Calamari taco: the calamari was overdone. The batter was SUPER crunchy. I think that is why the actual meat was overdone. The chipotle mayo was bommmb! It's spicy! Didn't even use salsa. This taco was supposed to have mango pico de Gallo, but they left it out. Cajun spice shrimp taco: The spice on the shrimp was strong and a tad salty; however, the mango pico de Gallo that was on this taco cut through the saltiness. With the addition of the tomatoes, you get a little bit of sweetness, acidity, and saltiness. It's a pretty good combination. Just wish it wasn't as soggy. When you take a bite, a bunch of juice leaks out the other end. It's pretty pricey here. $4.50 for the calmari and I believe $4 (don't quote me on that one) I wouldn't go here regularly though, maybe every now and then. They also have a mini salsa bar. The search for a good Taco continues. We were trying to decide on what to have for dinner and decided on Mexican food. We came across the reviews for Taco Maya. I ordered a dinner with 3 tacos Al Pastor and side of rice and beans. My wife ordered a steak torta and a side of elote, corn. It's not Mexican if it doesn't have Al Pastor on the menu. That's just my opinion. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the spot for me. The meat may have been a bit over seasoned. I didn't see nor taste pineapple. I did see caramelized onions. The tacos were doubled up on tortilla as they should be. I ordered mine with cebolla and cilantro. The onions were actually caramelized and may have taken away from the freshness of the onion and cilantro. The side of beans came in a purple corn crunchy tortilla. The rice was okay. The presentation of the beans was very appealing. It was different. You can't have a good taco without a good salsa. Let me tell you that I had a variety to choose from. I walked in to pick up my order and the cashier showed me the salsa station. How could I resist! Normally you just get 2 red salsas and 1 green salsa. They had an avocado salsa, traditional green salsa, chipotle salsa, jalapeño salsa and chipotle salsa. The salsas went well with my tacos. I think the tacos are just lacking a little in size and/or filling. A bigger tortilla and a tad more filling? Perhaps this is possible if you keep take out on tacos to parchment paper, I think that's what it's called. Perhaps saving the brown container to patrons that sit in for a meal, as a take out container. Even out the cost. Just a thought. My tacos were on the regular Taco section, $2.69, of the menu. There is a separate Specialty Taco section but if I'm paying more than $3 dollars for a taco, I hope they're a good size. The place itself is clean and different. It does appear that they have much more to offer. It just had it's pros and cons tonight. I would still encourage others in the area to check it out and form their own opinion. read more

A tiny, unassuming taco place in a strip center. I decided to stop in because I was in the area and in a rush, and didn't feel like going to Subway. What an excellent discovery. Ordered a couple of carnitas tacos. Truly exquisite. Perfectly prepared and seasoned. As good as the tacos were, they were outshined by the homemade chips and salsa. The shop does a lot of takeout business. Just a few tables with cheap metal chairs. This place is a long way from my house, in an area I rarely visit, others I'd be here several times a week. I had been wanting to try this place for a while now and it didn't disappoint. I got two shrimp tacos (the shrimp is under all the greens) and it was very good! Yummy horchata, and I really like that you can grab as much salsa as you want. The green one and avocado ones were flavorful. I admit to being spoiled by decades of living in San Diego but this is the first taco spot I have found in IL that would stand a chance in Southern CA. Ended up at this spot after picking some people up at ORD and needed somewhere that meat eaters and vegans could both be happy. I had a shrimp taco and a cauliflower taco + a horchata. YUM! My second attempt at trying these tacos.. First order was delivery pre-covid and while they didn't get my order right and we felt everything was 'ok' but not crazy good, I decided to give them another chance. Yesterday we ordered delivery again (Grubhub) and our experience was similar to our first. The good: Food arrived on-time. The not so good: My tacos were missing cheese and I selected the "American" topping which includes cheese, lettuce, tomatoes. I only received lettuce. I also requested a barbacoa taco for my 3 taco dinner and what I received was not barbacoa. Tasted like pork but I'll just refer to it as 'mystery meat'. Side of sour cream was missing from order. I understand that take out/delivery orders are not the same as dining in and that food may not be as warm as I like. I'm not discounting them for lukewarm food, but each taco meat was dry. Corn tortillas were semi hard and didn't taste freshly made. Steak tacos were bland and flavorless and I say this without having any sauce or topping other than lettuce...so I had full meat on flavor with each bite. Ground beef was dry and tasted like a seasoning packet was used for flavor. Yucatan (shrimp & chorizo) taco was actually good if not salty, but I'll credit that to the chorizo. He enjoyed his Chicken Tinga the most; flavorful & moist. Rice and beans were average. It's rare if I order dessert, but I decided to treat myself to some churros and they were ok..a few bites left an oily aftertaste. This is a hard time for restaurants in general, so while I would've left a 2 star review, I'll leave it at 3 and hope they improve. There's a lot of glowing reviews here, but I didn't have the same experience, not once but twice. Is it possible the food is better dining in? Well, it would be warmer for sure, but the dryness & flavor of the meat is something that shouldn't be effected. Getting the timing down for take out orders needs work in addition to more attention to order details.. If I'm being honest, I'm baffled by all the 4 & 5 star reviews.. read more

As good as it gets! A gem in the Bloomingdale area on Lake street. Went there on a friday and there was a steady stream of people coming in for dine in or picking up food. This cuisine is a must try for everyone! They have a very friendly menu for all groups. My go-to is the "Signature" Tacos. Unbelievable quality and taste, sold at a bargain. If you're nearby, I highly recommend making this your new Mexican cuisine eatery. They also have a salsa bar that is quality and offers multiple levels of heat. My family and I love stopping at Taco Maya! Deep and the guys always greet us with a huge smile and they remember what we love to order. My son absolutely loves their Horchata! Came here with a friend on Friday night and it was packed! We ordered our food and found a table. The food was out pretty quickly considering how many people were dinning in. I ordered a steak taco salad, Chile relleno taco, and paneer taco. The salad was the best thing ever!! Steak was juicy and seasoned well. The Chile relleno and paneer were disappointing though. The Chile relleno tasted weird like almost sweet and the panned was dry. My friend ordered the 3 taco dinner: chicken, carnitas and al pastor. Her favorite was the al pastor and the other meats were dry. The rice tasted like frozen rice out of a package. Not authentic at all. They have a lot on their menu. I had to give them three stars because I ordered steak nachos and tinga nachos to go off of Chow. But when I got home the steak nachos DIDNT have steak. In addition, my order was supposed to be done by 6:58 pm. I walked in on a Sunday at 6:55 I had to wait in line for my order that was sitting on the counter until 7:05 because they couldn't get the line together. There were only 4 people in front of me. My suggestion is to have a pick up ONLY line. I shouldn't have to wait in line with people ordering food while my order sits. 3 stars for forgetting the most important part of my nachos. read more

This place has some really decent tacos (flavor-wise, I still think Panchos in Schaumburg is the best in our area). These are interesting because of the pickled red onion they add, which tastes so good on any taco I've had thus far from here. They go a bit light on the cheese, however, and that's one of my favorite parts on the Mexican-style tacos. Next, Maya offers the best salsas I've ever tasted, no joke; the creamy jalapeño salsa is noted as "hot," but it's really not; it's so flavorful and salty in all the right ways, I can (and DID) drink it straight, like a Michelin-starred restaurant featuring a salsa tasting, haha... The chimichurri-style avocado salsa is divine too and all I can say is "Bottle them up!" So yeah, almost perfect, but the pricing?- something just seems... really off. They sell a taco for $3.25 each, but the 3-taco plate is $14(!!!) and the only discernible difference between that and 3 tacos ordered individually for $9.75 -- a $5.25 difference -- is rice and/or beans? Hmm. A cheese quesadilla is $9.00 here, LOL... that's more than an entire burrito bowl at Chipotle! We also added two elotes ($5/ea.) to our order and it was good, but not $5-each-good. The corn (likely previously frozen) was slathered in mayonnaise and sprinkled with cheese, but not roasted, which is what "makes" elotes good. This was disappointing since it should have been (A) cheaper and/or (B) roasted. Otherwise, I think they'll only be able to improve the already-good things here, but should pay close attention to their price points (tacos shouldn't cost twice as much as a great dinner from Portillos for two people). read more

I was looking for a place to meet up with a coworker, and Taco Maya seemed to fit the bill of being close to Chicago O'Hare, having indoor and outdoor dining, accepting our corporate American Express card, being in a reasonable price range, and having awesome looking food. We were not disappointed with the experience. I chose Korean BBQ, pork belly, and birria as my tacos, while my coworker chose shrimp tempura, and seared tuna. I liked the pork belly taco the most, and he liked shrimp tempura the most. In hindsight, we decided that we should have skipped the free chips, and gotten an extra taco or two each. All five tacos were unique from anything either one of us have had, an excellent. There was a great salsa bar to spice things up, and I enjoyed the avocado salsa and pickled veggies with my tacos. Such a great and sort of secret taco spot in Roselle. I have yet to get a so so taco or any dish. Carryout works fine and I love their special tacos! They had a birria taco which I tried for the first time and LOVED it! The staff is nice and I'm not sure where the paneer inspiration comes from but that the only regular fusion type of food they have. The rest is pretty genuine and again try the specials...those are fusion type tacos and awesome. Great guacamole and really good in house made chips are what defeat my good intentions for healthy eating every time. Each salsa is different too. I love the green chile smooth one that deceptively looks like guacamole. For the level of freshness I would say that the price is right. Really helpful staff and lots of parking. read more

It was a Tuesday so I took advantage of their special and scored a free third taco with the purchase of two tacos. I went with a taco plate which adds on beans and rice because, why not? The tacos I chose were as follows: Signature (steak, bacon, pineapple, onion, cheese, chipotle mayo, cilantro, avocado), Chicken Tinga (shredded chicken, pico de gallo, sour cream, avocado), and Falafel (falafel, chipotle hummus, spicy tahini sauce, lettuce, tomato). Each one was unique and delicious in there own way. My favorite taco hands down though was the signature! Highly suggest that one. We were given complimentary chips and salsa with our meal which was pretty sweet. Even the chips were outstanding! They were salty and seasoned and I had to stop myself from eating them so I wouldn't fill up before the main event. Those tacos ended up getting the best of me though, because I got full anyway halfway through my meal. So happy I finally stopped in Taco Maya today! I don't usually get to this plaza so when my son asked me to pick up Portillo's I knew I had to stop in and try the tacos I've heard people rave about. I went with one shrimp taco and one paneer taco. The well seasoned shrimp were dressed with lettuce, pico de gallo, avocado, and chipotle mayo sauce. The paneer was topped with jalapeño mint sauce, grilled onions, and cilantro. Both tacos were delicious and I will be back soon to try other kinds. In addition to the many choices on the menu, there was also a specials board with several other fantastic sounding tacos. Delicious! First impression I thought it was going to be more american than hispanic but I was wrong. Prices are a little bit on the higher end, but worth it! Steak was big & juicy .. Tacos can be ordered american or mexican style. The mexican style is done with grilled purple onions. They use a blend of white cheeses. Definitely recommend the "chingon taco" the manager divyang recommended it as we were ordering && we loved it. The jalapeños in the chingon taco we're spicy! All the salsas are delicious! Personally I did not like the Habanero .. it was missing salt & flavor. The fried ice cream is a must try so save some room for dessert! Rice and beans and margarita were perfect. The service was super friendly and helpful, too! Great spot! And remember to bus your own tables! Located in the strip mall behind the Portillos and next to the Caputos, I've decided this is my new go to spot for Mexican Food in our area. It's counter service, the people here are super friendly and their food is full of deliciousness. They do give you chips and salsa when you sit down and there's a sauce bar with heat preferences ranging from mild to a very spicy habanero, and all of them have great flavor. Even the habanero, which delivers a good kick, adds a great taste and spice to your meal. The drinks, even the horchata, are refillable which my husband was very pleased with. He also is kind of fussy when it comes to his burrito order but they understood what he wanted with no issue and he declared it the best he's had in awhile. I orderd the Fries ala Mexicana which was huge and had a great queso sauce and tons of guacamole as well as pico, jalapenos and sour cream. Also, the fries were Waffle fries which was great because they gave a great surface area for all the goodness to be piled onto. My parents shared a couple of tacos and they enjoyed all of them but agreed their favorite was the Chingon. Also they do offer them in corn or flour based on your preference which I thought was nice. I'm not sure if it was because they opened recently or because it was Taco Tuesday but they did have a special that night where if you bought two tacos you got one free!
