The food is also consistently delicious and the service is consistently friendly and prompt. The atmosphere is upbeat with Mexican music playing. It has an ambiance that creates a comfortable environment sitting and talking with friends or loved ones while enjoying authentic Mexican food. I've noted some of the low reviews and they generally seem to be posted by people traveling through. I can only say I am not originally from Great Falls. I grew up all over the world. I began eating Tex-Mex as an 8 year old in San Antonio, Texas. If that doesn't form a person's palate for what true Tex-Mex tastes like, then nothing will. La Cocina's kitchen staff knows exactly what they're doing and they do a great job. Sure, it might not be as spicy as one might find in San Antonio, but the spices used are exceptionally flavorful and appropriate, especially for Great Falls clientele, which, after all, is the target customer base. If you're as adventurous as I am and just like eating something super spicy, they provide El Yucateco Chile Habanero sauce right at the table! The food is served piping hot every time. This place deserves 5 star reviews all day long. Writing this review has made me hungry. I'm definitely heading back to La Cocina for lunch today.

Your meal comes with complimentary chips and salsa which tasted fresh and the salsa had a nice kick. I ordered the chicken fajitas which came with all the normal sides. Eveything was bountiful but the chicken was tough and the flavors were flat. After the waitress left our meal, she didn't return. We waited so long we asked someone if they could help us get water and the check. They said they would let our waitress know but she still didn't return for a while. If our waitress would have been available I would have asked for some lime. I think the extra acid would have helped add freshness. Still, I would give the place another try as this could have been an off night. Nextime I would plan for earlier in the day and a different entree. I've heard they are known for their tacos.

Since Im just a day visitor to Great Falls, I highly recommend everyone to give this place a try. Their menu is not a typical everyday menu, it's more of a boutique style, daily special menu. So check their website to see what is on the menu during your visit. I didn't try any home made desserts or drinks but I'm sure they were also good to go.

When I travel, I'm usually on one of two quests: finding a town's best old fashioned or tracking…read moredown its best BBQ. In Great Falls, Montana, that second mission is easily accomplished at Smoked. I went all in with the brisket burnt ends, baked beans, coleslaw, and banana pudding for dessert--and every bite confirmed I was exactly where I was supposed to be. The burnt ends were rich, smoky, and indulgent in the best way. The portions were perfectly sized (which I deeply appreciate), leaving room to enjoy everything without feeling overdone. The coleslaw was solid and refreshing, though I couldn't help wishing I'd gone for the spicy version--lesson learned for next time. The baked beans, though? Basic in the most comforting, nostalgic way. They instantly transported me to gathering around a campfire with friends, plates balanced on knees, smoke in the air, and no rush to be anywhere else. And then there was the banana pudding--simple, satisfying, and exactly the sweet ending a great BBQ meal deserves. If you find yourself in Great Falls and craving BBQ that delivers both flavor and feeling, Smoked is the place. This is the kind of spot that reminds you why seeking out local favorites is always worth it.
