This Tadashi opened as an add on location for the original on west college. So far, I've tried the special rolls and a few different flavors of the Udon. The beef udon was greasy from the meat and while the flavor was good, I wouldn't order it again because of the meat. However, the pork kimchi udon and the chicken udon were delicious and I have gotten those multiple times. It takes a while to be seated here, mostly because of the popularity of the restaurant. I've waited over 30 minutes before. Once seated, the service is fairly slow and the staff don't interact much with the guests. Overall, I'd say they are borderline rude at times, but I'm willing to put up with it because of the food. The sushi is good but the really delicious rolls are any of the special rolls. I wasn't sure what to expect because there are so many mixed reviews for restaurants in town and I think it's because too many people visit and rate places based on a city standard, not a small town standard. This place is maybe a 3 in the city with endless restaurant options but for State College it's excellent. They have affordable and delicious sushi rolls as well as some other Japanese fare. The specialty rolls are pricy but the one we got (Shichimi salmon roll) was absolutely worth it. It was huge, tasty, and very well garnished. My husband and I both agreed that the spicy tuna roll (only about $5) was our favorite for the night- very delicious! It's a pretty casual restaurant that deals mostly with college students so don't expect to be super well attended to. They have a water bottle at the table with cups so you serve yourself. The restaurant is BYOB and we didn't receive any "opening fees" for the drinks we brought. Also, there is now a convenience store with beer and wine right across the street so if you forget a drink, no worries! Just run over there and you'll be set. We were greeted and seated quickly by the hostess who also took our orders. Our food came extremely fast which is nice if you're hungry or just want a quick meal. Not as nice if you're trying to enjoy the evening and meal while taking your time. I felt a bit rushed to eat and pay and leave which isn't great but again, most college students want that so they do good trying to please their main clientele. I was very happy with my trip to Tadashi! The menu had a lot of really good looking items. My party of three settled on tori karaage (spicy fried chicken) and flash fried shishito peppers for appetizers. Both of those were excellent. For entrees, I shared with one other person in my party, and we tried three of the classic rolls (spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and dragon) and one of the signature rolls (seared salmon). I thought all the sushi was good, though the sauce with the dragon roll and the mango on the seared salmon roll were too sweet for my taste. I also didn't find the spicy tuna roll spicy -- we might have been given a plain tuna roll by mistake. The other person in my party had pork kimchi udon for an entree and said it was very good. The service was a good pace. I look forward to coming back and trying more from the menu! read more

I find myself liking the food at this location more than the food at the W college location. My go tos are the pork buns(the chicken ones are also good), the crispy calamari, the passion roll or if I'm feeling simple, shrimp tempura roll. Honestly everything I have ever tried at Tadashi has been really good, its my favorite sushi place and when I go out for sushi back home (Ny/Nj) I often find myself comparing it to this place and this place is usually the winner. Everyone who visits me and I take here always talk about how they cant wait to come back and eat at Tadashi! The only reason I wont give it 5 stars is because although it is my favorite place in State College, the service is just not the best. read more

Place is alright. Looks better than what it tastes. It impresses many people because there are no good food options in this place. It is the most expensive sushi but definitely not worth your money. Service is alright. depends on the day and how big your party is. Orders in person are taken more seriously in terms of allergies than when you order for pickup. I love the new Tadashi location!! It's so much bigger and has a great atmosphere. It's not BYOB which sucks, but the menu at this location is so much better than their original one. They have a more simplified menu, but offer really good options for hot & cold apps, and new sushi rolls!! I've tried the King Salmon Tomato roll and the Chips Sushi roll and they're both amazinggg. I highkey recommend the (cold app) Scallop Carpaccio and the Shumai (hot app) if you're trying the new location for the first time because they really show you how great the chefs are there. The Donburi dishes are good too, my go-to is the Katsu Curry Don because it's on the lighter side for a rich curry, but the serving size is perfect. My comment is not related to food. Their food is good. My concern rather is regarding to their customer service and the seating arrangement during covid. I am immunocompromised individual even wear mask after vaccination. They sit a couple right next to me(elbow touching) while there are plenty of open seats in their diner. It ends up to be a very uncomfortable experience. I gave a small tips because my rather unpleasant dining experience and the waitress glared at me. I had high expectations going into this meal because I love the original Tadashi so much. Although this place was pretty good, I was pretty disappointed. First of all, I was sad to see that they didn't serve ramen here. They do have udon, which is what I got, and it was pretty good but a little too salty. I also think it's a bit overpriced. It was $13 for not that much udon. My boyfriend got the spicy tuna bowl, which was good but extremely overpriced. There were maybe 5 little pieces of tuna and it was mostly rice and other toppings. It was also just a pretty small dish in general. We also got the pork buns, which were good but again overpriced at $8 for just 2 buns. The service was also terrible. The hostess just walked us to our table, left the menus on the table, and left without saying a word, then no one came to take our order for 15 minutes even though they weren't busy at all. I eat at Tadashi with my family every time I visit Penn state. I recommend the restaurant for their great food and reasonable service.

I prefer the new Tadashi over the old one simply because the selection is larger. However, both places offer exquisite sushi and it's always tastes so fresh. At the newer location, their need udon is too die for! Perfect place for date nights! read more

Great service, we were seated quickly and orders were taken promptly. Food was delicious and as good as their other restaurant. The only complaints that I would have is that the music was a bit too loud. And the menu isn't quite as extensive as their other location. An example is that you cannot get ramen at this location they only serve udon. If you liked the other location this one is just as good. read more

The server did not care about our happiness, never checking up with us, never refilling our waters, and never even asking how the food was.
