5.9.26 Fast-casual taco spot serving tacos, burritos, bowls, quesadillas, and breakfast options. I went with the steak and pork taco combo, which came with beans and rice. Overall, everything was flavorful, though the steak was a bit dry. I don't usually have guac on my tacos, but it was a great addition--it added a creamy texture and really elevated the flavor. Seating is limited to an outdoor patio only.

I've been to this Tacos 1986 location a few times now and have always had a good experience. If I want to eat somewhere without waits, have easy ordering and not break my bank - Tacos 1986 is a great option. While eating there recently, a gaggle of girls walking by exclaimed our eats looked delicious! They weren't wrong. Ordering is super simple on an ipad and then they text when your eats are ready. I usually stick with basic tacos when I go and the meat is always flavored well, tasty & fresh veggies, just good quality food. If you want to go basic like Joe Biden did on his infamous Tacos 1986 trip in 2022 with Chicken quesadillas, there is not a thing wrong with that! Do you, the quesadillas are great here. He tipped $44 on this $16 order if you want to be extra like him. I like this Fairfax location as it's right on Beverly Boulevard with some counter style seating facing towards the road. Great for solo dining and looking out on the happenings of the world. They only have outdoor patio seating but it is covered from the elements. Good playlist! I like Tacos 1986 across all their locations and this particular one does not disappoint.

*5-Star Review for Customer Service* Coming back for their employee Ulysses and his phenomenal customer service! He was cheerful, polite, friendly. He cares about the establishment and you can tell that he loves what he does. In between helping me and multiple walk in customers he was also ensuring the salsa bar was in good shape for a lunch rush. He found a way to make us all feel welcomed. I ordered for pick up and everything was packed and ready to go by the time I got there. You get a variety of different sauces at their self serve salsa bar, including your traditional, cut up cucumbers and radishes. Don't forget the limes. The interior is rather small only for ordering and picking up, but they do have exterior patio where you're welcome to sit and dine. As for the food, I absolutely enjoyed the two Asada quesadillas. Ordered it with all the toppings and on house-made flour tortillas. If you get the combo, it comes with a drink and a side of rice and beans, I wasn't a fan of the rice. It was too dry and the beans lacked in flavor. I would opt for three quesadillas next time and no sides. If you come here, it's only right to do one of their agua Fresca's. They offer lemonade Horchata or Jamaica, all of them are super fresh and I appreciate that they are refrigerated and bottled up in to-go containers. Also ordered their breakfast burrito w/steak. It reminded me of home - and how lovely is it to get reminded of that on a rainy day. Thanks, Ulysses and the team at tacos 1986 you guys made for a great lunch experience!

This was my fourth or fifth time visiting this taco place, and after all these visits, I've finally decided to share a review. The very first time I came here, the experience was fantastic. The flavors were vibrant, the ingredients were fresh, and everything just felt perfect. The second time, it was still good, but there was a slight dip in quality. By the third visit, I noticed more inconsistencies, and now, after this last visit, I feel it's important to write a balanced review. The taco place is a small gem tucked along a busy street. Because of its prime location, parking is a real challenge. There are only about five or six spots behind the restaurant, and when it gets crowded, it's a struggle to secure a spot. During the day, if street parking, you have to pay for parking, adding another hassle. On the night I visited, around 9 p.m., it was incredibly busy. When I finally got inside, I ordered tacos along with a horchata. I wanted to swap the corn tortillas for flour ones, but the online kiosk made it really hard to do. I had to go inside and request the change directly. The staff was working incredibly hard; you could see they were overwhelmed by the number of customers. Even though they were fast and clearly skilled, the sheer volume of orders meant I waited about 20 minutes for my two tacos. Unfortunately, when they arrived, they didn't taste as good as they used to. Reflecting on my first visit, the food was exceptional, but over the past two or three times, I noticed a decline in quality. The overcrowding and the limited staff really seem to be taking a toll on the food. I was also surprised by how they serve horchata only in bottled form. It's pretty expensive for such a small portion, and I wish they offered a freshly made aguas frescas option, like many other taco spots in LA. To be honest, this might be the last time I come here for a while. Between the parking frustrations, the long wait, and the price, I feel like the value just isn't keeping up. I want to give a shoutout to the staff, though, they're hardworking, fast, and resilient, even under the stress. I also used the restroom, and I have to say, there's only one bathroom, and it wasn't clean. I get it, rush hour means staff is stretched thin, but it was disappointing. In short, I had such high hopes for this place, but the recent visits haven't lived up to that initial spark. I hope they take some time to address the parking, the wait times, and the consistency, because when they're at their best, the tacos are truly wo

I've been going to Tacos 1986 for over five years now, and honestly, this spot has earned its place in my regular rotation. I first discovered them at the beginning of the pandemic when I was looking for keto friendly options, and that cheese tortilla absolutely changed the game for me. Ever since then, it's been consistent, crave worthy, and reliable in that way where you already know it's going to hit before you even take the first bite. The TJ style vibes, the bold flavors, the vampiros, mulitas, and that al pastor just do not miss. I also appreciate that they've evolved over the years with combos and a smoother ordering process. The self order machine was actually pretty cool, service was fast this visit, prices are reasonable, and while the drinks are nothing to write home about, the food more than makes up for it. The salsas alone are worth the trip. That said, I do want to be real, because I care about this place and I want it to stay great. I'm not a fan of businesses starting full cleanup mode while customers are still eating. It slightly kills the vibe when trash cans are out of service and you're holding onto trash because the bags are already pulled. Not a dealbreaker, just annoying. What did bother me though, and this is something I feel the owner should genuinely address, was seeing a staff member handling the al pastor spit and later lemons and cucumbers with bare hands after sweeping and dealing with trash during closing. My family and I all saw it, and it was one of those moments where your appetite pauses for a second. I know it was close to closing time, but food handling standards should still be tight, especially at a place people trust and return to over and over. All that said, I'm still coming back. That's how much I love the food. This review isn't meant to drag the place, it's meant to flag something important so it can be corrected. Tacos 1986 is special, it's nostalgic, it's comforting, and when it's on, it's so on. I just hope management takes small operational details seriously, because with a few adjustments, this place stays untouchable.

The food and service here is amazing !! I love coming here with my husband for taco nights. We drive from Echo park because this is our preferred location although the DTLA location is closer. I just tried the mushroom tacos not too long ago for the first time and now they're my new favorites.

I got 2 mulitas and 1 vampiro with a side of rice and beans. They were both good! The vampiro was the best out of the 2. Tacos 1986 reminded me of tacos from Tijuana. That's how good the food was. The service was good and the ambiance wasn't all that considering I went at 10 pm.

Ulysses and Delvin (the chef) were fantastic and very friendly. Also the music was really nice playing outside. They had the salsas bar set up and well stocked. Oh did I mention the chicken quesadilla was amazing!10/10 recommend this location. I'm surprised they don't have higher reviews honestly.

Went there for vegan tacos on a Tuesday. The ambiance is decent, and the service is excellent. The food was amazing--my only complaint is that the buy-one-get-one taco deal on Tuesdays applies only to chicken and pork options, not the vegan one. Overall, it was a great experience.

Ordered catering yesterday and they forgot the plates, utensils, and the tortillas weren't cooked. The tortillas were very moist and don't have any brown grill marks. It was also unclear if the beans or tortillas were made with lard. For the vegetarians, I hope they add a little caption that says made with lard or vegetarian. I had the chips which were the tortillas fried, then two tortillas (possibly raw), rice, beans, guacamole, onions, and the two salsas. Needless to say, food went through me and I'm sick.

Originally posted on IG 9/12/24 Taco No. 2 from the @latimesfood 101 Best Tacos in Los Angeles- @tacos1986la l've been to the location in Pasadena but did not know about the Perron (off menu) taco, one of @danielledorky 's entries on the list. Whoa. It was fantastic. Flour tortilla, choice of meat (she suggests carne asada which was phenomenal), pinto beans, guacamole, jack cheese, onions, cilantro, and salsa. Sooo00oo yum. I also took the bait and ordered their house made agua de Jamaica. It was perfect. So many places over sweeten their Jamaica but not Tacos 1986. I will definitely put this place into my rotation!! Of course, not until after I try the rest of the tacos on the list-99 to go!!

Al pastor taco, Al pastor quesadilla, and asada taco
Andrew Y.

Small inside, but fair amount of seating outside. Service is fairly quick I ordered a taco al pastor, carne asada taco, and an al pastor quesadilla, with each being around $4 or a little over $4. In my opinion, the Al pastor tasted better and I'd highly recommend it as it was delicious. No pineapple though. Meat was tender and juicy, and the cheese on the quesadilla made it even better Overall, I'd give it an 8.75/10. Delicious meal, but might be a little on the pricey side since I feel like I could've eaten at least 5 tacos/quesadillas to be full, which would run me over $20.

The first time I went on a weekday in the middle of the day, so it was super empty and not the best because nothing was being made fresh- the meats and potatoes were kind of just sitting in bins so although the flavor was there, the cooled down temperatures really affected the taste. HOWEVER, I visited a few more times after that, these times all late at night, which really turned my experience around. I think at those times there were a lot more people and long lines, so everything was being made fresh and it being hot just made the food taste so so much better. I love how the toppings are all self-serve, and the hot potato is my favorite side. Carne asada, lengua, and al pastor are my go-tos. You'll want to add hellaaa green sauce to everything- I could literally drink that stuff straight. Love the big easy parking lot here, I'll mention that I saw a few security people checking all the cars and plates so I wouldn't recommend trying to park here and walk somewhere else!

For for first timers, I'd recommend ordering the Villa's Trio which is what I got. Those come with the Ranchera Asada quesotaco as well as the Papas con Chorizo and Black Bean con Pollo quesotacos which are a trio exclusive. All the tacos were meaty, flavorful, and crispy. You honestly don't even need the side sauces since the tacos are already flavorful on their own. Great quality. I also got the Watermelon Agua Fresca which was refreshing, tasty, and sweet. Goes well with the tacos. I also got the Jamaica Agua Fresca, but that one was a bit too tart for my liking. The line can get long, so I would prepare to wait for up to an hour on weekends. There's ample free parking at the grocery store lot nearby. For seating and tables, it's limited and competitive. You just have to get lucky if a spot clears up as soon as you get your food. I also like how the restaurant handles crowd control. They allow a couple of people at a time to go inside, order, and get their condiments. You wait outside until they call you for your food. I like that it didn't feel crowded while I was getting my condiments. I highly recommend this spot and I will definitely be coming back.

Having been to so many taco stands, I think what makes Tire Shop Taqueria really stand out are the right-off-the-grill charcoal-grilled meats, the freshly made tortillas literally in front of you as you are waiting on line, and the free guacamole that comes with each taco. The ordering process is like any other taco stand, though one difference is here the salsas/guacamole are all handled by the staff. If you'd like more of something, just ask them instead of reaching for the ladle yourself. There is a separate area though for grilled onions/peppers and radishes you can serve yourself. I got the asada, chorizo, cabeza, and al pastor, and they were all so good. The asada and chorizo are specifically grilled over charcoal, and that flavor really shines through. I loved how meaty and tender the cabeza was too, and the classic al pastor hit the spot. They have large communal tables setup, so it is a great friendly vibe to enjoy your meal I will say, the surrounding area is not the best in LA, especially given how the taco stand is only open at night. The parking lot is quite small, so I parked on a side street that had some abandoned cars, but of course, if you are in/from LA, this is not that new for us. I would hesitate if I am a tourist though to make it out here. Anyhow, the food really is worth it here, and I can't wait to be back!

The al pastor, I think uses a fattier cut than some other places but keeps it from drying out. The tacos were leaking meat juices still. The surrounding streets are quite dark at night but the parking lot the stand is in, is well lit and there is a covered seating area. The asada was okay and better than the tripa, but it paled in comparison to our go-to taco trucks in the area which only costs $1. And the tripa was strange to eat in taco form. The tripa is crunchy small pieces so it just feels odd to eat in a taco. Maybe if it was just served as an appetizer to eat by itself, but even then, it kinda just feels like you're eating pellets. Don't see the hype unfortunately.
