PORQUEEEEEE????!!! I was hoping this truck was going to stay relatively unknown, but since it's…read morefinally been reviewed by someone, I thought I'd contribute my two cents to back up the claims of greatness. Ironically, this review will probably expose the truck even more, but damn, like most people tell me, I just can't keep my mouth shut! Angelica, or AnHelica, for those of you who roll your "R's" when you say "burrito" or don't say the "H" in Hermosa Beach, is a goddess. That betch make some good food.
For the three years I've lived in the hood, this faithful truck has been at the corner of 5th and Western across from the Imperial Drycleaners. I thought maybe when California Market was closed for renovation, and Koo's Grill (the Korean pancake truck) moved, they would follow suit. But nope, they stuck around! And although they're surrounded by construction fences, they stay put. Come to think of it, I wonder if they've just never been able to get the new parts to get the truck working, because WHY they'd monopolize this specific, highly obscure corner for all this time, I have no idea. But it works for ME, and that's all that matters.
I've tried a ton of things on their menu over three years and it's all really good, but the one thing I always come back to is their LENGUA BURRITO. That's beef tongue burrito. It's a perfect size for one, not as big as a small baby, but not as small as a small penis. And it comes with the radish slices and a jalapeno in a bag. I don't care what your perceptions are of lengua, this will blow you away. But, why should you trust me on this???
Exhibit A: I'm not just a piggy pig pig that eats all meat, I hate duck, I hate goat, I don't like gamey meats, I don't like dark meat on chicken, and fatty parts of meat gross me out. I am Asian though. I don't just like everything, and this lengua burrito is still delicious!
Exhibit B: When my bro visits me from NYC occasionally, he requires that we go directly to any Mexican joint straight from LAX. Other than La Taquiza by USC, he has criticized every place I've taken him, except this truck! He was skeptical about lengua meat (oh New Yorkers) but in 3 minutes devoured the burrito!! I freakin' timed that shit.
The truck also surprisingly has a great selection of "ethnic" drinks as I call them, Jarritos, sugar cane coke, Korean aloe drinks, coconut drinks, stuff I've never seen, and of course your generic American drinks. They also have good packaged dessert items stuffed in the ice box, like arroz con leche and others.
I usually just take my food home, but they do have 5-star buckets and crates sprawled out for you to sit on, like the prince/princess you are. Oh, and like any Mexican food truck, it's super cheap of course! It's one $, not $$ like the description says. Cash only! Oh yeah, and they call themselves a catering truck too FYI.
