I had taken a work car over for an oil change here on Laburnum and there were no issues, so I sent my wife over with our personal car to renew the inspection as I felt like I could trust them. Boy was I wrong. They presented her with a long list of repairs that they implied needed to be done to pass inspection, totaling about $1000. I maintain that car myself so I was a bit curious when she called me. My instructions to my wife after she read through the list: get out of there NOW. They ended up hemming and hawing with her and finally admitted, only after she pressed them, that only a small part needed to be replaced ( sway bar link- again, curious) for the inspection. She still demanded the car back and they slow walked the lowering of the car and kept her there another 45 minutes. I brought this car later that week to my trusted mechanic in Lakeside who passed the car with flying colors- I even had them look closely at the sway bar and they told me it was 'perfect'. Only thing they recommended were new rear brake pads, which we did, and that wasn't even on the original list! I think this kind of predatory mechanic shop should be avoided, not trusted, and I certainly will not be back to the Laburnum location.

The staff at this facility are nice, and they were trying their best but with 1 person to greet customers, answer the phone, schedule appointments and only 1 person who showed up to work on cars, a nail in the tire, tire repair or new tire, ended up taking almost 2.5 hours. We were hoping that it would be a fast easy patch, but it ended up being a new tire. While we were there, 2 more worked showed up to work on the cars, so I think that is why it only took 2.5 hours but even with only 1 worker, they said 90 minutes or so, not 150 minutes. They were trying their best and plenty of customers called upset and even some who came in, were upset and left because they waited so long and were never greeted. I appreciate that they tried their best and did a good job. The place is very dirty, and needs a cleaning. There is a restroom.

We stopped at a local gas station so I could check out the tires (safety first!) and sure enough, there was a HUGE screw wedged into one of them. We were both disappointed but knew we needed to get this checked stat. We ended up at this Goodyear purely by coincidence, but I'm so glad we did. I am kicking myself for not catching the gentleman's name, but he was super helpful and understanding. He came out to look at my tire, noting the damage from the screw was so severe that they'd have to replace the entire tire. Fortunately, they had my rare model of tire in stock. He said it would be a 3-4 hour wait, so we nestled into the waiting room, trying to make the best of it. He was super nice throughout the wait, changing the channel to a more interesting program (ie not a little kids show) and continued to chat us up. We only waited a little less than an hour before I was called up to the counter - my car was ready! I thanked all of the guys behind the counter, because I was so grateful they got us back out on the road safely and quickly. Considering they knew our weekend travel plans, I have a sneaking suspicion they expedited my easy-peasy job.

About 10 minutes after I got home, the manager called and said my truck was done. Turn around and walk back. UUUGGGHHH! The work was spot on. He met his timeline promise. The alternator was extremely stubborn to remove, and this repair ended up taking closer to 4 hours. What impressed me most was his persistence. He kept working through the difficulty rather than rushing the job or giving up. By the time he finished, it was well into the dark, and he was still there making sure the repair was completed properly. I also appreciated that he was willing to work with the parts I provided and was transparent about the work being performed. He didn't make me feel rushed, and he stayed focused on getting the vehicle repaired. That kind of dedication is hard to find. When a repair doesn't go exactly as planned, you want someone who is willing to put in the extra time and effort to get the job done right. It's a chain so if you've been to one, it's pretty much consistent for all stores as far as the retail portion is concerned. I want to highlight the auto service in this review. I come here for oil changes all the time. Sign up for their rewards program and they'll send you coupons in the mail. Typically my family and I pay about $20-$25 for an oil change. They're fast too! I drop my car off around 8, when they open up. And typically they're done in 30mins to an hour. On my last visit I saw advertisements for 30mins or less oil changes when you schedule an appointment. As far as other maintenance and repairs to my car, I usually handle them with my pops or have a family mechanic make a repair. This isn't a knock against their service quality, because over the years my family and I have had a few repairs handled by this Pep Boys. Those experiences were all pretty good and we wouldn't hesitate to return. It's just typically we opt to forgo the labor and service markup of a chain auto repair shop and save some money.
