I had taken a work car over for an oil change here on Laburnum and there were no issues, so I sent my wife over with our personal car to renew the inspection as I felt like I could trust them. Boy was I wrong. They presented her with a long list of repairs that they implied needed to be done to pass inspection, totaling about $1000. I maintain that car myself so I was a bit curious when she called me. My instructions to my wife after she read through the list: get out of there NOW. They ended up hemming and hawing with her and finally admitted, only after she pressed them, that only a small part needed to be replaced ( sway bar link- again, curious) for the inspection. She still demanded the car back and they slow walked the lowering of the car and kept her there another 45 minutes. I brought this car later that week to my trusted mechanic in Lakeside who passed the car with flying colors- I even had them look closely at the sway bar and they told me it was 'perfect'. Only thing they recommended were new rear brake pads, which we did, and that wasn't even on the original list! I think this kind of predatory mechanic shop should be avoided, not trusted, and I certainly will not be back to the Laburnum location.

None of their suggestions sounded right to me. After looking on Yelp I found Mr. Kweleme. Mr. Kweleme replaced two of my vehicle's spark plugs and changed the engine oil and it fixed the issue. I also asked his opinion on the other things mentioned by the previous mechanics, and except one thing, everything else that was told by other mechanics was not necessary. It's a chain so if you've been to one, it's pretty much consistent for all stores as far as the retail portion is concerned. I want to highlight the auto service in this review. I come here for oil changes all the time. Sign up for their rewards program and they'll send you coupons in the mail. Typically my family and I pay about $20-$25 for an oil change. They're fast too! I drop my car off around 8, when they open up. And typically they're done in 30mins to an hour. On my last visit I saw advertisements for 30mins or less oil changes when you schedule an appointment. As far as other maintenance and repairs to my car, I usually handle them with my pops or have a family mechanic make a repair. This isn't a knock against their service quality, because over the years my family and I have had a few repairs handled by this Pep Boys. Those experiences were all pretty good and we wouldn't hesitate to return. It's just typically we opt to forgo the labor and service markup of a chain auto repair shop and save some money.
