Events concluded somewhat early on Saturday and I wanted to make the most of my drive out that way, so I decided to drive a little farther to give Gordo's Way a try. TL;DR -- I'm gonna be making more special trips to Albertville. This restaurant is located on Main Street in Albertville. It's on the corner/end of the street. Street parking is limited but there's a large lot across the street that I took advantage of. They appear to only be open Friday - Sunday so plan accordingly! A few picnic tables are arranged in front of the entrance. The restaurant is small with room for maybe ~25 seats on the inside. You order at the counter. The menu is diverse with a lot of authentic Mexican and Central American dishes. Big focus on birria -- not just tacos, but pizza and ramen too. Service was exceptional! The young woman who greeted me at the counter was so friendly and nice. She immediately caught on it was my first visit and she graciously offered to explain the menu to me. She was exceedingly thorough - more than I truly needed but I didn't mind because she was so sweet - and she knew her stuff! If you're new to this cuisine at all, Gordo's Way would be a great place to explore because the staff will take care of you. They have several containers of aguas frescas, to include cucumber pineapple, horchata, orange pineapple, etc. I knew I wanted one but couldn't pick -- they kindly offered me a sample. The cucumber pineapple was perfect -- delightfully refreshing, not too sweet but not too cucumbery either, and so that was my choice. I ordered two birria tacos with a side of rice and beans to accompany my beverage. This was actually my first time trying birria. I've waited to try it because I wanted to try it somewhere I was confident would do it well -- reviews led me here. I wasn't disappointed. It was delicious: the beef was chewy, savory, succulent, so moist; the onions were crunchy but unobtrusive; the tortilla was thin and crispy; and the consommé for dipping was perfectly umami and surprisingly not insanely messy. The only thing that didn't completely knock my socks off was the rice. It wasn't bad, just kind of standard. The beans were, I think, charro beans -- definitely pintos, not refried. They were smoky and tender. Go out of your way to Gordo's Way -- you will not regret it.

I wish I took pictures of the taquitos as they were almost hollow and seriously overfried and borderline impossible to eat. My companion never complains about food, I would have sent it back. My cheese relino had no cheese in it and ground beef on top then smothered in cheese dip. The combo came with a taco which was fine, but a hard taco is difficult to screw up so I can't give too much credit there. Service as also meh as the same person/manager was seating new customers, checking out tabs at the front, and doing to go orders, which created lines of people at the front door where the register was located. Our server may have new, but was a very polite fish outta water, and it took 25 mins to get food. He did check 3 times while we waited for food to ask if 'you guys are still ok', so I guess there was that. There were plenty of mexican restaurants in the area, I will not try this one again on our next pass through the area.

If I wanted unseasoned meat I would have gone down the road to cracker barrel. I wanted mexican spicy food, hot! I would have even settled for some salt and pepper, but no. We were seated pretty quickly, even though there was a crowd. Our waitress ended up having to cover half of her coworker's section due to an impromptu call out, so everything came out a bit slow. The sports bar atmosphere was buzzing during the crowded weekend dinner rush, but it wasn't overwhelming. Even though the service was a little delayed, nothing came out incorrect or cold, and everything was tasty. I tried the new salted caramel espresso martini, which I was pleasantly surprised by. We also had the buffalo chicken dip as an appetizer. It came with deliciously seasoned chips and was definitely a favorite. We ordered the chicken parm sub and the sampler, which were both good. We also split a cookie dessert. Our waitress was super nice, and the food was great. We even brought home plenty of leftovers.

My husband even said that if he wasn't craving wings so badly, we would have walked out. The bartender seemed more interested in chatting with friends or coworkers on the other side of the bar than serving customers. Eventually, we got our drink order taken, but when I asked for salt on the rim of my beer glass, it took forever to receive it, clearly due to a lack of training on how to properly pour a beer. The food was not only cold but also of poor quality. When we pointed out that our order was incorrect, we were dismissed and told we were mistaken, with the response, "the lighter brown ones are the other sauce." Overall, this experience was incredibly disappointing for a BW3. It's unacceptable and definitely not what we expected. The restaurant is your typical B-Dubs bar layout.
