Don't ever buy a gift card here. Six months or so after I bought a $100 gift card it "expired" and they wouldn't let me use it, which is illegal. By law gift cards are not allowed to expire in Illinois. I tried a few more times to use it and the staff just said it was expired. I am only in town a few times a year and didn't have time to argue about it. I finally went in and insisted they call the manager. Wasted 25 minutes of my time to get it straightened out. They said the card expired because they switched to a different system. The manager claimed this is the first time they've heard of this problem. How convenient, they take your money then a few months later switch to a new gift card system that invalidates your card and they don't let you redeem it. Instead of transferring your credits to the new system, they just tell the staff not to accept "expired" gift cards. How many customer's gift card money did Taco Maya keep, because who has time to call a manager and deal with the runaround? Shady! read more

Omg so yummy. Perfect late night spot. Tacos run about 5-6 bucks and their corn tortillas are so flavorful. The staff is friendly and service was quick. I enjoyed the Nashville Hot chicken, Cajun shrimp, and Chicken Tinga. I did not enjoy the Korean beef as much as I expected. Visiting Chicago for the weekend I wanted to try something new and Taco Mayo was close to the hotel and easy accessible late at night . Taco Maya is a delicious fast casual/order at the counter kind of restaurant. We stopped by after walking around the area and was wonderfully surprised at how delicious our food was! The staff here were so nice and checked in on us to make sure everything was good! I had the grilled steak tacos and an order of the elotes. This location is the worst. 2 stars because the signature taco flavor always slaps, but we've given them 3 chances and they just don't match south loop location. For starters: 1. They upcharge everything- in store and especially on food delivery apps. We're talking a whole $3 difference for their queso online vs in store 2. I am so glad I got myself to give this a go!! Best tacos I've had in a while. We arrived and appreciated the plentiful seating both inside and out. This can easily accommodate patrons even during a rush. The menu was updated to add a few fusion style tacos and I was very excited to try the samosa tacos. I also got the Nashville Hot Cauliflower Taco and added a basket of fries! I couldn't even stop to breathe! The tacos were very flavorful and the taco held up to the last bite. The tortilla chips were warm and delicious and the toasted salsa was insanely delicious. I almost did it all over again after I finished! Paneer tacos oh my god what an amazing idea. Very flavorful and tastes great. Open late so this was a blessing to find close to my hotel after many flights delays and flight diversions. I also got the Nashville hot cauliflower taco which was also really good - I didn't see this on the menu but the man at the counter was listing off the veggie taco options for me when I asked. I ordered delivery on Uber Eats. Overall, it was really good. The meat wasn't too dry on the tacos. I liked the Fiesta Cup Refried Beans. It's a clever way to be eco-friendly and not use a mini plastic cup. However, I do have one complaint. The queso and chips are about $12. The salsa and chips are about $5. They come with the same amount of chips. For $12, I expected it to be fantastic queso. It's worth maybe $4. It's very liquidy and pretty bland. And I like bland... so if I think it's bland, then that's very bland. For the churros, I wish they didn't have the filling on the inside. I also wish there was more sugar/cinnamon on them. Taco Maya is local gem for street tacos with a little international flair. I just learned that they are expanding to their 10th location. But I've only been to the Ohio St locale for dining in. For me it's all about options, flour taco shells and a good a** horchata. Taco Maya has all three. I have my staple the grilled steak but each visit I have attempted to test my palate. On my most recent visit a special event for Yelpers I sampled the pork belly. Hmm hmm good. The flavor and texture were just perfect. A little sweet with a lot of savory after bites. Everything is cooked fresh to order but the wait is never too long. The staff are always so friendly. I've had the pleasure to dine in 2x and pick up take out a few more. Did I say I love their Horchata? No really the first time I dined in I thought they may say "ma'am there are no unlimited refills. " It was that good. Parking is street meter if lucky to grab a spot but if on foot it is a short distance from public transportation on Clark or State streets at Ohio. Give this place some more time to work out their kinks and attitude, but until then just know what you're getting into. Living in River North I've come to expect overpriced food, but being a "fast casual" restaurant I was a bit shocked at what this cost given the size and quality. The amount of chips in the chips and guac order was enough for a toddler. I was actually a bit surprised but I guess I'm used to Supersize Me portions. My burrito came incorrect, no big deal, but when we went to get it corrected the staff seemed offended. It was the same lady that took our order so maybe she took it personally, but I shouldn't be made to feel badly if my order came out wrong.
