Our food came cold, we ordered our steaks medium rare, they came medium rare but were very dry. The broccoli was almost raw. Our server stated that their manager was not in and he couldn't do much.He did take one glass of wine our our bill, but you pay a lot to eat at this restaurant and food was unacceptable. read more

Staff are great, steak and potatoes were very very good. Got the escargot with pesto. Sauce was not warmed and very thick. Steak cut onion rings were as if they came out of a bag. Definitely not hand made, thin like a typical burger restaurant. Onion soup was just ok . The prix fixe menu is the best $29 I've ever spent on food. This is Tuesday to Friday and Sunday, after 5pm. It's a 3 course meal of appetizer, entree, and dessert. There is quite a few items to choose from. I got Arancini, trout, and tiramisu. There are "starch" options to choose from for the main entree - I got the risotto. Portions were large enough to make me very full. The food was excellent. The service was also good. Dark dining area at the front of the restaurant makes this ideal for dates. read more

The food was surprisingly disappointing. I was very excited tot day this place and went as a group on a Friday. I am not a food critic by any means, this was just my experience. Service: 5/5 Our waiter was great! Unfortunately forgot his name. Food: 3/5 Crab cakes were mediocre, they kind of tasted like canned crab.. Filet mignon with risotto was VERY disappointing. I ordered medium rare but got medium. No juices at all coming from the steak - quite dry. The risotto tasted off as well, not your typical risotto. Have been to the restaurant many times now. Every time I had the steak because it is one of the best places for me for steaks. Tonight we went because they have a complete course with desert for $29.95. My wife and I decided we should try something different tonight. We both picked the Panko schnitzel. Well they brought the order to us. Our first bite we could something didn't taste right. We believe they cooked it in very hot oil. All we could taste was the burnt Panko, no meat taste what so ever. When the waiter asked us about dinner we explained what was wrong. He apologized for it and within a few minutes he again brought a new serving. This one was really good. Enjoyed the rest of the dinner. Just a note. The schnitzel had a very light gravy with mushrooms on it. I never had it served like this. It was good but when I usually have schnitzel it comes with nothing on it and you squeeze lemon juice on it. Next time I will ask for no gravy on it. Even though we had a problem we had a great time and will go back again. If your trying to find a quiet place this one is a bit noisy. The copper ceilings make the sound level high. We went here based on a recommendation from an Italian Canadian associate who said it is one of her top three favorites in the city. In short, the food was great, only marred by the odd use of cheese on the scallops, which made their taste and texture foreign. Not bad, just odd. The lobster cakes were beautifully subtle and perfectly sauced. The tenderloin tips were the smash of the evening and packed with flavor. Worth a return trip on their own. Also worth a return is this restaurant's old fashioned. They do it well. Rarely does one see a Canadian restaurant excel at cocktails (mostly due to conservative pours), but this is a success. The space is pleasant to a fault. The bar is beautiful and screams for some stools, and some vibrancy. They have made a decision to pursue a particular kind of clientele, it seems. Perhaps older, perhaps more conservative. If that's the case, I respect it, and they seem on track by keeping the bar area "under wraps" as it were. But it saddens the place and adds a pall to the already low lighting. The super friendly, energetic and charismatic wait staff are bright enough to keep things going out front and the folks cooking up the wonderful food in back really brightened my day, but that last star could be won for zinging up the atmosphere one more notch. On the drive here, I thought our GPS was lost. Don't be deceived because this place is a gem. I had the fillet and prawns with macaroni and cheese. The fillet melted in my mouth, and was cooked perfectly medium-rare. The macaroni and cheese was so flavorful and delicious! I'd want to try other things on a different visit but, it would be really hard to pass that up. For dessert, I had the crepe. Oh. My. Gosh. Great experience for our first visit. Host made us comfortable and the waiter was very attentive and professional. It's not something you see anymore. The Ribeye (10 oz) was delicious but a little fatty. Waiter warned me so my fault. The chicken entree was also perfectly done. Thanks for giving our new favorite spot! Update: our last visit never came true due to the fact that they book 5 pm seatings but don't actually open the doors until 5! So we showed up in the pouring rain at 4:50 to be on time and the doors did not open until after 5. We had already started walking across the street to Enzo's. You need to change this. read more

Went for birthday dinner. Ordered steak and lobster. Steak very good. Tasty,tender. Lobster was some breaded lobster meat. Not what I ordered. Talked to waiter and complained about lobster. Menu stated lobster with garlic butter. No mention of breading. Waiter stated they were trying something different. I told him I should of been been made aware it was breaded. Went for Saturday night dinner with 3 couples looking forward to some great food. Two of us had salmon and pasta with no complaints. the other 4 of us had 10 oz ribeye steaks at $33 each. The steak quality was very poor...thin, sinuey and with little marbling and poorly seasoned. Caesar salad wad Ok and service was very good....had 2 bottles of local wine....both adequate. As soon as my wife and I walked in it reminded us of the quaint restaurants from Montreal. Our meal was excellent; calamari and escargots apps followed by a fillet and a rib eye. It is so hard to find a good restaurant that is consistent in quality and service in this town. I am so sick of paying high prices for poor quality food and servers that looked at me like I was a bothering them. I have been here many times over the last 5 yrs and I haven't had a bad experience yet. The wait staff, hostess and chef are top notch. The food is excellent and the drinks, well I usually get a ride cause the martinis are off the hook. The last time I was there the chef came out and asked us about the food. Went to the Take 5 Bistro for my birthday with 4 other women and the food was phenomenal! Everyone ordered different and everyone was pleased. From seafood to chicken to steak EVERYTHING was absolutely delicious. The wine list was also pleasing. My only tip is ask about portion sizes when it comes to appetizers. There was five of us and only four pieces of bruschetta. Service was great and the atmosphere is nice, quieter before our group got there... I never noticed the restaurant before and from the outside it doesn't look like much but those are definitely restaurants to look out for! read more

Good dinner, but nothing exciting. I love the cozy atmosphere and the service was great. Our waiter was very young, but extremely attentive and polite. The Cajun calamari delivered mixed results - calamari was seasoned and tender (5 stars) but the Cajun sauce was too much mayo for me. I would order again, but with sauce on side. All you really need is a lemon wedge! The roasted beet salad was stacked and the a bit on the sweet side. The goat cheese fritter in top helped cut the sugar. We came with 4 adults for a birthday. The restaurant had been well reviewed. We had some pros and cons with our experience. Pros: *food was decent - the steaks were cooked properly. Salmon was the best. *Moscow mules were perfect. Cons: * ordered dirty martinis and they didn't come with olives. They said they were out of olives but didn't let us know that before bringing the drinks. * we had a dairy intolerance and they were unable to accommodate. All sides included had dairy in them. When asked if we could substitute salad for the side and veg, our waiter responded "No, that's extra." When asked if we could add on linguine with olive oil, the waiter was unsure but said without asking anyone "no we don't do that." He did mention that the onion rings had dairy ingredients, but the double order of vegetables ordered instead of a dairy side with the steak had butter all over them. So this is actually a really cute place tucked away on Erie street. It's a good attempt at bringing fine dining to Windsor, but would I go again if I didn't have another gift card? Probably not. $25 for a three course meal is a fantastic deal. My issue was mainly that I just wasn't blown away by anything. The server was nice but was visibly stressed out by my father's questions. I know my Father's questions were dumb, but I shouldn't be able to notice that you think theyre dumb. We were tucked away in the back. A table by the kitchen and bathrooms. The table itself was wobbly. And we were directly under the air conditioning. Not the greatest spot. The food itself was okay. I've had better mussels from my school cafeteria which is frustrating. The sauce they were in was delicious but the mussels itself carried none of its flavour and were bland and mush in my mouth. The fish I had was beautifully presented though the plate itself was quite bare considering the massive platter they brought it out on. It was good, but the server's description made the real thing seem lack lustre. I found myself envious of my father's tortellini. My favourite part of the meal was my crepe. It was perfect. Anyway, not the worst place. But certainly not somewhere I'd return to unless they were having a special like they were or if I wasn't the one paying. read more

We had a 6 pm reservation and we sat and sat till our order was taken, then we sat and sat till our appetizer was brought up, then we sat and sat till our steaks were brought up with just warm vegetables and chewy steak , we would have sent it back but after such a long time waiting we continued with our meal. Then came the long wait for the dessert. This was not one of the best ideas we have had, as our nephew said the steaks on board ship were better and this was just OK. Take five bistro at 1060 Erie in Windsor is definitely an experience. I had called a couple of days ahead to make a reservation, no one answered the phone so I left a message. Since it was a special day (my elderly mother's birthday) I also emailed but ended up having to make reservations through their website (which would only take 4 persons at a table). When we showed up, on time, at a completely empty restaurant; that should have been a red flag (it was a Friday night). I tried to explain that we had an extra person (my brother who was also celebrating his birthday) to the host but with the nastiest attitude, he exclaimed "NOPE". Then he proceeded to answer his phone, all the while my poor mother stood there, on my brother's arm, oxygen in tow trying to stay upright. I tapped him on the shoulder and asked him to seat my mother when he dismissively screeched "OH JUST TELL HER TO SIT DOWN!" After my mother was seated I returned to the host to discuss the situation when he abruptly told me "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THERE IS THE DOOR!"Well we didn't stay after that. We went a couple blocks away to Walkerville Eatery, 911 Walker Rd and had a wonderful, fresh meal with great service! Thanks Walkerville Eatery for saving the day (they were very accommodating to someone with special needs), great service too. Contacted take 5 bistro on December20 to book for a party of eighteen for a Sunday in January. I spoke with Diane who informed me that they would not honour the fixed price menu and would send me a menu with options and prices for out party by Friday, December 22. When we still did not hear from Diane by Jan.2 we called to ask if they would allow our party to order off the fixed price menu and were informed that this was unacceptable. We are disappointed that this restaurant does not was to book a party for what is likely to be an evening that they would have availability and their failure to follow through with a reasonable alternative menu. This was our third visit to Take 5 Bistro. On May 13th we my husband surprised me with dinner at one of Windsor's Steak Houses. We enjoyed their meals in the past so I was really looking forward to my favourite steak Rib Eye. What a huge disappointment. I was expecting a nice at least a 1 to. 1/2 inch rib eye with lots of marbling and juicy flavours. What I got was barely a 1/4 inch what looked like a flattened ribeye claiming to be 10oz. It was not medium rare as ordered. It was dry and had no taste. What I don't understand is why a Bistro advertising excellent steaks would consider ordering a flattened rice eye and charge big money. Next time I am agoing to the Keg. Veggies were a spoonful and the risotto was pastie again with little flavour. I think the kitchen was rushed since it was just before Mother's Day. Staff excellent. Had an amazing meal at Take Five with great service. Really, everything was superb from the baked shrimp appetizer and Caesar salad to start that led to the best part, the 9oz. Filet mignon which was so tender plus some excellent scallop potatoes on the side. Add in some steamed vegetables, garlic mushrooms and asparagus, can't go wrong. Topped it off with fresh cut strawberries on vanilla ice cream for dessert, we got more than our money's worth. Highly recommend for date night or just out friends and family. read more

We tried the Take 5 Bistro because we saw a groupon for it. We were pleasantly surprised! The calamari was excellent.. A little salty but We still loved it! I will definitely be going back for that. The staff were so welcoming and each congratulated us on our special occasion. We were given, in my opinion, the best seat in the house. The wine was delicious. We booked the back room at Take 5 Bistro ten weeks before my mother-in-law's 80th birthday. We were told to contact the owner to make arrangements on a meal plan for our party of 20 to 25 people. Several messages were left before co-owner Cody Northgrave called us back. He agreed to e-mail an advance copy of his new seasonal menu because his current would be out of date by the time we had our party. That e-mail was never received and after several more calls to the restaurant, we finally received a voice mail from Cody informing us he e-mailed the information and were all set for the date we booked. Once again the e-mail was not received. We decided to go to the restaurant four days prior to our booking to ensure there was no issues and were informed we were listed in "the book" but not in the new booking system and that a different party was now booked in the back room. The restaurant manager informed us she showed our booking to the owner prior to him taking the new booking and she was told "we hadn't confirmed". The manager was able to get the Cody on the phone and he advised he "might" be able to accommodate us in the main room which is not what we asked for. After a heated discussion all we got out of him is "I'm Sorry". With people coming from out of town we were left scrabbling to find a new location for our celebration, "I'm sorry" doesn't cut it after the position Cody put us in. The disappointing part is this is a locally owned restaurant that prides itself our serving locally grown ingredients which we like to support, but we will never step foot in there again.
