Being a new single dog dad scared me. I've been waiting 10 years to get a dog. I've always wanted a…read morepuppy but the start to this journey really scared me. Especially since I'm doing this alone. Mikaela at Horizon has really been there for us and helping me to be a supportive dog parent. Bohdi gets compliments all the time what a good dog he is. He's an English Retriever and I've had him since he was 8 weeks. Mikaela taught me the importance of patience and was really there for me in my time of need when I felt like I was doing something wrong (I tend to overthink and be hard on myself). She would give me guidance and ways to be more patient and to also understand that he is just being a puppy and he is trying to figure things out. She helped me to keep going at a steady and learning patience. The Canine Connection School is also really amazing and I love it. I just wish it had a section for new puppy owners or just puppies in general. Like a section of how to start off with success with a new puppy and how to stay strong during this hard time. Mikaela taught me the importance of check ins, how to be Bohdi's advocate, Bohdi's body language cues, and helping me with crate training techniques. Her guidance through Bohdi's fear period has also helped immensely. I know that going through Horizon may be a bit expensive, but this is an investment that you will have forever. It's like paying for college, but this is going into knowledge of having a bond with your pup and having a better understanding of how to be there for them. One of my favorite things I've learned from Horizon is that your dog is not an accessory. He is your family member. You are his whole world. Be your dogs advocate. Bohdi is now 23 weeks old. We will most likely go back for another session when he is 1 years old or later. Just to check in and see how we are both doing. I'm continuously learning and I count on Horizon to be there.

I recently adopted a rescue dog who was in a bad hoarding situation and he was terrified of…read moreabsolutely everything and had lots of issues. I had him for four VERY LONG weeks. Things were awful. I was miserable, frankly depressed, and felt like I'd made one of the biggest mistakes of my life adopting Fred. I love dogs, and thought long and hard before adopting one. Despite that, it took all I had to not send him back...something I never thought I'd consider. Three weeks in I was at my wit's end and literally about to text the foster mom who had Fred before me, just minutes before my free consultation with Tara at The Dog Wizard. Tara talked me off a ledge and told me she's dealt with extremely difficult cases like Fred before - one in particular who is now thriving today. So I gave her a chance and enrolled him in the 3 week program. She offered to keep him longer if needed without additional charge if she felt he needed it. You could tell she wanted to help him (and me) and cares deeply about the dogs she works with. Long story short, Fred spent 6 weeks there (just to show you how much help he needed)! I got Fred back today and I am absolutely shocked at the change in him. I don't want this post to get too long, but he doesn't constantly shake anymore, he'll go up to strangers and act comfortable around them, he's less anxious around other dogs, he knows and follows commands, he doesn't dart away from me all the time, and just seems so much more comfortable, confident, and relaxed overall. I honestly was prepared to still take him back to the rescue, that's how bad things were (I felt very hopeless). Not only do I not see that happening now, but I see hope for lots of bonding in our future. And Tara offers ongoing support after training - group classes, continued training, etc. I can't say enough good things about Tara and her staff at The Dog Wizard! If you're hesitating, don't! She was sick when she got here -- vomiting and diarrhea, sometimes with blood in her stool. We took her to our vet, only to find that she had an intestinal parasite. Total cost to cure: over $500. She has also been a constant behavioral problem -- destroying furniture. Worst of all, she is afraid of almost everything -- from the first day she arrived. The Crockett trainer said she was shy -- hardly. It's as if she were traumatized as a very young puppy. She is the product of a Lancaster, PA puppy mill. The Crockett people should be driven out of business. We spent thousands of dollars for a dog that is a constant problem.

He was dangerous due to his severe anxiety and size, and we were terrified that we were going to need to find a new home for him. We have a baby and had to create separation of the living spaces due to the safety risks, but Larry helped us bring more unity back into the home, SAFELY. He provided us with the tools we needed to gain control again of our situation, where we can all share a happy living space now. We have been able to curb a lot of our dog's anxiety by being confident in our commands, so our anxiety has lifted too. Update. I understand Larry wants his customers to be successful. He's just not honest about his…read moreability to deal with larger dogs. Larger dogs need a lot more, very specific training. They do not need a trainer who basically seems uninterested and won't even touch them. He's going to come with a nice checksheet, let you do the work, and it's pretty much what every single trainer on youtube will teach you. Again as nice as he is, even in his response here, know I think most people don't give him a bad review because he's a nice old guy. If you have a larger dog, a breed that is known to be head strong, or both, do not waste your money. There's only one larger breed dog trainer in the area and they are not as convenient and far more expensive. There's also a trainer that specializes in large breed dogs that trains with online sessions that work better. Two of his sessions will cost you about the same as what Larry charges but you'll get training that actually works. Sorry Larry, but feel you really need to be honest that you're not experienced or successful with larger breeds. My best friend's husband's friend had the same issue, and she asked him to review also as he expressed the same frustration. But I can't speak to his story other than as point to you to either learn more about working with larger dogs or be honest with future customers up front that you don't want, like, etc to work with them.

I can only speak to the daycare aspect of Camp Bow Wow since I haven't yet tried any of their other…read moreservices, but my dog loves coming to day camp. As soon as we pull in the parking lot, he gets way excited to go play. He usually suffers a bit of separation anxiety but he has no problem at all leaving me in the lobby when he goes back to the play area! The counsellors all seem to love him and when I'm picking up or dropping off, they seem to know a lot of the dogs' names. Having the 'Camper Cams' is a plus, too, since I like to be able to check in on my boy throughout the day. He's always following someone (human or canine) around, his tail going a mile a minute. And the best part? He's pooped at the end of the day. So he gets a good time and I get a break from an 8 or 9 month old puppy with incredibly high energy levels.
