We were in town for a sporting event, and a friend had recommended this place for dinner. The best thing I would say is there's a very large patio and live music was happening, so if you just want a fun place with easy parking to come have some drinks and music, this place might be your place. Otherwise, we would only recommend one of the five tacos we tried - the pulled pork taco. The guacamole was runny and more like soup or a spread than fresh guacamole - it reminded me of Costco's and I expected freshly made. I would say the tacos are quite small in terms of portion/quantity of real ingredients. And all of the ingredients felt very sloppy, like huge chunks of onion in the steak fajita taco that were not cooked. It felt like all of the food had been prepared in a hurry, both the cutting and chopping of the ingredients as well as the way the tacos were sent out of the kitchen. There was way too much dry powdery crumbled cheese on top of the shrimp taco. There were almost no vegetables and no flavor in the backfire veggie taco. And the walleye was fried and dry and seemed like it had been reheated not made fresh. I also ordered a mango margarita (and my receipt shows it with the extra $1.50 charge), but they gave me a plain one - it was disappointing and since the food was not good, I didn't want to stay longer and request a new one. read more

Taco Jed = no notes. Ok, maybe one note which is that my take out meal didn't come with any napkins so be mindful of that. We didn't need silver ware, but it could be helpful. We were in town for a weekend kids sporting event we attended every year and a friend recommended Taco Jed. We ordered about one of every type of taco. If it sounds good to you, you will love it. We were absolutely famished, and two tacos a person was more than enough (plus chips of course) The rest of our tacos were put in the hotel mini fridge and warmed up the next day in the microwave and they were still better than anything else I've ever eaten in Rochester and probably most tacos I've ever had. I don't live in Rochester but I travel here regularly for work. I've been to Taco JED a couple times and most recently ordered delivery from Uber Eats to my hotel room for dinner. They have three vegetarian taco options Flower Child (cauliflower), Tree Huger (broccoli) and Backfire (black bean). I ordered one of each and they were all delicious! You can modify/customize each taco by removing or adding toppings and selecting corn or flour tortilla. All my tacos were made correctly per my modifications. I am always looking for a great taco joint that has a good vibe (music, walls, and a little divey), excellent variety of tacos, and various salsas to enjoy with the tacos or with chips. This definitely fits the bill. I ordered the walleye taco (because we are in MN) and the picadillo taco (Walter style). The walleye tacos was so good. Perfect crisp with great surrounding fixings. The picadillo had a solid amount of meat with a corresponding layer of toppings. Both really good. The chips and salsa were good and various salsa allowed for customising the heat index and therefore the experience in your mouth. Both tacos were good with, and without, the salsa so choose your poison. The service was quick and polite. We had a great first experience at Taco Jed. The menu is simple, all tacos with a few sides. There's plenty of seating inside, as well as outdoor seating for the warmer months. The chips and guacamole were good. The chips were served warm, light and crispy. Winner. The guac could have used just a touch more seasoning but was solid. The Piccadillo with queso served on top was stellar. The shrimp tacos were also quite good. My favorite was the flower child, which was very well done especially for a vegetarian option. The blackfire was also an excellent vegetarian option. Servings are generous, 2-3 tacos are plenty. Service was friendly. Make sure you stop in and try Taco Jeds. read more

Came here for lunch on a Saturday solo from Omaha Nebraska. I was welcomed by the over friendly staff and owner Steve. All with George Jones, Ricky Scaggs, and Allison Krause playing through the speakers. This is an authentic Midwest experience with a huge American flag in the very well decorated dining area. I fully enjoyed the Chicken and Picadillo taco. Added on the bottomless chips with salsa (the pico looked good too). The Chips were hot and the salsa thick and flavorful. The ingredients of cabbage and radishes on the tacos was fresh and the meat was not saturated in grease. I would certainly come again! Taco Jed's has a great patio to enjoy during the warmer months and so many people rave about how much they like their tacos. In fact, I believe they were voted "best taco in Rochester". That being said, I'm not a fan of their tacos. I'd classify them as "gourmet" or, I don't know, Tex-Mex? I like authentic tacos with a corn tortilla, a little cotija cheese, some cilantro, and maybe some onions on top... their combinations just did not do it for me. Very smooth almost puréed . Slightly spicy . Chips were freshly fried and warm. I ordered three tacos . The Fried chicken taco was average with fresh toppings . I also ordered the fish taco with fried walleye . I added salsa from the salsa bar which greatly improved the flavor . The best taco I had was one of two vegetarian options available . It was called "Tree Hugger" was the best tasting bite I had all night . Definitely worth a try . The sauce was well rounded . The avocado was a great addition. My wife enjoyed the pork taco and also had the shrimp taco with was her favorite . My kiddo shared a quesadilla which we added steak to . Our bill was $44 with drinks . This is an amazingly unique Mexican restaurant with delicious tacos. A mix of the good authentic and something new makes it an interesting menu for everyone. Our food was fresh and absolutely delectable. The staff was very helpful, since it was our first time & you order at the desk where you pay. They have many options and give you the freedom to change it up. I forgot to take pictures of the tacos but the different salsas, sauces, and guacamole were amazing as well. We enjoyed all of the 5 varieties we tried. There are good vegetarian options like the Flower Power with cauliflower. The only chicken option is a fried chicken--hoping they might add a grilled chicken option too! I tried it but was unimpressed. There are plenty other taco places that have better quality/taste. Let me share one point of concern. I entered the business and saw a guy behind the counter. This guy was wearing black gloves for food prep. He completed my money transaction wearing those same gloves, walked into the back kitchen with the gloves on and lastly I caught him from the corner of my eye, walking into the bar still wearing those gloves. I can bet money those where the same gloves I initially saw him with because all these events were under a minute of time. When my order was completed by other individuals, I ask who was that guy in the black gloves, I was told he was an owner. So, where am I going with this? We were told we had to come here when visiting Rochester. We were all so glad we did! The nachos were great, tacos were unique and flavorful. The staff were so friendly too. We took some to go and had to buy some shirts to remember this awesome stop! Our only regret was we waited until the last day to try it. Though we've lived in Rochester for a while, tonight was the first time we've tried Taco Jed. Nice atmosphere on the inside with live music and trendy decor. Food had ups and downs. Pork taco and the queso were delish, but the Picadillo and grilled chicken tacos left much to be desired in the flavor department.
