I purchased a bridesmaid dress a few months ago at this DB and had scheduled an appointment for alterations being a couple months away from the wedding. I have had alterations done at this location previously and remember them being a bit pricy, but not outrageous. As the seamstress evaluated the fit and rattled off the cost to bring up the shoulder straps, bring in the bodice and hem the skirt, she added up the total cost to be $270. When she asked if that sounded alright, I had to try hard not to laugh out loud. That is more than twice what I paid for the dress itself ($134). How could it be more expensive to take fabric out of a dress than it is to create it?? The store manager offered to order the same dress in a smaller size, but stated I would have to pay to put a rush on the alterations at that point, meaning I wouldn't be saving any money after all. If you are needing alterations done, I suggest you find a local shop that can do a hem for less that $70. And yes, that is what a simple hem will cost you at David's Bridal.
