This is a small hole in the wall Indian restaurant. It has a tiny eating area but do not let that put you off. It is a no thrills place, where everything is served for take out and plastic cutlery etc. The reason for my five stars was for the food. It was really, really good. I sampled their thali lunch, which I was also pleased to note was still offered on a Sunday. I missed the lunch price as I arrived after the 3 o'clock cut off. However I was still allowed to sample it and paid an elevated 16.99 price. My meal consisted of a chicken tikka masala, a vegetable korma side dish, basmati rice, a freshly made naan and a mini dessert. We had a good lunch here. I'd bookmarked this restaurant awhile back, so I wasn't sure why specifically, but we do like Indian food. It turned out to be a good enough stop that my husband said he'd put into our "rotation"! They have thali/combination plates on a lunch special for only $14.99. They included your choice of spice level, an entree, a side, plus naan bread, basmati rice, and dessert (rice pudding). That's what we both selected. My husband had their lamb curry at a medium spice level and vegetable korma as his side. He said the curry was very good. And the vegetable korma which he'd never had before, he also liked. This side had mixed veggies including onions in a creamy tomato sauce with cashews and raisins. He siad he'd get this meal exactly as is, again. I had their chicken tikka masala. I chose mild spice level -- I do this when trying a new spot, just in case it's too peppery. As it turned out, I could have gone to medium. If you don't like any spice at all, is for you. I like a touch. I even tried some of the sauces on the side to give it a bit of a kick. And I was brought some tamarind and some mint sauces to also try. For my side, I chose their Bombay potatoes. Although they were supposed to have curry and other spices, they, too, were fairly plain. The naan bread was freshly baked. And had a great flavor. Each entree is cooked to order. You can watch them in the kitchen combine the ingredients. No buffet line with food sitting around here. And you can definitely taste the difference. This is a small casual restaurant. You order and pay at the counter cashier. There is a small counter and a couple two tops and a couple four top tables. The staff was friendly and helpful. I chose a Thali with Curried Lamb, Vegetable Korma, rice and nan. The lamb curry had seven nice bites of tender lamb in (my choice) Medium spice level sauce. The vegetables Korma was in a creamy,sweet cashew sauce with carrots, green beans, peas, potatoes cauliflower and raisins( Wow!) Was heading back from a get-together up north with some friends. Given that it was dinner time; I was starving and looking to mix things up and went to take out some Indian food at Taj Express. Going in, the place had nice vibrant pictures of Indian dishes across the walls and Indian music in the background. I was pleasantly surprised to see some unqiue bone in chicken dishes on the menu, too! For dinner, I got the combo platter and selected the butter chicken & saag paneer, which came with Naan and a dessert. Moving on with my review, the food was very tasty and on par with places like Aruns Indian Kitchen! The butter chicken was nicely creamy, aromatic, and had subtle sweetness. The saag paneer had rich creamy spinach sauce and tender pieces of cheese. Naan had good char, and the rice pudding had been refreshing after consuming all those bold flavors. The combo meal was a great bang for my buck as I even had leftovers the next day, too. Overall, I highly enjoyed my combo meal and will come back here again soon to try other items on the menu. I was craving Indian food the other day and asked my colleague of Indian descent what authentic Indian food is around East Boca. Immediately, she suggested Taj Express. I ordered the pickup order online. The beautiful thing about this place is you can do two entree specials with naan, so immediately I was sold. I got their butter chicken (I know it's not authentic, but I love it) and their Dal Makhani combo. I also ordered a Mulligatawny Soup because I have not seen any restaurants carry this in a long time. I was pleased with my meal and will return. The shop is located in a small plaza, and there is a dine-in service as well. It looks like it is mostly take out, so I would not come here expecting a fancy lunch. Taste: not really too happy with this; we tried the saag paneer, Bombay potatoes, channa masala and vegetable korma, with rice, naan and a dough-ball dessert, and the vegetable korma was tasty, but the channa masala was bland, the Bombay potatoes slightly undercooked, and the saag paneer was downright foul... more problems, the rice was really dry, the dough desserts had a nice syrup but the balls were stale, and the naan was actually horrible- the naan tasted like it was soaked in butane. It was nasty. Service: they have a small sitting area, but it's basically order at the counter... and it's one of those -laces that asks for a ti- when you order, which I absolutely loathe (like, your food is being held hostage at that point). It took 20 minutes to make; the photos that make it seem like cafeteria style are misleading. Decor: it's awful, with sagging and deteriorating ceiling tiles screaming "Get Out." Price for quality: $12.99 for a lunch combo with two main choices, rice, naan and the small dessert; in terms of quantity, it was almost a fair price, but the taste made this a total waste of money and time. The Naan bread had a bad texture that was almost rubbery and this is one of the few times I didn't bother eating Naan. I decided to try this place because it was recommended to me by a friend. Upon entering it was a very welcoming ambiance. The walls have a wonderful mural depicting their culture with elephants and people going about daily life and such. I was greeted with a huge smile by the kind register cashier who patiently waited for me to decided my order. I got the Thali Platter, which included an Entree, a side and dessert, And a Fresh Mango Lassi. My entire order Including tip was $27.48. First: the name of this restaurant does the food absolutely no justice. For me the name conjure up images of a food court inside the mall. Meanwhile, my family of four all agreed that it was one of the best Indian dining experiences we had ever had. Wife had the chicken korma and she hasn't stopped talking about it for the past two hours. It was perfectly balanced, creamy, delicious full of chicken and so satisfying. The generous portion of white rice was perfectly cooked, and there was enough of both to take home. Both kids had the butter chicken. Both commented on how delicious it was. I stopped a piece of naan in there and agreed that it would be difficult to do anything to improve it. My lamb vindaloo is the measuring stick by which all vindaloo should be compared. It was lovingly made, and clearly took a long time to stew the lamb to perfect tenderness. I asked for it to be extra spicy and they did not disappoint. Such a nuanced and sophisticated dish, isn't always executed to this degree. Standing ovation to the kitchen staff. And that's to say nothing of the amazing appetizers are perfect garlic naan we enjoyed. We saw plenty of people taking food out, and while the dining room was small, it was cozy. This was our favorite but no longer is. The flavors are inconsistent, and Indian seasonings are often lacking. They have heat but no taste. The lamb isn't always cleaned well. The okra is not well cleaned and prepped, so it's stringy and chewy. Some of the dishes are oily. The papadum are hit or miss, sometimes with the taste and texture of cardboard. read more

We ordered from here for the first time, but not the last, this past weekend. I never think to order Indian. In fact I didn't know this place was as in the neighborhood as it is until the revelation, " I wonder if there is an Indian place near here." we checked and before you know it, we were planning our dinner smorgasbord. We don't like to get the same thing, so that we can try multiple things. So even though we both sorta wanted the Butter chicken I looked around and found the Lamb Tikka Masala. we had it delivered which was dang quick. I think Indian Food is one of those that the sauces are already made so it goes out quick, no pun intended. We really liked both alot. the flatbread they make was so good and it was hard to stop using it to dip and eat both dishes. The one I got had onion baked into it which , if you like onions, was fantastic. We really liked our meal and fully plan to order from them again. The Garlic Naan was also hot and perfectly balanced. There is enough sauce to dip your naan in and still have plenty for the rice. Service was quick from when we ordered to bring it back home. Not sure what's happening at Taj Express, but the food prep is in decline. They've gone from the best in town to mediocre. The lamb dishes now have a yucky oily puddle resting on the surface. The okra is poorly prepared and cooked, leaving it stringy and tough. An order of brown rice was barely half size, as if they hadn't made enough for the night. The papadums were something but not any papadum I've ever eaten and not like any they've ever made before. The chana masala was tasty but the portion size is declining. They've been slipping all this year so there must be turnover in the kitchen. There are other options in this area we'll revisit before returning to Taj Express. Taj is new in this location. It's hard to find, so look for the Dominos sign as it's in the same shopping plaza. I like the variety of food which includes many vegetarian dishes as well as beef and chicken. The lunch specials are a very good deal and allow you to indulge without feeling like you paid to much. I've tried many of the dishes and I have always been pleased. I was in India a year ago (pre Covid) and the food does mirror India. I would try this place if I were you. read more

New favorite Indian spot. Looked up Taj Express when Bombay cafe decided to close early and it was the best decision ever. My husband and I both got the lunch special butter chicken with rice and Chana. The food was so flavorful the chicken was very moist and the food is fresh for every order. A side of garlic naan and raas malai it was so amazing just like a true Indian meal. The man was so polite and made me feel so welcomed and it is a small space meant for take out but you can still dine in it's a small intimate restaurant. Will go again read more
