I love Japanese curry, and was so stoked to see such a unique curry on the menu (made with dark chocolate so it gives a richer flavor). $5 more to add shredded cabbage and miso soup; I definitely think this is worth it because there's no other fresh greens in the entree. It helps cut the heavy, fried-ness of the katsu and provides a different texture. My shrimp (ebi) katsu curry was so flaky and crispy, which is so hard to find at katsu shops where the breading is cakey and falls off the protein. However, the shrimp to flakes ratio was off and I could hardly taste the shrimp or know when I bit shrimp versus the flakes because there was so much breading. This wasn't a problem for the pork katsu, though! The portion size is massive; half the plate is rice, and the other half is the curry. For $29 for the shrimp katsu ($34 total pre tax and tip after adding the shredded cabbage and miso soup combo), I think it's worth the price if you're starving or sharing. I think it'd be cool if they did a protein combo where you pick two proteins, especially because they have a variety of pork options. This would help people justify their cost while tasting more of the menu with less overwhelming commitment. Servers are kind and attentive, and they don't rush you when you order or need more time. It is one of my son's favorite spots so when the evening arrived, we got to the restaurant only to be led to a table that seated 6 in one corner and 4 kitty corner from that table. So...a family gathering had to be split, with 4 of us not even being at the same table as my son-including me. Mom. And in order to be close to him I sat with my back turned from him. I approached someone about it-not sure if he's the manager or not but he was very apologetic about it and said that they don't have seating for 10 at one table. But they tried their best by putting us all in the corner together. Not the same thing unfortunately as we could not all celebrate or converse all together. I told him that I had called specifically asking if they could accommodate 10 and I was assured they could but I did not know I had to ask "at the same table?". So let me say I was very upset that the tip was included because really, no one served us unless we asked for more things. No one checked on us. Then I had to go and find someone so we could pay our bill. They apologized again for not seating us together but what could I say at that point? I'm not going to make a scene but it ruined a special night when all of the family couldn't sit together. But the workers said we can do takeout and enjoy our food on the picnic tables. There wasn't much parking in the lot, so we had to find street parking in the neighborhood. For three of us, we shared two pizzas and a side. We got the everyday I'm truffling pizza and the hot honey pepperoni pizza. I loved the thinly sliced potatoes on the truffle pizza, and the hot honey pizza was a good classic. It wasn't too spicy for me. The pizza boxes were also super cute and fun. We also got the burrata, and this is one of the best appetizers I've had. The bread was good, and the smoothness of the burrata was unmatched. I would definitely recommend making the drive out to Spark Pizza and trying their burrata!
