They were weirdly hostile with the elderly Asian man in front of me. I am sure it is frustrating to deal with broken English, but it hurt to see, so I can only imagine how he felt. Nothing explicitly was said but I know when someone is acting in away to say unwelcome without saying it directly. Then he asked which salsa was hot. They did answer but he needed more help and clarification. Little did he know he must have exceeded his secret amount of allotted questions because he was still ignored after his repeated attempts. They were standing right there. I have doubts that didn't hear him. I ended up helping him out for them. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I was only picking up food and yet in that short time, wish I could just leave. Yes, their food is good. Lupe's Mexican Eatery has a surprisingly fulfilling array of appetizers, plates, and drinks, though the main draw for me are their stuffed and voluminous burritos. I've tried several of the burritos here for their size, flavour, and variety of ingredients, most memorably the Lupe's, Hot Cheetos, California and birria burritos. The Lupe's is stacked with steak and bacon, grilled onion and cilantro, jack cheddar cheese and Chipotle sauce AND guac, so you'll love it as the mash of distinct savoury flavours it is if you love each of those ingredients. It's filling and fills you with both strength and fatigue to prep for or recover from a day of hard work. 5.7/10. Hot Cheetos burritos are something you occasionally see around for some reason, and the one's here are solid, though I prefer the version available at Primo's by a solid margin. Lupe's Cheeto's burritos do have an interesting compressive texture that I strangely somewhat enjoy. 4.4/10. The California burrito is a standard and very solid rendition of a classic. I would put the Lupe's version at above average in quality as they're definitely not mediocre or disappointing. 5.3/10. The birria burrito is just as packed and filling as the other burritos, but tastes and feels significantly more fresh as it consists of a juicy but light birria steak, red beans, and LOTS of chopped cilantro and diced onions. In fact, it primarily tastes of the leafy green, so definitely avoid it if you're not a fan. I enjoy it, though it definitely feels lighter and less satisfying to eat than its less healthy, heavier siblings, and suffers from its birria juices settling at the bottom of the burrito to be largely untasted throughout the eating experience, possibly as there isn't enough of it provided. 4/10. This spot also has a good salsa bar with particularly tasty sauces. My favorites are the classic verde and another, pale green sauce with a creamy flavour, both of which go well with all meals to varying effect. I like how the tortilla chips feel a bit cakey- it's slightly hard to describe, but they're not excessively salty either and fun to eat as a receptacle for the delicious sauces here. A solid spot with a nice, comfortable and fun, kitsch decorated interior, solid burritos and a solid selection of menu items at fairly standard prices. read more

This spot is so close to my house that I'm a little disappointed I haven't been taking advantage of it being here. Love how easy their online order system is, and service is always great here. The burritos are nice and big, and they aren't shy with the proteins which is nice. Lots of seating inside and outside if you wanted to dine in. They also have a little salsa bar as well. The only thing this salsa bar is missing is cilantro/onion, but that's just me. Definitely my new go-to for when I'm craving Mexican food close to home! read more

The cilantro creamy salsa was really creamy and delicious, I couldn't stop eating it with my chips. The burrito is huge and stuffed with all kinds of items like steak, shrimp, fries. Every bite was amazing with the plump shrimp and juicy steak but I felt like the burrito was 70% fries. The fries were delicious but was hoping to get more shrimp or steak in my bites. This is our second visit to Lupe's chain location. I enjoyed the Luoes in Aliso Viejo so I wanted to try this Lake Forest location that is closer to my home. Overall this dining experience was unremarkable. The indoor dining area is very small. We were having lunch with another couple so I expected a comparable ambiance but this felt much more like fast food dining in close quarters. I ordered a shrimp burrito this time and it wasn't well portioned in protein. I would stick with the tacos next time. This place has my heart! The food here is absolutely delicious and the portion sizes are very respectable. So far I have tried the California burrito, surf and turf burrito and the spicy shrimp tacos. All have been absolutely incredible and I keep coming back for more. The service was pretty quick and you just order at the front when you walk in. Once your order is ready they will call your name for pickup. I've ordered from here many times for my kids but this is the first time that I tried their food myself. I ordered a birria burrito with NO ONIONS. The first bite tasted really good, but second bite tasted like rotting trash. I opened up the burrito and there was a pile of onions in my burrito. Lupe's is located inside a plaza with many other casual restaurants. Parking is easy to find. There's plenty of seating both inside and outside of the store. We ordered the grilled fish tacos online for to-go pick up. The food was done relatively fast and it was an easy process to pick it up from the counter. There's also a salsa station where you can fill up sauce cups with different types of salsas. The tacos were good and fresh, but I think I prefer to get their order protein offerings. Ah! Lupe's was a great stop on the way to my appointment. One of the few restaurants on Bake Pkway within miles. This review is strictly for the California burrito. I often like to leave reviews when California Burritos have all the key ingredients: the steak, the fries, THE GUAC, the sour cream!! It's a basic sized burrito with a higher price, but it's soo good. If you're thinking of coming you should. If their burritos are good I bet the rest of the menu is as well. Lupe's is one of our go to spots for burritos and tacos. Their food portions have always been generous. We have our normal items and they continue to not disappointment. Whenever we run into any order issues, they are always willing to help us resolve them. The shrimp cocktail arrived in what looked like an 8oz cup with just four shrimp--hardly justifiable at $22 after tax. My complaint is, there was MAYBE a sparse sprinkling of steak inside the tortilla, and about 89% soggy Cheetos. I expected a least some other filling but no. Just soggy Cheetos. I've been going to Lupe's and ordering from them for several years now, and I'm almost always very happy with the food. However, my most recent order was disappointing because the guacamole was missing from my chips and guac order. Also, over the past year or so, I've noticed that the quesadillas no longer come with the sides they used to, such as pico de gallo and guacamole, and now only include a small portion of sour cream. Considering the price and portion size of the quesadillas, it would be great to see those original sides brought back. read more

Ordered off uber for a late night meal. I got the asada taco plate and my bf got the Cali burrito. As well got a chicken quesadilla for the next day. I ordered this just tonight, finished my food and am writing this. As I saw the time of closing I do feel bad making them work a bit harder this late for some food but when I say this next. The tacos didn't last long. I'd say 5 min for the 3 tacos and the rice and beans! I loved the flavor! The tortilla tasted fresh as can be! For all the other places I've been trying to go they didn't give me any satisfaction from the flavor! Lupe's did that for me and I am happy to leave a great review for them! AL PASTOR TACO ($4.25) - the al pastor was good but personally I thought it wasn't worth the price, especially if you're comparing it to taco shops closer to the $1-$2 range. 3/5 CALIFORNIA BURRITO ($15.50) - I've heard that Lupe's California burrito was one of the best in OC so I wanted to try it out. I really liked it and my only wish was that it was bigger. 4.5/5 LUPES N' CALI BURRITO ($15.50) - this was like a surf n turf burrito with a California burrito twist with the fries. I liked the shrimp but I preferred the actually California burrito more. 4/5 AL PASTOR FRIES ($16.50) - similar to the taco, I liked the al pastor and the crispiness of the fries but I wish they would've filled up the food to the top of the box. 4/5 The burritos had solid flavors but they were not as big as other burritos I've had in the area. The service was great and there were four sauces at their salsa bar which were all good. This a bit more expensive Mexican franchise, but you be the judge on the price. Personally, i enjoy their shrimp burritos ~$16 as they do not skimp on the shrimp. It is large pieces and not chopped up like other places to disguise how little shrimp they use. Their carne asada is decent, but when I got their al pastor taco it was just burnt pieces so I wasn't a huge fan of that.
