After crossings the border with several friends and walking toward Revolucion, we stopped by this restaurant. We decided to go for their 3 tacos for $2 special and get some waters and a few cokes. Their food was a little salty, but the waitress seemed nice. We added up our cost and we shouldn't have paid more than $15 for everything. When it came time to pay the waitress refused to give us a bill. Just a piece of paper that said US dollars $39. So either those Costco Kirkland water bottles were $6 each or we royally got ripped off. I would stay clear away from this restaurant and just eat on the main strip. We should have known this was a tourist trap since no one was in the restaurant, but my friends were hungry. All the other restaurants nearby were closed down and out of business. read more

It's almost the first restaurant you run into after crossing the border and heading towards Avenida Revulcion. After a long walk we were hungry, so we picked this place to eat sole authentic Mexican food. Yes, I am embarrassed to say that I went all the way to Mexico....then to have just a chicken quesadilla! (But that's what sounded safe at the time) The service was very good. Even though the waitress didn't understand English, she was still very sweet and made sure we got exactly what we ordered. And I hadn't drunken coke out of a bottle in years, so that was fun to experience again. The red salsa that they bring with the chips is very very very hot!! Small tacoria with side walk seatings on the Liberty Path from the border. It's cool to sit on the path under the palapa and drink down cold beers. It's famous for 3 abodaba tacos for 35 pesos or $1.75. The meat was not sizzling hot like true abodaba but tasty enough with spicy salsa. I ordered a large cóctel de camarones y pulpos (shrimp octopus cocktail) $11. Surprisingly It was fresher and tastier than most other far more expensive places. We could not love this place anymore than we do! We visited this hidden gem twice in 2 days because the people were just that friendly, the drinks were so good, and the food was delicious. Just a hint- the 2 for 1 drink special means they give you two drinks at once- so be ready for that. We shared the drinks so that was no issue for us. For drinks I highly recommend the Mango Margarita- which comes with chamoy and tajin on the rim- or the "Fu*ken Cool" which is a tasty blend of rum, pineapple juice, and curacao. We had tacos, which were some of the best that I have had. Ever. My husband had the chilaquiles one day and shrimp cocktail and mixed tostada another day. Everything was tasty. We trekked from Carlsbad to Gaslamp, from Gaslamp to TJ, so we had a long day of commuting and got tired of trying to find a place to eat and so we came here. They seemed inviting and at this point, we didn't care. We sat down and they handed us the menus. My friend speaks a bit of spanish so he helped us (it's funny because he's the whitest Irish guy and yet he speaks spanish, it's funny). My husband got the margaritas (it's 2 for 1) and the shots for the margarita were pretty weak, nothing to get you drunk over, you'll have to order maybe 8 or 10 of them to get drunk. My friend got the pineapple margaritas and they were good, again, the shots of tequila are weak. My husband and I got the ceviche for two and that was decent. The chips and salsa were good, but nothing impressive. The salsa was so spicy, my friend's son had to get a glass of milk, no warning on how spicy it was going to be. My friend got some fish and rice plate and it didn't look that great or appetizing, he didn't even finish it. We got bottles of cokes to go and as we were leaving, a zombie guy came over to slowly try to take my coke, but the waiter and my friend shoo'ed him away in time. You know you've really made it as a TJ tourist when you get recognized walking past a taco shop! On my last visit through TJ, Mireya spotted me walking down the Tourist Corridor towards the border when she shouted, "AMBAARR!!" Naturally I was already planning to grab a parting taco, but it certainly made a difference to not only be recognized, but for Mireya to remember my name. As a result, Taco Loco has quickly become my favorite spot for a beer on my way in and out of Mexico. It's on Corredor Turistico - so don't expect anything less than menus in USD and two for one deals to draw you in. Service here is always enthusiastic. You can order in English, and menus are all in USD, but I prefer to try and practice my Espanol as often as possible. Beers average $2 depending on your flavor and you can order margaritas at a 2x1 deal all hours of the day. The fish tacos are 2 for $1 and the other options are all fairly priced for a tourist spot. Chips and salsas are complimentary and the red salsa is SPICY. I mainly stick to the fish tacos and beers, but the guacamole was just right - especially with some of the spicy red salsa mixed in. I can't speak to the meat tacos as I haven't had them, but for the price, even if you hated them you wouldn't be too upset. I highly recommend grabbing one of the tables outside where you can watch as "TJ life" passes. You'll certainly see some interesting characters and it's not as loud when as inside when the juke box is on. The crowd at the restaurant, both employees and patrons, never disappoints. It's a great place to chat with locals and people passing through as it's hard not be in a great mood at Taco Loco. While in the US you may be use to eating in peace, you won't find the same at Taco Loco. Frequently children pedaling bracelets, rosaries, gum and small trinkets will come up to you as you're eating. A simple "no gracias" will suffice if you're not feeling generous. Be warned, though - one purchase and it seems word spreads like wild fire amongst the children. I am now the proud owner of a billion knockoff Hello Kitty bracelets in every color due to one purchase (that led to several) influenced a little too heavily by my cervezas. There are a few TVs inside often playing futball (soccer) and a juke box as well if you're into picking your own jams. My preference are the Mariachi bands that stroll through offering to play songs in exchange for a few bucks. It's best to negotiate the price of the song before they start playing, however. ($5 a song isn't unheard of for a larger group) You can also just wave the group on by saying "no gracias" if Mariachi music isn't your thing, but you'll still be able to hear them when they begin singing two tables over, so might as well request your favorite songs. The bathrooms are simple, but better than many in the area. In most of TJ you'll see rubbish bins right near the toilets - yes that is for the TP after you've used it. Plumbing in this area isn't the best. You won't be kicked out of the country for flushing a bit of TP but you certainly don't want to be the last one out of the bathroom as the toilet overflows so plan accordingly. Mireya's enthusiasm alone is reason to stop by every time I visit, but it's the inexpensive beers, two for one fish tacos and spicy salsa that keeps me coming back. It's one of my favorite places to bring friends, and make new ones! read more

Love this spot! Beydi is your girl for awesome food and great drinks. Food was fast, tasted good and the atmosphere was relaxed and fun.

This isn't a place you go to for the views or ambiance, as it's literally on the side of an alleyway facing a fence. However, the staff is super friendly and the music is upbeat. Plus the drinks are 2 for 1 and the tacos might just be the best I've ever had. Recommend stopping here for a quick bite on your way further into Tijuana. Ask for Robert De Niro! read more
