No no no....we came here on Tuesday looking for a good place that had taco Tuesday specials and hard shell options. With decent reviews, we decided to check the place out. They're taco Tuesday special was 1.99 for a taco so we got some carne asada, al pastor, shrimp, and chicken (three of them were hard shell). Talk about the BLANDEST carne asada. It was just broiled meat shards. The at pastor tacos tasted old with very little taste to them. The shrimp was so dry!! Now the hard shell was the topper to the disappointment. The shells were store bought! If we wanted that we would have gone to Taco Bell. Man. Only reason I'm adding a star is because the horchata was good and the decoration was neat. This was my first time in this restaurant. They have an amazing menu and warm, friendly service. I wanted to surprise my son with breakfast, so I got a few things for us to try. I got the machaca breakfast plate, chilaquiles and eggs plate, and huevos rancheros plate (each with a choice of 2...beans, rice, potatoes) and salasas and chips to go with it. We had it for a late breakfast and finished it for lunch. My son loved the chilaquiles and I loved the machaca and huevos rancheros. They have breakfast burritos, tortas and many options. I can tell that you get more if you dine in...(plates overflow with sides, plus chips and salsa at the tables). Everything is freshly prepared, so be prepared to wait 15 min+ for food. This part is less spongy, but still tender and chewy. Tripas Tacos - the small intestines of the pork. Chewy like a rubber band. Pescado Tacos - The fish can be hit and miss. Some days it is good and some days it's just plain fishy (haha). Carne Asada Combination Plate - grilled steak served with rice and beans. The carne asada was delicioso and soft, but the rice and beans was so-so. Drinks that we've tried: Horchata - made with rice, cinnamon, and milk. I FREAKING LOVE IT! My parents have been here before and they love their food. So my fiancé and I decided to give this place a try. We came here after the Star Wars 10k run 1/14. We were very hungry and ready to eat! We ordered our food at the front counter. The lady who took our order was very nice. We were given a number to put at our table so the food is brought to you. Free chips are also brought to you. There is a salsa bar. Tried one of the green salsas and it was very good. I ordered a potato, egg, and cheese burrito. Very good and tasted like a homemade burrito made with love. It's big in my opinion. I was very hungry though so I ate the whole thing. My fiancé ordered the chili verde plate. He said it was spicy but very good. Big portions. Great taste. Great service. I FACKIN' love this place. They have the best food - the green Chilaquiles is my go to hangover cure, it' so eggy and delicious! Pair it with a large Jamaica and I am in post-hangover heaven. The restaurant itself is clean, the menu is huge, and there's a great SALSA BAR!!! with all the requisite sauces/salsa/jalapenos/onions. The menu is splayed in all its glory when you step in, and I just stood there like an idiot, salivating at the pictures. Tortas, tostadas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas. Agua frescas and horchata. Omg, the variety is awesome. I especially love that I can order as many tacos as I want instead of being stuck with a set number (I'm talking about you corporate Chipotle!) I ordered a jerky taco and an al pastor taco. The bf got a wet burrito. After a crazyfest at the salsa bar, I dug in. Jerky taco = bad idea conceptually. The thin wide strip of meat was good, but tough to eat in a taco. But the al pastor taco was great. The meat was tender and with a nice kick of spices. I came here optimistically based on the 4 star reviews. I was hoping that this could be "my taco joint". Sorely disappointed. The tacos were overpriced at $2.99 each. They were about the size of my hand, approximately 5 inches in diameter. Too big for street tacos...more like the size of Mission corn tortillas from the supermarket. While the salsa station looked clean...the salsas were all made from canned tomatoes, minus the pico de gallo (which I don't usually put on my tacos). Ugh!!!! Such a disappointment. The pickled jalepeños/onions/carrots were also a disappointment & not spicy at all but had a sweet unsatisfactory note which I didn't like. I was looking for a spicy, sour punch!! The tacos came out quickly but when the waitress handed them to me, there was a distinct funky smell. Don't get me wrong...I am a CARNIVORE!!! The tacos were also visually unappealing despite the bright blue/green platter that they were placed on. The meat was haphazardly laid in dull drab heaps upon flaccid tortillas. They were cut in huge chunks where the unsavory fat pieces were clearly evident. When a "good" piece of meat is properly cooked, the sweet & savory taste of fat is just heavenly & an extra bonus!!! However, when the meat is cheap, it's just chewy, gross, & a nuisance. Needless to say...there were several deposits of said item to my growing pile of napkins. Sorry to be so descriptive. The actual taste of the meat??? Waaaaaaay under-seasoned & bland. After tasting a few pieces, I decided that I would dress it up classically with just diced onions, cilantro, & a generous squeeze of lime. The salsas didn't enhance (or even cover ) the flavor of the meat. I kept squeezing more limes & adding more salsa until my tortillas starting falling apart. I only could stomach 2 tacos. My husband insisted on meeting me for lunch. I tried to dissuade him because the tacos were NOT good. He came anyways. He made no comments...they were unremarkable. Came here for dinner, I ordered the costillas de puerco en salsa quemada. I've had this dish before but I think I might have underestimated the spiciness today. I decided to not eat it and take it home and instead ordered a side of carne asada. The taller of the 2 waitresses that were working went and let the cook know ( I heard her) I ended up waiting for about 20 minutes because they had some to go orders (no big deal, I don't mind waiting) but I decided to check on my order and it was my even started. The cook said she didn't know (she was busy talking to the other waitress( lighter hair) I decided to just get my box for my food that I couldn't eat and left. I felt bad for the nicer girl because she felt bad but I let her know it wasn't her fault because I heard her interaction with the cook. Usually don't have this kind of experience here. My parents are Mexican, I eat a lot of Mexican food so I can honestly say that this is authentic Mexican food and they deliver on this promise time after time. We eat here between 3-4 times a month and though the prices recently went up, we still have no qualms about eating here (well, we don't actually eat THERE, we call in the order and eat at home). Anyway, I usually get the chilaquiles and save half for the next day or the egg torta. They are not as limited on vegetarian options as other places so my baby and I can eat here and try different foods without worrying about them sticking meat in there. Aguas Frescas include watermelon, lemon, strawberry, horchata, jamaica and tamarindo. Also very delicious. Can also get fresh squeezed orange juice.
