We were going to go out to dinner but we both filled up at the movies w a late lunch of a shared Medium Pepsi, a hot dog each and a shared med pop corn so we went through Taco John's on Richland Rd to take home Pleasantly surprised the shredded chicken hard shell taco held up! Horrible experience. They messed up half our order, then asked us if we were "sure we didn't get it" when we complained. None of the sauces we paid for were included. The meat was gross and greasy, and my tacos were dripping grease before I even finished getting ready to eat them. To add insult to injury, I watched the cashier handling my food with the same gloves he used to handle the screen--completely unsanitary. One of the worst Taco John's experiences, hands down. I know Taco John's is Mexican fast food. If anyone is expecting authentic they're at the absolute wrong place. This is cheap and it's greasy and sloppy. If you're looking for anything to fill your stomach after hitting all the Uptown bars, you'll do well to come here. You won't break the bank if it's a Tuesday especially, and the fried potatoes are legendary in these parts. I hate Taco Bell as much as anyone, but I believe Taco John's is a worthy alternate. This is a chain founded in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1968. It's food is so called "West-Mex." It's the original Taco Tuesday. The special is each week on Tuesday where hard shell tacos are only 69¢. The hash browned potatoes known as the Potato Oles is what makes this unique among the Mexican chains. It also has the Super Burritos which are humongous. They may not be good but they fill you up. A cool feature is their complimentary salsa bar. You can sample all the salsas and as much as you want. It allows you to eat much of one salsa even if you don't like it. The hot salsa is of course the best. I come if craving some cheap Mexican. It's not the most authentic, so if you have the right expectations, it can be a good time. There's not that much better Mexican for as cheap as Taco Johns, it has internet savings, and the place to be for fratboys and anyone looking for late night eats around there. read more

Try getting a balance on a gift card. You call corporate and absolutely no one is there on a Thursday afternoon. The price for the crap they sell is stupidly expensive. I will never purchase a gift card from this joke of an company. Please take my advise and avoid this establishment at all costs. Go to Taco Bell or Del Taco if you want any food. Seriously the worst fast food I believe I've ever had. One order of nachos, one taco, and two large drinks came to over $17. Meat is tasteless, nachos were soggy as soon as we got them, and ingredients were just in clumps on nachos. The fountain drinks were terrible, the tastes were off on every single one. And to top it off my daughter wanted a lemonade and that was the one drink that was broken and was covered with a paper sign that said water only. I had much anticipation for today, because today was the day that I would take a Taco John's virginity. I was off to the races, I put on my best outfit and head out the door. I grabbed my friend Gabe, who was filled with excitement and a sense of euphoria, the type of optimism you get when you're in a new town and someone invites you to a party. He was fidgeting around in the passenger seat and I kindly put my hand on his shoulder, as to settle him and prep him before he lost his sweet and innocent Taco John's virginity. I told him how Taco John is a white, wild western cowboy who makes you Mexican style tacos and oh, that you can get a side of potatoes. "Potatoes?" "Yes Gabe, Potatoes." He ordered the Combo and I myself got the Street Tacos, myself being a cultured and worldly person. We ate, we laughed, he cried, we finished our meals and drove home. My rib cage feels as though it is full of asbestos, he is keeled over screaming on the kitchen floor "why? why?" It has been 3 hours and I have brought him water, tapioca pudding, and Tums. I have attached a system of paper towel rolls that he uses to communicate with me from in there, as he has turned off his phone and shut himself out from the world. This is the most underrated restaurant in town. The food is really tasty the service is impeccable, once I had to wait for my food and the manager(or owner) personally brought it to me with his apologies and a coupon for free food the next time. The potato oles are seasoned with something that I can not place, but turns regular hash brown crowns into a delightful treat. ANYTHING with chicken is fantastic, large chunks of good fresh chicken perfectly seasoned. Their mild sauce is nice and tomatoey and the hot as a decent heat. Their breakfast is also a hidden gem, breakfast tacos and burritos that are outstanding. Tuesdays have been "Taco Tues" for as long as I can remember and you basically get two crunchy beef tacos for the price of one. OK, so this is the only Ohio location so I can't really make it back often, but man would i like too. for starters the Super Potato Oles were great. Danielle got one hard and one soft beef taco and both were good but, you know, they're fast food tacos so you know what you're getting. I, however, got the Taco Burger (all the taco stuff on a bun) and chuckled when i heard someone at his table say "did that dude just say Taco Burger?" That other taco chain restaurant is really missing out. their fans keep clamoring for the return of the Bell Beefer but they refuse. Among the most boring tacos I have ever had, not only is the ground beef seasoned poorly but the hot sauce was a step above ketchup on the scoville scale. I suppose this would be acceptable if this was a super cheap place but my order of the medium size 2-taco meal(drink and tater tots, which is just wrong and seems like left over Burger King potatoes) plus 2 more tacos set me back $7+ , an insane amount for what you get not just in quality but quantity. Wow. Holy guacamole. Started off with the burrito and let me tell you what - I sharted almost immediately. I thought it may have just been me (I had the flu) so I took the family here a couple weeks later for dinner. Kids got a couple taco kids meals. The wife and I split a large chicken quesadilla and the nachos grande. It happened again - we were all fighting over the bathrooms. My wife was not happy with the laundry from that night. To my knowledge, the only Taco John's east of the Mississippi. Being from Wyoming, the birthplace of Taco John's, I come here when I get homesick- even if it is a 60 mile drive. This is a great taco chain. Taco Tuesday is fun! Like Burger King, McDonald's, Chick-Fil-A, and many other American institutions, this place is a must-visit if you're in a region that has this franchise. They give you hash-browns as a side, and their breakfast burritos are awesome. Their super burritos are bigger than Taco Bell's burrito supremo. The one I write about here is close to all apartments on Richland Avenue in Athens. Within *easy* walking distance, and I'm lazy so that's a big deal. I visit as often as I can and I live 2.5 hours away. The food and services is terrific! The food is fresh and the restaurant very clean.

Not sure why everyone is raving about this place? It's over priced prison slop. First off, the chicken is exactly like those precooked chicken packages you get for salads, you know, the ones that taste like plastic? The amount of what can be compared to as canned cheese they throw in the burrito is a complete turn off, as well as, the lack of fresh veggies that were promised. They used about 5-8 small cubes of tomatoes and a tiny amount of shredded lettuce that got lost in the mush of all the cheese and sour cream. There was no flavoring what so ever! Very bland. What a waste of $9 bucks, especially after I found what looked like an eye lash in my food. Most people don't realize that mites live on our eyelashes so who would want that in their food? Extra protein I guess? The side of fried potatoes are just like any other fast food hash browns and the side of "cheese" for dipping is a rip off because it's just like what you'd expect from a can only heated up and over priced. I will say, the service was good and the staff was friendly, which is why I decided to go with their meal recommendation but I won't be back. read more

My husband and I used to live in the Northern Plains so it was easy finding a Taco Johns. We have also traveled 3/4 of the US. We have always enjoyed stopping at Taco Johns whereever we saw one. The food was always fresh, hot, and delicious. We stopped at this Taco Johns on 8-6-11. This is the first time we had ever stopped at this Taco Johns and it is the last time as well. We were so disappointed. The sweet tea tasted like rusty sugar water. The potato oles were cooked in old grease and had no seasoning. taco john's is fast food. it's not some magnificent mexican eatery, but compared to taco bell, the ingredients are way better. i avoid the salsa bar, as i think there as some cleaning agent in it once that upset my stomach. it's a little expensive, but worth the extra few bucks if your only other option is taco bell. the potato ole's (rebranded tater tots with some mexican seasoning) are usually good, but when they are bad, they are BAD. i always omit the cheese sauce from everything, because i don't get down with any form of nacho cheese, and i think theirs is particularly bad. i never feel as good when i leave here as i do one of the locally owned places, but it's not as bad as i used to feel when i ate at places like burger king. the people are usually nice. read more
