meaning of mexican food. First of all, latin people working there, nobody can give you a better service than latin people, kindness, patience, human values before all. The variety of food is awesome, I mean, when you go to a "mexican restaurant" here they sell you "Chicken burrito, beef burrito. pork burrito", here is the only place where you can find "Carnitas, quesadilllas, fajitas". The place seems to be really mexican, with mexican art table covers, and "Jarritos" soda, being there is feeling like being in Mexico.
