faking out the traveling public since 1991! this cable stayed bridge and it's predecessor have been taking people over the Savannah River from Georgia to Georgia for some 65 years!? took a bus tour and learnt that the river which nominally separates Georgia from South Carolina has a couple islands in it in these parts and at least one is big enough to warrant development and access and there goes the neighborhood... Blah blah 1100-feet long and not quite tall enough to permit the next generation of container ships to pass into the harbor; only 185-feet clearance to the water before the oceans rise. Bummer about that but maybe they can dredge the main channel an extra couple dozen feet and put in a parallel lock system to lower the ships for transit as needed?

The Talmadge Memorial Bridge spans the Savannah River between downtown Savannah and Hutchinson Island it was completed in 1991 and although this bridge was built to last 100 years it's doubtful that the Tamadge Bridge will serve the community anywhere close to that. Although the bridge is only 28 years old there is already discussion on replacing it, so there's no sense in spending to much time reviewing this bridge, the replacement is not going to be because of any traffic congestion - or for any safety issues, it's simply because of the Panama Canal. The widening project that was completed in 2016 allows much larger ship to pass through the canal and as you'd expect ship builders have already launch longer, wider and taller ships. At the same time the giant container ships that have been serving the industry for decades are already going to the scrap yards. The older container ships that have been frequenting Savannah are of the Panamax Class so the 185' clearance of the bridge worked fine, the new Neo-Panamax Class of ships exceed 190' in height and these ships will not be able to access the Savannah Harbor, the port is currently undergoing expansion, so the port can accommodate newer, larger vessels but not taller so this bridge stands in the way if the port is to service Neo-Panamax vessels. It seems the port expansion will force the bridge replacement, the next step is to dredge the channel leaving only the bridge in the way to compete for business, the political lobbyist will be busy trying to justify the new taxes to pay for the new bridge, most of the East Coast Ports have actively been making the accommodations require to accept these newer giant vessels. There's no doubt this will happen at some point and justifies the bridge replacement and also presents an opportunity to rename it after someone respectable. As much as I love bridgeworks the name alone and poor planning for the future says one star. Governor Eugene Talmadge served two terms and was elected a third time but fortunately died prior to taking office - historically speaking he was a "tool"...

I remembered the name "Talmadge" from the Watergate Committee. But this bridge isn't named for Herman Talmadge (Georgia Senator 1957 - 1981). It was named for his father, Eugene Talmadge, who was Governor of Georgia in the 30's and 40's. Built in 1991, the very impressive bridge carries four lanes of Route 17 across the Savannah River into downtown Savannah. Stat-wise, the span over the river measures over 1,000 feet at a height of 185 feet. That's plenty of room for the non-stop flotilla of cargo ships to safely enter the river and America's fourth busiest port.

A beautiful bridge with a pretty view, this bridge takes you to Hutchison Island. It's also called 17. We took it to Hilton Head, SC and was able to stop through Blufton, SC! It seems pretty high and I swear I can probably touch the sky. Not really, but I can dream I can!

This is a pretty and unique bridge. It is way to introduce drivers to the beautiful city of Savannah!

They charged us in full for both trips at the time we made the reservation (which is fine). Charges appeared on our credit card, which we paid in full, and we also received two payment confirmation emails from the company. A year later I received two more payment emails for the same amounts from the company. I inquired and was told that an audit showed our card was never charged. I sent them my credit card statement and payment emails. They continued to argue back and forth with me that we were never charged. They kept saying the charges were for the dates in September, but we weren't charged for the October trips. I explained that we only did one trip (to and from the airport) for which I made the reservation in September for our October travel dates and was charged in full at the time of booking in September. I also sent them the booking emails that clearly show the dates of travel. They continued to argue over email, even though I asked multiple times for a manager to call me to discuss. As a last resort, I finally had to go through the process of disputing with my credit card company, which required me to get a new credit card (new number) - such a pain and not necessary if this company had simply listened to me, reviewed the documentation thoroughly and attempted any semblance of customer service. What a complete nightmare. The total roundtrip charges to/from the airport were over $330 so we're not talking a minimal amount. Even if it wasn't a lot of money, it's the principal of attempting to charge the customer again (and under another company name mind you) for the same service that was already paid a year previously. Buyer Beware! I would never recommend this company.

I am writing to formally report a complaint about a bus driver, operating Route 10 bus number 4511…read moreon Friday, March 20, 2026. Approximately 1500 hours (3:00 pm), the driver approached bus stop at Rivers Ave/Remount NB where my husband and I were awaiting pickup according to the transit app. The driver's behavior was unprofessional, disrespectful, and discriminatory and caused discomfort to my husband and I. My husband is a Retired VA 100 percent disabled U.S. Veteran. "On 20 March at approximately 1500 hours the driver responded rudely and dismissively: "I am not picking up passengers, only dropping off". I approached the entrance with full busfare in hand. I understood her refusing to allow my husband and I on the transit. Respectfully I greeted the driver and entered our fare into the register. She then sarcastically asks my husband to disassemble our small carryon wagon holding a bag of dogfood for our service dogs at home. As we unloaded before entering fully onto the bus the driver raised her voice at me demanding " help him I'm in a hurry, you should have already taken that out". Several passengers sitting near the back began yelling slanders at my husband and I. The driver took No action to maintain control of her passengers conduct. We, my husband and I took our seat at the front right and continued the route in a composed and respectful manner to reach our destination. We feel the said driver's conduct was rude and unprofessional and even Unconstitutional. We are asking for a formal investigation into the driver's conduct; additional driver training on safety and customer service and an apology or compensation for those effected.

The four star rating is only because the bus was late. But that is only because the bus was having some mechanical issues. If your traveling, the public bus system is great to use. Your smart phone will help you navigate where to walk, what bus stop to wait at and what bus number you should be on. Save money by using the bus. Fares are only $2.00.

We chose to do the full loop first so we could hear Jared's complete narration before hopping off to explore. It was the perfect decision! He shared fascinating details about Savannah's rich history, along with some lesser-known fun facts that really brought the city to life. The tour sparked our excitement to visit spots we might have overlooked otherwise. The hop-on hop-off format worked brilliantly for us. Buses arrived quickly at each stop--we rarely waited long--and the stops are conveniently located near all the main tourist attractions. It got a bit crowded toward the end of the day (around 5 p.m.), and we occasionally had to wait for the next bus, but overall, it was seamless and stress-free. One small suggestion: I wish the tours ran a little later than 5 p.m. It would be ideal for avoiding parking hassles and enjoying dinner downtown--there are so many delicious restaurants to try! We highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting an easy, informative, and enjoyable way to see Savannah. Thanks to Jared for making it memorable!

The Positives: Punctuality: The bus was perfectly on time, which I greatly appreciated. Professionalism: The driver was both courteous and professional throughout the journey. Cleanliness: The bus was notably clean and well-maintained. The Negatives: No Wi-Fi: This was my biggest issue. There was absolutely no Wi-Fi available, which meant I couldn't access any of my online info. I was limited only to what was already downloaded on my hard drive. Limited Space: The seating is very tight. There isn't enough room to comfortably use a laptop in a standard position. I was only able to get work done because I was lucky enough to have an empty row, allowing me to sit sideways. Part two: Summary: If you just need a clean, on-time ride from A to B, this is a great option. However, if you are choosing the bus specifically to get work or studying done, be aware of the lack of connectivity and cramped space. In the future, I'll likely opt for the train to ensure I have the amenities needed for a productive trip.
