Took my dog in for a grooming. They quoted 69.00$. Came back 90 minutes later, it was 84.00$. The prices are subjective whoever grooms their dog. My regular groomer charges 60.00. The price is the price, never over charge for one persons opinion on extra work that needs to be done. My regular groomer took almost two weeks to get in. I got this appointment the next day, which shows their is not a lot of repeat business. Puppy Love dog grooming, better price and better service. Google it!! read more

While I chose grooming as was close to my home I will never return. Management is very poor and does not care about errors made with booking when it is their fault. Seems they only care about bringing the money in. Grooming itself was not the best as several times they cut my dog which could be reasonable, but nothing was ever said. They are not professionals! Our first, and only, experience with Tailz Grooming was horrible. We brought our 15-year-old pure-bred Maltese (Maggie) in for routine grooming in December. They requested that we pay upfront for the service, which we did. I do not recommend that you do this. We received a call a short time later stating that, due to matting in Maggie's coat, they had to "go shorter" than planned for the cut. When we returned to pick up Maggie, we were absolutely shocked to find that her coat had been completely removed. We were never informed that they intended to shave off Maggie's full coat. We have taken our Maltese and Yorkie to other competent groomers, and never once has there been an issue with matting that required our dogs to be shaved. I called the owner/manager to discuss and request a refund. She was extremely defensive and refused to refund our payment. She has not returned any of our subsequent phone calls. In my opinion, this is an extremely unprofessional business, and I would NOT recommend that you bring your dog to Tailz for any grooming services. read more

I'm basing this review on my horrible experience with daycare services. First I need to say that my puppy has been going to puppy socials with certified dog trainers since she had her required vaccinations, she has been to Dogtopia multiple times and whines at me when I come to take her home because she wants to keep playing with her dog friends and she has also completed other puppy classes with certified trainers. I try to make sure she gets to run around and play off leash with other dogs at least once a week. I had taken her to be groomed at Tailz twice and they did an amazing job and really seemed to care about her, so when they tried to sell me on their puppy classes I said sure. They train for things that weren't covered in her puppy obedience class and she loves being around other dogs. I would have taken her back for day training at Naughty Boyz Dog Training which could be tailored to go over some of the things Tailz provides, but the times just didn't work with my schedule. I dropped her off for a morning of Puppy Plus classes at Tailz with her lunch and instructions and assumed she'd be okay. When I went to pick her up she didn't whine because she wanted to play with the other dogs. She shook like she was scared and burrowed herself into me, licking me like I had saved her from a terrible situation. When I asked why her food wasn't at the pick up spot, they couldn't find it and when they returned it to me it looked like it hadn't been touched. My heart sank. I thought wow they starved my dog or she was so scared of this place she couldn't eat. She's a picky eater, but even on her pickiest day she still eats the wet food out of her mixed wet and dry food combo. So, I asked the person at the front desk how she did that day and she was just like um I've only been here for two hours so I don't really know. The reviews I've read that say the small dogs are largely unsupervised are really starting to sound like they're true. So do the reviews that the dogs are just allowed to bark their heads off in crates if they misbehave because all you could hear when doors were opened is dogs yapping. Definitely not a place I will be leaving any pet I care about again. I wish I had taken the time to look at more reviews before leaving my dog in what I can only imagine is a dog prison. read more

I have a high energy 70lb labrador mix who loves people and dogs, a lot. I take him to Tailz every so often for daycare to play with the other dogs when I am too busy to walk him or pay attention to him that day. Sometimes I feel like the staff may be annoyed that I am bringing him in because he can be so excited to see the people and dogs, but the staff always make me feel assured that he is in caring, responsible hands. They say they love having him, and he always leaves happy and tired which is great. Today i took him for a grooming, nails and shampoo with a daycare visit also and the staff did a great job with that and my dog clearly loved it. I thought Bernie was doomed to a life of backyard haircuts by me until I met the amazing staff at Tailz. Previous groomers at larger pet store chains had either refused to complete the groom because of his aggression or did a really quick "best as they could" job as they would call it. The experience at Tailz was completely different the minute we walked in the door. The environment was calm and we were immediately met with smiles and friendly voices. I warned the lovely staff about Bernie's anger management issues and left him in their capable hands. I was shocked when they called me in less than 2 hours to say Bernie was ready to go. The other place made us book a half day appointment and they kenneled him until it was his turn....I would probably be upset too if my barber ran his shop that way. I arrived to the happiest and most handsome puppy I had ever picked up from the salon as we now refer to it. Bernie actually gets excited when he realizes he's going to see the girls at Tailz. I can't thank the staff enough for how well they treat him and I'm pretty sure Bernie would give them 6 out of 5 bones for service if he could. We're customer's for life. Thanks ladies!!!! read more

I took my cat to be groomed. But the room was a mess. There was hair everywhere. The brushes, clippers and everything were dirty. The table looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a while. It was also more expensive than other places I've taken her. I won't be taking her there again. Update: The manager called me to address my concerns about the groomer. Doggy daycare, grooming, and a cute little pet supply store, Tailz definitely has potential. I love their new location on 111th which they've been on for a couple of years now! I've taken my dog to them for a grooming and they've never hurt or messed up his cut. I've heard both bad and good things about their grooming so I guess it just depends on your dog and how they handle grooming. My dog comes every couple of months without fail. Their day care is convenient and although I don't use their day care, I've seen plenty of happy dogs there. A good thing is they have a separate area for small dogs in their daycare which my dog would appreciate if I ever needed to put him in daycare. Their selection of products is smaller then larger pet stores, but they carry brands like acana, orijin, and other organic foods that wouldn't be found in petsmart. I always buy my dogs food there! I trust their product and I never have to worry about whether or not the food or treats will be safe or healthy for my fur babies! read more

Somehow I knew this quaint little neighbourhood shop would have brands like ACANA and ORIJEN. Taking a quick peruse of the selves I could see they seem to only stock top rated/ethical dog food. The girl at the till was very friendly considering I hurriedly came in 2 mins to close on a saturday night. I foresee a definite return here! read more

Disappointed in this place. Horrible customer service. Kept my cat for over 3 hours because of a booking error that they didn't tell me about until I got there. Probably never let him out of his kennel or gave him water or food. If I could give a negative 5 star review I would. The staff will talk over you so that you don't have the opportunity to voice your concern. They will take every opportunity to blame the customer for the booking error. I am all for supporting local business but this business I cannot support due to the lack of customer service, common sense and animal well being. We had been loyal customers to Tailz for about three years, having our dog regularly groomed and buying all our dog food and supplies there. In that time, we have seen a lot of staff turnover. Recently, an inexperienced groomer cut through our dog's tongue (like completely through a third of his tongue!) resulting in permanent injury. We brought him to the veterinarian to make sure he didn't have any infections. Tailz refused to pay the vet bill (about $160). They offered a free grooming. I will never bring my dog there again for another amateur groomer to injure. Stay very far away. read more

Can you believe that Edmonton has a doggy day care? Well, it does, and Tailz is IT. The rates are very reasonable ($24 for full day to be exact). When I walked in, there were three dogs playing in a room full of toys and treats. I guess, they are well taken care of. I have never used Tailz' day care services before, so I will comment what the rest of the place is like. Half of Tailz' floor space is occupied by the abovementioned dog day care room, while the rest of the place is reserved for the shelves with various products: from dog clothes, grooming tools and shampoos to dry and canned food, leashes and toys. During my recent visit, the customer service representative was busy helping another customer choose booties for her adorable dog who was very reluctant to put them on. I actually preferred browsing store's selection in peace and without any assistance. I won't say that the selection of products at Tailz is great. I assume that the major thing tha makes this place great and unique, is the fact that it is a day care for dogs, and not that it is a great pet store. I found the selection to be very limited. And frankly, most accessories such as dog brushes looked dusty, literally. I liked the selection of dog food though. It was the only thing in the store that was in abundance. There were also beautiful elevated dog feeders for sale which looked elegant but cost way too much. One last thing about Tailz: this place offers self serve pet wash at good prices. For those who don't want to make a mess of their bathroom while cleaning soiled four legged friend, this service at Tailz is a great alternative. read more

This is what is being said on facebook edmonton dog pages about this place and after the recent dog abuse at the dog groomers in Calgary this scares me: "I saw/heard a small breed dog yelping in pain. i was waiting to be next. i gave her a piece of my mind and left. this is off stony plain road close to the cemetery. she was the only staff at this dump. a family was waiting to buy dog food and they looked upset but said nothing." I have been in this store before and personally I have seen them screaming at the dogs in the daycare, spraying them in the face with water spritzers, and using elastics to muzzle dogs to be quiet or to behave. This place is not dog friendly at all! I have also head that people are now calling the humane society to have this place investigated. I really hope this place gets shut down. read more

The store looks very well kept, and I walked in while an owner was picking up their dog from grooming and was absolutely in love with the cut. I don't know much about grooming, but if the owner loved it, so be it. The main thing that turned me from Tailz was the Day Care. The day I went there it looked over-crowded! The girls in there seemed to be almost tripping over dogs to get to other dogs. On top of that a small brindle boxer began to attack another dog. An employee stopped the fight, and it looked like she had been bit by the dog. She walked behind a door, and came back without the dog. To top it off, I came back a day or two later and this brindle boxer was back! Definitely NOT bringing my dogs here if they allow an aggressive dog back! The dog didn't seem to have any control and was just biting anything it could sink its teeth into! What if a small dog were what it could get at?! It'd tear the little dog to shreds! Over crowding probably is a huge issue with the aggression, so until Tailz either expands, or gets rid of their aggressive dogs, I'm definitely going elsewhere! read more

My husband and I were looking to put our dog in daycare and after searching around for what we thought was the best place, we chose Tailz. What a mistake that was. The day care told us that all dogs had to be up to date on vaccinations, including kennel cough. We took our bulldog to day care on the Thursday and by Sunday night we started noticing he had a runny nose and was snorting more than usual. We took him to the vet to find out he has kennel cough. We think it was from the day care because he hadn't been anywhere else or in contact with any other dogs since Thursday. We notified the daycare and they didn't even seem the least bit concerned. They minimized what kennel cough really is and we are not veterinarians so we shouldn't be evaluating the condition. Yes, we found out it isn't dangerous or life threatning almost like the flu, but it is still something that can be avoided if you didn't let dogs who have kennel cough in the daycare. I understand that all dogs get sick, but they shouldn't be at the daycare until they are better. I asked for a refund of the remaining days our dog had left and the ones he had used but the manager/owner refused to refund the money. I would of even settled on the unused days. She evaded any concerns I had by asking irrelevant and personal questions. All she could do was keep repeating "we don't give money back" rather than actually giving any well thought out response. That was the worst customer service I have ever received. I will never return there. I even had to confirm she was going to notify the exisiting daycare customers that someone has a sick dog so those people can monitor their dogs. i don't know if she did in fact tell clients there was at least one reported case (our dog). All this daycare did was cost me a trip to the vet. Seriously Tailz, you need to implement a better screening process so this can be prevented in the future. I guess Tailz's customers are not very valued or respected. Not refunding money is more important than keeping a customer who would have kept coming back. I guess they need the money more than we do. Please note that this bulldog is mine and my husbands heart. We would do anything for him and to know that a daycare who claim to provide top notch care didn't even ask if he was alright is disheartening. It frightens me to think what really goes on there during the day when none of the guardians are around to see. read more

Poor customer service. Besides making a special trip to the store after being told the Santa photos were in, then finding out it's not, the photos were on disc, and they didn't even protect the disc by slipping it into a proper disc case or properly fitting envelope. They even refused to provide some tissue paper so that I could protect the disc. Too bad for them, I was planning on buying some items and changed my mind. Won't be going back there. My teacup poodle, a $4000 cost when I got him and, currently 2 years old small doggy. I took him to Tailz in JULY 11 2015, for the first time. The store had a nice interior, receptionist was cute and nice; however they were 40 minutes late giving me my dog back. Not even that but they took 7 min infront of me to take a picture of my dog for their social network without my permission, My dog was like he was in hell when he saw me and he was the most happiest to get out of there, the grooming was okay and I can pass that. My issue is that he got a very bad cut with a clipper (razor) on his stomach above his penis, I just found it out when I was home, and saw him licking it since we got home. Then I find out that the cut was deep and I took him to emergency, cost 200$ including Medicine, Hopefully it doesn't get infected and need surgery. I was very mad and I didn't know what to do... I DO NOT RECOMMEND " TAILZ " TO MY FRIENDS OR MY ENEMIES. read more

I think one star is too generous for this place. The daycare is an empty room with too many dogs and limited vetting of which dogs. After seeing how cautious and caring other daycares are in town, I am shocked at how little concern they have for dog safety. The small dog area is an expanded exercise pen and the day care is a virtually empty room. Other daycares have equipment for play, separate rooms to manage the excitement levels, and well trained staff. A few of the younger part-time staff are kind and great with dogs, but the manager and assistant manager are unprofessional and extremely rude. read more

Horrible management! They do not take responsibility for their actions. My dog had a grooming here and when I brought him home he developed a rash on his underside. I called Tailz to let them know of the situation and they were quick to be defensive and quick to say they will not reimburse for the grooming. I did not once ask for the money back but I wanted to make sure the tools used were sterile and everything was done to protocol so when I bring him to the vet they would know as much information about how the rash could have developed. First the groomer called me, her name is Janice and she was extremely rude to talk to. Felt like I was dealing with a teen with a attitude so I asked her to get the owner to give me a call. Than I dealt with the poor excuse of a owner named Jill. Wasted 15 minutes of my life talking to her, she's completely useless as a owner, and clearly does not know how to deal with customers. All she could say was my dog was "difficult". You opened a grooming shop you should be well prepared in the case that a dog isn't always obedient. My dog did not rip tear through your skin. To top it off, after she was done avoiding the real problem and she goes on to say she doesn't know what to do or say to me and "apologizes". Wow! I can't believe all the bad review on this place. Frankly I disappointed with the overall public. The store is good. The staff there are knowledgeable about the products and friendly. The groomers are pretty good as well. I read one review about a dog screaming....yeah some dogs don't like to be groomed and they fuss and fight and bite and scream. That doesn't mean they are being hurt! In fact most groomers wont even do your dog if it fusses like that. So kudos to the groomers for putting up with peoples crazy dogs!! As for the daycare. The staff do not use squirt bottles any more, nor do they put elastics on the muzzle's of dogs. They have toys, and treats and play with the dogs. They dogs are happy, and the ones who are not have been messed up in the head by their neurotic owners and the staff do the best they can to keep them under control. Which if any of you have ever tried to keep order in a group of 20 or more dogs who are all strangers, you would get a crash course lesson in what they have to deal with. There will always be accidents, and I'm sure even far less in daycares than at your local dog park. The only difference there is you don't have a business to blame.
