I absolutely love Astro Kennels! They are so accommodating and helped me out immensely when my holiday boarding fell through. They are a very clean facility and have amazing kennels; all that work there are very courteous and kind; and extremely knowledgeable - loved the trainer and the classes. the issue is they are the only game in town that I could find that advertised or was recommended that was NOT just a drop off training. so they are BEYOND busy. you have to have mercy and patience and forgiveness which many in this world are lacking. read more

We took a vacation and kenneled our furbabies for twelve days. They sent us pictures with comments on how things were going. I completely forgot our old girl's birthday occurred while we were gone. Astro Kennel didn't. She got to celebrate with her siblings and had a Pup ice cream. One picture we received was of Nittany wearing a party hat. Later that week, they went dock diving. I had to text them to ask them to stop having so much fun with our furbabies, or they would not want to come back home. read more

We LOVE Astro Kennels both in Five forks and Mauldin! The staff is amazing and very friendly. My dogs love going here. We have done several training courses usually with trainer Sandi, who is the best! We have had four of our dogs go through their training classes, and they always are so much better behaved After a few training sessions, either privately trained or in obedience classes. Thanks Astro- you guys are awesome! Usually when my doggies first come, they send me pictures of their first day at that doggy daycare and if they go on wilderness I get lots of fun pictures of them with other playmates on the wilderness adventure! Still waiting over 1 months for a call back from Chris the office manager! Had a lot of questions after my dog was boarded there for 3 days. Why was i charged and my dog was only given an indoor board after i reserved an indoor/outdoor 3 wks prior? Also my dog's food was returned to me with only a 1/4 of it gone (from her gallon freezer bag of food), 1 1/2 cups to be given/day and all of her treats i provided was also returned. read more

*TIED FOR #1 Dog Training in the Greenville area* This is part of my review series on Therapy Dog Training. Our dog was recently certified and we want to help our neighbors through this long process! We were initially worried about going to Astro because we saw their police dog training program and thought that their training style would be too harsh. Boy were we surprised! Sandy and the training crew can get any dog to his/her potential and specialize in rehabilitating rescue dogs, so their approach balances positive and negative reinforcement to help dogs develop a gentle, responsive disposition. We completed intermediate and advanced classes at Astro, then did private lessons to complete our AKC Good Citizen and Advanced certification. Positives: Astro Kennels has the best suite of dog training classes in the Upstate. Their huge Astro dome and outdoor training ground are a beautiful venue. They have the best supply of collars and leashes, and a good boarding program. Negatives: They do not have a dedicated Therapy Dog class or Therapy Dog evaluators. They do offer private lessons that are excellent. *Routes to Therapy Dog Certification: 1. Attend private lessons for beginner through Therapy Dog and then get certified through Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD) via Noble Dog Hotel. This is the more expensive option. 2. Attend classes at Astro Kennels, then take Therapy Dog class at Petsmart in Mount Pleasant, SC, and then contact a private ATD evaluator through the ATD website. Took my GS to get Groomed. They called me to pick him up he was ready. He still had poop on his Butt and his tail hair was still full of dreads. When I told the desk about his condition, they stated they don't do any hair cutting!!! How do you "GROOM" if there is no hair cutting??? I could have taken him to Earthwise and bathed him my self. We've been taking our dogs here for years with no problems. Our dog has come home with kennel cough 3 times in the last 6 months. We have used no other kennels during this time. Unfortunately we will no longer be using this facility. read more

We have taken our dog to this daycare on three occasions. All have been for a weekend stay (3 days max). The first time she came home with kennel cough. The second time she came home with a really BAD eye infection which then transferred to the second eye. This last time she came home with kennel cough AGAIN. Unfortunately, this case is getting really bad. She's coughing up phlegm and we'll need to take her to the vet. As another reviewer noted, these guys are just too busy. Too busy for their own good. They're not paying attention to sick dogs coming in and infecting healthy dogs. Needless to say, we will not be taking our dog back and will start looking for a reputable daycare. read more

Wish I could give 0 stars, that is how disappointed I am. I have been taking my dog there for training, boarding and day care since he was a pup. I took him for day care and when he got home he started throwing up blood along with pieces of rubber. I cleaned several (6-7) handfuls of rubber - it looked like their floor mat. When I called them, their first reaction was that they had looked around and they could only find normal tear and wear and had all sorts of excuses. Thankfully I took pictures and when I sent them their attitude changed to "I am sure the owners will pay for vet bills". While I do not expect someone to be staring at my dog all day long I do expect them to at least oversee the dogs. Otherwise, what is the point of taking them in? My dog threw up so much rubber that there is no way this happened in 5 minutes. Their excuse was that my dog never showed that he could do something like that before. I could never trust them again. I used to recommend them to all my friends and coworkers but really find another place to take your dogs. I have told this to all the people that were taking their dogs because of my recommendations. They clearly do not supervise them while staying in there. read more

For the past year we have been bringing our German Shepherd Major to Astro! We decided to start Majors training after he developed severe aggression issues towards people and other pets at random. One minute he was fine and the next he was lashing out. Soon after he started training with Sandy Jewell Bayne we saw huge improvements in his home behavior, but we still had a ways to go with people and other pets. Well we have made it... and in WAY less time than I thought it would be lol! Major now has a doggy bestie (his cousin Wrenn) and also loves giving kisses and snuggles to people he previously had issues with. We can't wait to continue Majors training and see how far he can go! A week ago I would have given them 5 stars since our puppy seems to love their daycare. However we noticed a large bump and scab on the side of her back that could have only come from there. We didn't get a call or any sort of notification that there had been an issue. This is the same day that they clipped her nails down to the quick. She's come home a couple of times limping a little and we figured she had just played so hard that her little legs were tired. Now I'm wondering what else has happened that they failed to tell us about. They are so busy I don't think they have any idea what's going on with the dogs that are there. We will be looking for a new daycare. read more

We have been taking my daughter's dog here for several months. Training, boarding and daycare. I don't know what has changed in the last month or so but the front desk staff are SO RUDE! Today was the last straw - Dudley will not be coming back. Today I was pretty much treated like a child when Dudley was pulling over to another lab to say hello. I asked the owner of the other dog if he could say hello, they said sure - then girl at the desk raced over to me (never acknowledged me when we walked in, but this she had to come right over) and said in the worst condescending voice "Please don't do that - we don't let dogs meet in the lobby." She then took the leash from me. Her tone and how she came over to "correct" me was very uncalled for. So I took his leash back and told her nevermind we would be leaving. She kept on talking and spouting the rules as we walked out. I have worked as a petsitter and was a manager at a Dog Boarding/Daycare facility in Charlotte for years. This is NOT how you talk to people. This isn't the first incident either with the attitudes at front. If you are rude to us when we drop off our dog - how are you treating my dog while you have him?? Dudley has also come home with torn up pads, red pads several times. We wrote that off just to hard playing, but with the attitude that we have received lately, I am not so sure. Not a real great way to have front desk staff behave when people are bringing their beloved pets to you and paying you! We will not be back and I wouldn't refer anyone here now. read more

Great training and kennel! We sent our dog for a week of board and train. She learned so much! Because of a family emergency, we had to extend her stay for what wound up being 2 weeks. I went for doggy daycare training. The second day I picked my dog up I didn't get a block down the street because he was crying to go potty. I pulled over and he went potty for S00000000 long it was clear he was not given the opportunity to go and was crated all day, then proceeded to poop. He was sooo thirsty he drank all the water in my glass in the car, licking my fingers in gratitude. RED FLAG. Since he already is potty trained, he must have held it all day. The trainer told me he was brought out 6 times for training. This is after I called and emailed to express concerns. She told me my dog was distracted and fearful due to the busy facility. I'm not buying that since I have an extremely confident puppy, not the cowering type. Also, Then why isn't the potty break the first thing? Six times out of the kennel and one visual potty break admitted by the trainer once for the whole day? unacceptable. Base needs to be met or how are you going to properly train? In addition, the trainers differ day to day without giving report cards or updating at end of day and if you arent there before 5 to talk to one of them, makes it unclear what happened, what your dog learned, how to carry it forward, etc. they want you to pay for a private lesson for that, but where is the accountablility for the trainers...how do we know training even occurred if my dog is not being able to go to the bathroom... recommendation 1 for this facility: REPORT CARDS KEPT DAILY - like the one the owner fills out on dropoff; only geared to training and where each trainer left off. info sheet for the owner to promote that item learned for the day recommendation 2 for this facility and MOST IMPORTANT: give the dog a chance to pee and poop immediately upon exiting the kennel for training throughout the day. recommendation 3: it's unclear if training is going on when it appears your dog hasnt been taken out of the kennel all day to pee; so provide some type of proof or assurance. This is not a positive training/teaching facility; that's a drawback. read more

I can't begin to explain how Astro transformed my dog through training. I was ready to rehome my puppy due to a couple of serious behavioral problems. These trainers worked miracles. Whiskey is training with them at Day Board/ Training with Jessica. Everyone sees the difference in him, although hes an angel already. Whiskey is also Dock Diving with Dean, or learning to be brave and dive off the dock. We can manage the ramp and swim now! He is also becoming more popular. Aside from being the Sugar Tit Moonshine Distillery mascot he is now famous in Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Brusters Ice Cream, and more local places. Folks are amazed at his behavior and we are proud to attribute it to our early training and now the best with Astro's trainers and staff. Considering the attention we all get at Astro we believe they are fairly priced. The staff are all VERY friendly and helpful. Whiskey, Bobby and I, highly recommend Astro Kennels! I am a first time dog owner and was kind of clueless. However I am so thankful to have found Astro! I have taken the beginning and intermediate class and it has helped my 9 month old Carl tremendously is being well behaved. And I can't give enough stars for doggy daycare! After multiple issues and concerns, my dog getting their tail slammed in car door by staff accidentally and coming out with wrong collar and leash was the final straw. I know accidents happen and the sweet girl apologized immensely, however the NEXT time I sent him for daycare I mentioned it to management/lead staff and they literally acted like they didn't hear me. I was the only there to drop off. Common courtesy, acknowledgment and a bit of professionalism would have gone a long way. They lost a loyal customer and I will never recommend this place to anyone who cares about their fur babies. I should have paid attention to the bad reviews. read more

I will not take my dogs back here again. My husband & I left our two dogs for the weekend. Soon after we arrived at home, we noticed one of our dogs was limping. We thought it was from playing too much/rough, so we just touched it to make certain it wasn't a major injury. Upon closer inspection, we realized the bottom paw pad was completely open, as if our dog had been standing on hot pavement. We took him to the ER vet that evening and he was put on antibiotics. Upon returning home, our other dog started vomiting (a couple times before bed, then a few times overnight and several times in the morning). I dropped him off at the vet in the morning and they kept him there all day for observation and informed us he had gastritis which probably was a result of the kennel food. I called AstroKennels twice asking to speak to a manager and waited three days for a return phone call before writing this review. No one called back. They don't care. I wasn't looking for a refund. I just wanted to talk to a manager to know if these problems were observed in-kennel, what food they use, if it was recalled, etc. In addition to these problems, both dogs returned with very itchy & irritated ears. We were supposed to leave to Europe this weekend, but cancelled our plans because we refuse to leave our dogs there again. To add insult to injury, the old blonde woman at the front desk is just rude. She literally asked me "What do you want?" I do not recommend this place at all. I give it five thumbs down. read more

I used Astro Kennels to help me with my Great Dane behavioral issues. They were so awesome! First I went to them to have my dog evaluated, and the facility was clean well kept and the staff was super friendly. Within 10 minutes. Doug had my dog walking on a leash and following his lead without ever saying a word to him. While he was working with my dog he was giving me pointers on what I needed to be doing at home. A few weeks later they came to my home for a training session and it was fantastic! I learned so much and he gave me the tools to train my dog myself. Now my dog is much more well behaved and I have the knowledge to keep working with him. I am so happy I found them! read more

1) We went to Astro after our 2 dogs had a fight. We wanted help training the youngest and also see why they fought. We went once with one dog and then left both of them for the day together so they could be evaluated. I was told that they recorded them and Doug would review and let us know what he thought. That never happened. I called over and over again and never got any feedback. 2) We went out of town for one night and boarded them(first time ever boarding, anywhere). One dog came home coughing and we ended up with 2 sick dogs with kennel cough. 3) We had joined a group class for the youngest and one that I felt needed training, I chose the class that worked with my work schedule and one week they decided to change it to a different time so I was not able to go. Then because of kennel cough we missed another week. So, all together we lost a lot of money and got nothing but sick dogs. read more

As pointed out by multiple people We dropped our dog off for a vacation and when we return to pick her up she was sick. After a trip to the Vet it was confirmed she had kennel cough, it would not be a big deal---I get it, it happens--- but if you look into the comments there are many of us that had the same experience and the owners don't care. Typically use the Astro Kennel on Scuffletown but due too proximity we decided to give the Mauldin location a try. BIG MISTAKE! This was their first time going for a full day (normally do 1-2 half days each week for socialization) and not only did they come home full of energy (not tired at all!! But extremely thirsty which is unusual compared to the other pickups), but oh my do they STINK!! I understand a slight kennel smell but they smell like they laid in urine all day. Never had this issue with Scuffletown...drove home with windows half down (and it was only 50 degrees out) to try and air them out it was so bad! Won't be back to that location again!! read more

STAY AWAY. first off I was going on a long well deserved vacation to key west and was not able to take my to dogs. So I decided I would board them at Astro for about a week. One dog is about 9 and the other a very hyper year old border collie. That being said I wanted them in separate cages. I also wanted some one on one pro training for the pup sit stay lay heel. Nothing fancy. Needless to say the dogs were not put in separate cages and the staff do 0 ZERO training. The owner. Actually told about 3 different lies. I got different stories from every emplyee. It's a shame it's a nice facility. But the issues start at the top with the owner if the owner is not competent the staff will not be. VERY VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. STAY AWAY. oh and for the record my entire bill was paid in advance. Refund = 55 dollars. read more

I had a HORRIBLE experience with these people. I live in Charleston and visit Greenville regularly so I thought I'd found somewhere I could bring Carly on trips. Wrong! After dropping Carly off, I asked what time I could pick her up the next day and only then was I told you must pick her up before noon or else I'd be charged for the next day. I told them that was a huge inconvenience and I'd have to cancel all of my plans and requested to pay a hourly rate seeing as I could pick her up at 2:00 rather than noon. They were so rude and refused to work with me despite risking losing my business. I told them I'd be more than happy to pay a hourly rate for the two extra hours but I felt $29 was ridiculous. Then next time I would be able to plan accordingly now aware of the policy. They told me they wouldn't budge and would make no accommodations or exceptions even at the risk of losing my future business. So in the end I was forced to pay $52 for the 22 hours Carly was there. And when I picked her up and expressed my disappointment... the lady at the desk could not have been more rude and told me, "oh well". On top of that, They forgot my dog's bed and when they brought it out... it was covered in hair that didn't belong to my dog and They had allowed other dogs to sleep on it! Save yourself the headache and board somewhere else. read more

We heard good things about Astro from friends but when we picked up our Golden Retirever after 1 week he reeked and was wet with urine and his hair was matted. Only when I raised a stink did they take him back for a quick bath to satisfy me but he still needed another when we got home. Even after that he still had matting around his ears. In looking around the building there is not even any grass to walk the dogs. I suggest if you trust them with your pet "surprise" them by coming in early to see what condition they are in. Our pets can't tell us what they've been through on their own. read more
