    Crispy garlic chicken

First time coming here and instantly when you enter, the delicious smell hits you, and your mouth starts watering. As soon as I decided what to order, I sat down and it was maybe 5 minutes before the food arrived at the table. The food was hot and fresh and tasty. I wished the fried rice had more flavor but other than that, I thought the food was good.

Lunch special extra spicy beef and broccoli and garlic fried chicken

My friend and I went for lunch here today. Restaurant was clean, food came out quick and staff was super friendly. Paid $1.00 extra to get the hot and sour soup.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, because of the number of people who have used the words "Best Chinese" in their reviews to describe Tai Pei (TP). If this is the best Chinese food you've had, well then: (1) you're insane, and (2) what, not even?, and (3) you must like most of your foodstuffs to be filled with high fructose corn syrup (errm, I mean "corn sugar"). Is the food bad? No. But it's not amazing. TP should never have the superlative "Best" attached to it, unless you're including additional qualifiers like: + "Best... Lunch Value" (because the portions are over the top, and you need to talk to your doctor if you're still hungry after eating one of TP's lunch menu specials). + "Best... Customer Service for a Chinese restaurant in the Bethany/Warr Acres Area" (because they are really friendly, and efficient to boot). + "Best... Illusion of Variety, but They're Really the Same Four Items Mixed/Matched Different Ways" (because Chicken Lo Mein, Garlic Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken, and Sweet & Sour Pork account for almost every item on the lunch menu). Lunch specials are (generally) $6.50 a person and (generally) include two meat options, rice, soup and an egg roll. Pretty good deal, all things considered. If you take the food to go, the soup isn't included. TP's Garlic Chicken is pretty good in all of its deep-fried, state-fair fritter-esque glory. The garlic flavor comes in strong. The egg roll was great the first time I had it, not so much the second time (dunno if the oil was bad, but the flavor was funky). The Hot & Sour Soup lives up to its name for the most part. The Sweet & Sour Chicken (and the Garlic Chicken for that matter) is cornstarch battered out the wazoo, and the included sauce is unpleasantly sweet, like it had some kind of Jolly Rancher-esque candy worked into it. The Sesame Chicken was also really sweet; sweeter than Sesame Chicken I've had elsewhere. Actually, that's kind of the one common theme. Everything has a sweet under (or over) tone. Which is fine for a bit, but becomes increasingly unpleasant as the meal continues. They do provide you with Sambal Oelek when you ask for hot sauce, (which you will need, unless your taste-buds are like that of a toddler). Considering how everything borders on being sickly sweet (outside of the Hot & Sour soup), I feel like TP should have hot sauce ready and waiting on all of the tables from the outset. Good value. Good portions. Standard American-Chinese food. Y'all trippin' with that [*][*][*][*] average though.

Always amazing. Great tangerine chicken and sesame chicken! I loved them in college and keep coming back every time I'm in town.

The food was tasteless I haven't been for a few years but maybe owner ship has changed. Maybe a bad night from the kitchen.

My favorite low-cost, high-quality Chinese restaurant . Nothing fancy but the food is always good and service is great.

I love Chinese food but not when they add spoiled ingredients…read more I popped a little corn cob in my mouth, chewed once and promptly spit it out! SPOILED! The rest of the Szechwan chicken was ok but barely any chicken. Lots of broccoli and old tasting rice. It was almost as heavy when I threw it away as when I bought it. This was their second chance from me. Food FAILED I honestly think they know it too. When I called in my order they said hello. I thought I had wrong number. I called back and they didn't answer. I called a few minutes later and the person picked up and she mumbled something that didn't resemble China First. I asked if it was and she confirmed. Service FAILED

Everything is served super steaming hot here, so be prepared to wait on food to cool some less you scald your mouth. General Tso's breading isn't as crisp here as it often is at other places, since it is swimming in sauce, which I usually dislike..But the sauce had the right balance of spicy and sweet and we all enjoyed it. Spicy shrimp had a good amount of plump, larger-sized shrimp than you usually get elsewhere. Pork lo mein noodles were very oily but had nice flavor with big chunks of bbq pork throughout. We all ate that right up since we didn't have to wait for it to cool. Hot and sour soup was super peppery but yummy with lots of large mushrooms in it. White rice was cooked right. With reasonable menu prices and large portions, we had a nice sized meal for three for only around $20. They don't offer courtesy water, it's $1 a bottle. Woman said reason is because they are all takeout...except that cups are stacked right next to the register, and there are three tables to dine at. They aren't the warmest of folks here, but service was decent enough. I wish they were closer to my house so I can try more of their menu.
