I followed the bang bang with the most meaty seafood shu mai ever. There is no question that the seafood shu mai are seafood, the shrimp are large, delicious and plentiful in the filling. The dishes of dipping oil and soy were also seasoned and not just poured from a bottle. Service was friendly and the decor beautiful and comfortable. A must visit place in Auckland !

We went here for dinner for the evening of Sat 22 June…read more Fang is tucked away in the middle of a newish building at 100 Parnell Road. Parking is pretty good that part of Parnell and so once we walked all the way into the depths of the building on the ground floor all was well. We were seated quickly, and had our waitress come with water and to answer any additional questions promptly. She recommended a number of sharing plates, which was fine by us as we thought that would probably be a good way to go anyway. We started off with some of the lotus chips which were awesome. We then received a selection of dishes including lamb short ribs, crispy pork ribs (a winner), supposedly very spicy bang bang chicken in lettuce cups (it wasn't that spicy but had a bit of kick and was delicious too), Crispy squid tentacles were also a popular choice. The kung pao soft shell crab was tasty but a bit small serving wise, and the dumplings all tasty too. The pork belly was average, nothing wrong with it but not a standout. My wife especially liked the slow cooked beef shin. Service was excellent, food was tasty and interesting, restaurant a little dimly lit but very cool nevertheless (perhaps better for dates than family dining but I'm being picky here). My only quibble is value, it's not bad value for money but it wasn't great value either. If it were slightly cheaper I wouldn't hesitate to score it 5/5. However, that is not a deterrent to me wanting to try the restaurant again, as the Rest of the package was all of a very high standard. We will be back for sure.

All kinds of noodle, with soup or without, most of them are authentic taste. However I do enjoy the simple noodle with fried spring onion oil, a little bit soy sauce and that's it. People from Shanghai usually take it as a snack before dinner during summer time. Smelling the spring onion oil, in a certain way, is like special treat to your nose. I bet you will enjoy it. Then you can try the typical fried pork buns with the smoky bottom adding the flavor, juicy but tasty inside. Watch your tongue while eating it hot. Fried rice cake is another option if there is still space left for a gourmet treat. You can tell basically it is rice pudding just fried, still crispy, still full of crunch biting fun by your teeth. Go for the dish on the menu, I believe it is worth trying after 4-year successful opening. People know the right place to eat something local and good value. Just wish the decoration could be improved with some touch of the classic Shanghai.

Wow....just unbelievably wow. If you are in Auckland, this is the restaurant to make reservations…read moreat. You will fall in love with this place and will want to come back again and again. First off, hats off to the owners for doing such an impeccable job on the decor and design. From the intricate restaurant design, the lush comfy chairs, the menu layout, the mocktails, and even the rustic bathrooms were all very impressive. Now let's get down to the food. We started off with the shumai dumplings with peanut sauce. The skin of the shumai was so soft and thin which I truly appreciate because you can taste the stuffing better. The peanut sauce was nutty and savory and extremely addicting! Next we had the salt and pepper tofu with a vinegar sauce. The flavors here were a bit flat and needed more of a peppery taste but the presentation of this dish made it worth it. The chicken satay was super tender and juicy. The creamy sauce with the savory clear vinegar sauce worked really well together. The ribs had a yummy flavor but the meat could have been a bit softer. I recommend doing a broil for the ribs at the end so the sauce gets a nice caramel. To top it off we ended the night with the mango pudding. It was a hard decision but we liked the refreshing flavors. There was a lot of stuff going on in this dessert, but was still impressed with the details in textures. We hope to be back here one day!

I like it how the portions are designed to share and they come out the kitchen when done without seating on a counter to wait for other meal to be ready. Nice timing in serving: extra fresh!!! We went twice and definitely would go back.

Neon lights? Check. Cheap and delicious Asian-fusion food?…read moreCheck. Friendly service? Check. Unlimited corn chips and fizzy and closing time of 2am? Bonus. You will find all this and more at the newly opened Belly Worship, a Chinese-fusion style restaurant located on Dominion Road. On the menu, there are a range of dishes available - steamed and fried dumplings, taco buns, spicy pancakes, stir-fried noodles, chicken, pork, beef and tofu dishes. The restaurant is not licensed, but they do offer a self-service bar where you pay just $3 for unlimited soft drink, alongside popcorn, corn chips and pretzels. This is a great idea - something to snack on while you wait for the rest of your party. It is also self-service for plates, bowls, cutlery and added sauces. Between three of us, we ordered quite a feast: - Spinach Taco Bun with Pork Belly ($7) - Shrimp, Pork and Chive Dumplings ($12) - Litchi Pork ($9.90) - Spicy Pancake ($5), with Duck (+$8) - Bamboo Chicken Wings ($14) - KungFu Kebabs with Fish Tofu and Beef ($16) - Scallion Fried Broccoli ($14) - Coconut Rice ($3) We enjoyed every dish (except one, see below), with our favourites being their signature Litchi Pork - similar to sweet and sour pork, but a little less rich and accompanied by potatoes and whole litchi (lychees). Priced at $9.90, it is a steal! The Spicy Pancake was also a highlight - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. You can choose to have one of six fillings if you like (at an additional price) - we chose Duck. The pancake was huge, and with the extra duck and bean sprouts/slaw, this could be a meal in itself! It was also spicy, flavourful and the duck was cooked perfectly. We also liked the deliciously spiced and crispy Bamboo Chicken Wings, the arrival of the Shrimp, Pork and Chive Dumplings sizzling in the pan, the KungFu Kebabs with tender beef (not sure about the fish tofu), and our two side dishes, Scallion Fried Broccoli (YUM!) and Coconut Rice. The only dish we did not enjoy was the Spinach Taco Bun. Having read many great reviews, I had high hopes. Plus, the bun is green! (Thanks to the fresh spinach infused into the soft taco bun). However, we were super disappointed and left half of it. The bun was dry, the pork belly was dry and there was no flavourful sauce to tie all the ingredients together. Serving sizes for all dishes were plentiful and everything is reasonably priced. We also had more than enough to eat (for three) for lunch the following day. So, what did I think overall? Belly Worship is definitely worth checking out, for its cheap and cheerful menu, Instagram-worthy decor, and quirky self-service bar offering unlimited snacks and soft drink.. bring on the Fanta!!! [P.S. If you are Googling 'Belly Worship', make sure you put Dominion Road or Auckland too... otherwise you will be in for a surprise!]
