Ordered the bistec tacos and a full baked potato. The tacos were on the dry side, definitely not what you get in Mexico. But the potato is fantastic... loaded with cheese and butter. The bean soup they bring to you was also good. One negative thing is if you want a glass of water. The water cup is like 6 ounces, and there is no water option at the soft drink machine. You have to ask them behind the counter to give you more water.

    Chicken tacos with green salsa.

Food at any Taco Rico is fantastic. The service I've gotten has been A1 every time. A full order of 6 street tacos is about $8.something with tax included, which is great if you're hungry. Ambiance is super homey. It felt welcoming overall

Visiting for work and a coworker sent me to El Rodeo to get tripas tacos but they were closed. Headed back to hotel and found Taco Rico and checked it out. Looked like a fast food drive thru type place. Surprisingly they have tacos tripas on the menu. The full order is 6 tacos but they have a half order which I got. FANTASTIC! So crispy and delicious and tortillas were fresh. Loved them and recommend this to all tripa lovers.

Very tasty tacos... Had the steak on corn. Great flavor. Interesting thing to me was getting a fully loaded potato with it for the side. Never seen that at a taco place before but good. Also came with beans...

They had this at the counter.

From the outside, the place looks like a typical fast food franchise, not to mention the fact its located right next to a McDonalds. You walk in and you get that "neighborhood" feeling. It's a sunday afternoon and the place has plenty of people inside and the staff are working hard to keep things going. Now, take note Mexican cuisine is a new frontier to me. I just recently discovered that the hard taco and american/chipotle burrito is not the same as the standard burrito. In fact, what I've noticed is that I rarely see the word "burrito" in most menus in the "Valley." I come up to the counter and I'm still not sure what to get, so I decide to go with what I observe to be the norm which is a taco combo. Soft corn tacos, a soda, and baked potato for $7.99 (plus tax). They take your order, then they bring the order to you. A slight side step from "fast food", but I would lke to think this means they are preparing the food as ordered which I find reassuring. I take my drink in the form of a styrofoam cup and find a table. A bustling lady roams the room carrying and order and yelps out the order number in spanish. Another one goes and offers a free side dish of bean soup. I found the bean soup quite tasty, and if you forgive the nostalgia...it makes me think of cowboys on the range having a meal. Taste: The tacos got the job done, though I found the meats a little on the dry side ( I chose chicken and pork). However they had two sauce bottle close by, the wonderful green sauce and red sauce. I did make the mistake of getting "everything" on the baked potato which included butter and sour cream. I recommend choosing one or the other. On the dessert menu, they have choco flan which is something I recently discovered and will have to try on my next visit, as well as the other dishes.

People that don't listen to customers orders ruins the whole meal.

A Hidden Gem for Mexican Seafood -- Don't Sleep on This Place!…read more As a traveler from California in town for a swim meet, I was on the hunt for good Mexican seafood and stumbled upon La Costa Grill. Based on the reviews, I had decent expectations -- but this place blew them out of the water. The ratings honestly don't do it justice. From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was warm and genuine. We were greeted by the hostess and seated right away, even during the lunch rush. Then came a wonderful surprise: our server brought out a mini skillet of the most incredible black refried beans for dipping, alongside four salsas ranging from mild to hot, all served with tostadas -- compliments of the house. Back in California, you're lucky to get one salsa, let alone refried beans as a free starter. It immediately set the tone for the meal. Our server was knowledgeable and genuinely helpful with recommendations. We ended up sharing a lunch portion of paella, an octopus taco, and a fish ceviche tostada -- and every single dish delivered. The octopus taco was a standout; served over a layer of refried beans, it was a flavor combination I didn't know I needed. The ceviche tostada was fresh and bright, and the paella was satisfying and well-seasoned. I also have to give our server extra credit for her transparency -- she mentioned upfront that the paella leans heavier on rice than seafood. That kind of honesty is rare and really appreciated. We ordered it anyway, and we were glad we did. If you're visiting McAllen and want authentic, flavorful Mexican seafood with outstanding service and hospitality, La Costa Grill needs to be on your list. I'll absolutely be returning before I head back home.

Otherwise, the "tamales" in the DC area are so MID. The tamales around here are of the Central American variety and, they're fine. But sometime they're steamed in a square shape and wrapped in a banana leaf. Of if you can find an "authentic" Mexican style tamale wrapped in a corn husk, they're something off about the Masa to filling ratio as well as the flavor profile with the DC versions often being too sweet requiring them to be drenched in some type of sauce. That's why when I'm back in TX, I load up on bbq and tamales. I was told by all the locals in the greater McAllen / Edinburg area that Delia's makes the best tamales...and they were right! Delia's is a local chain with outposts around the Rio Grande Valley. I visited a few of them, and they're all quite similar. The interior is more reminiscent of 1990's style fast food with basic plastic booths with a few older style tables/chairs. The lightning is dim florescent, with muted dull color tones. But you're here for the food, not the decor. I ordered six of the spicy pork and six of the bean/cheese/jalapeno flavors. Awww man, can I tell you...these were ah-mazing! They arrived wrapped in foil and steaming hot. Unwrap each one, and the texture of the masa is soft without being mushy. And the filling of the meat as well as the veggie varieties are perfectly spiced without being overly salty. Do yourself a favor and get the "green salsa." It's a mix of guac and salsa Verde. All you have to know, is the green salsa pairs so well with the tamales. Just kind of bummed that post-COVID, the self-service salsa bar is now closed. I asked one of the employees about this, and she mentioned it's highly unlikely it will ever return. I obviously couldn't eat all 12 in one sitting, so I took the majority back to the hotel, where I enjoyed them for lunch over the next few days. I even stopped in here before my flight back to DC and immediately froze a bunch for reheating in the next few months. Fast friendly service, and loved how there was a lady out in the dining room, demonstrating the art of working the masa, and then individually filling and then wrapping each tamale...by HAND! I was sure to drop in a few bucks in the tip jar, since you should acknowledge all the work required to produce a quality product at such affordable prices.
