I just don't get the reviews. On a crosscountry road trip I was jonesin for Mexican. A place in TX that sells Mexican, I have to go. Upon looking at the menu, this is just a redesigned Taco Bell. I'm from CA so I'm used to REAL Mexican food-tacos with cilantro/onions/chilis, sopas, pozole, menudo, etc. This place sells tacos made with premade hard taco shells that are 2.99???? I asked the attendant if I could get a chicken burrito..."We don't sell chicken". I asked for steak..."We don't sell steak". I then asked for a bean rice and cheese burrito, his response, "We don't sell rice". He went on to tell me that "the food is a joke, rip off Mexican". It seems to me that the good people of Texas have been sold a story that this is "Authentic Mexican". If you want Taco Bell, go here. Otherwise, keep driving. read more

We are new to town and are checking out all the places we can. The thing that drew me to Taco Casa was the sign out front that said something like Coconut oil is the only way to fry. I figured if they realized that coconut oil was a good thing, I'd give it a try. While waiting for my order, I saw a big All American pressure cooker sitting on their counter. I asked the cashier what they used it for, she said to cook the beans. Ok, that's good, beans cooked on site. The menu is limited, but it makes it easy to order. I don't eat beef but any item can be ordered without beef (though you will pay the same price). I like the olives on the items and can tell they are chopped by hand and not machine. Awful! Alex the large man behind the counter in a black polo which I am assuming is a manager is the most rude individual I have ever dealt with. They didn't make my order right so I went in to have it fixed. We ordered nachos put together because we are driving over 2 hours in a new vehicle. I asked in the most polite way for them to simply put the toppings in the bag over the chips. He opened the cheese in front of me and threw it on the chips and said "I don't know why you couldn't do this". Well sir 1. I don't work here 2. I've had a stroke and have partial use of one hand and 3. You didn't make it correctly to begin with. I will never be back to this establishment and I can't believe the way I was treated. We love this place. The food is always fresh and they really fill everything up. The chilada is soooo much better than the enchrito at Taco Bell. They are full inside, have a lot of great cheese all over and also put on quite a few olives, which Taco Bell did away with years ago. Poor things, they just were not making enough money and had to cut out their 3 small bits of olives to survive. For years now, I've felt sick the night and next day after eating at the Bell. Never once at Taco Casa. I've declared that I will never eat at the Bell again and have held to that for about a year now. Keep up the excellent food and happily making things the way we ask, from time to time. We will gladly stay loyal to you. Food is good. Drive thru was a little slow. Prices seemed high. Ordered 2 items(no drink) and it was over $10. I didn't notice any combination meals(maybe I missed them). I would have rather gotten a combo meal. Easier to order and make everything a little cheaper. I only went here cause I was close. I wouldn't drive here just to eat. First, Taco Casa has the best sweet tea around. Fact. Second, the taco Lite is to die for. It's not lite on calories, it's light on taste because it is made with a crispy flour tortilla instead of corn. It's also very affordable. Not bad for fast-food, and worlds better than Taco Bell. read more

I love this place. Small menu, but tasty food and more meat and cheese in the tacos than their competitors. Portions seem generous except the enchilada is a little small for my liking. Its not high grade, or fine dining but if you're looking for a Taco Bell alternative give 'em a try! read more

Not really my favorite taco but it is close to me and cheap. usually friendly staff. I went on a tuesday and asked about taco tuesday special I was told there isn't one. I later found out there is. Not always consistent sometimes the taco has a funny taste. Kind of a hit and miss if I get a good taco or not. sometimes very greasy sometimes not. The tea is great! I always ask for double cup since the cups are so flimsy they spill if you try to pick it up. read more

Good food at good prices, but I rarely get what I order. Even though the person taking the order gets it right, the folks putting it together just can't read their screens. Happened to me three times now and each time I was in a rush to go somewhere and then had to go all the way back to get it right. This last time I caught it before I left, brought it in, they promised to fix it, I ran out with only a quick look and later found it was messed up again. Update: Manager Alex was very helpful. Been here twice but do not know why. First time I found no outside trash receptacles so asked the employee at the drive-in window to take back bag from my meal. Management forbids this she told me. I guess trash expense is supposed to be born by the environment or someone else :( A year passes and I am buying fuel for my truck next door so thought "maybe I was in a bad mood, give it another try". Is this the greatest fast food Mexican restaurant of all time? I'm not qualified to say, but yes. It is. Unless Rosa's Tortilla Factory is considered fast food, because in that case it wins. Nonetheless, this place is simply a treat if you ever have the "honor" of being in Abilene, Texas. I could down about 20 gallons of their sweet tea. A great place to stop if you're just going through Abilene on a road trip. read more

As an hardcore "Bueno Head" for the last forty years, I have to say this. As far as Mexican fast food, this place is simply outstanding. The food is very reasonably priced, cheap in fact for the great quality. The portions are huge. The staff could not be friendlier and the restaurant was spotlessly clean. I tried it on a whim passing through Abilene some months back as I had been told that it was everything that Taco Bueno used to be and that Taco Bell and Taco Cabana will never be. I've been hooked ever since. It's true that the menu here is almost identical to what Taco Buenos was over forty years back but perhaps Taco Casa is now everything Taco Bueno wanted to be all those years ago. Great food guys! My niece, nephew and I stopped here for lunch. My adult nephew is in a wheelchair. The employees were ALL so very kind and helpful from the very first moment they saw us pull up ! They held the door for us and also allowed him to use the ladies restroom while we accompanied him they watched the door. Our entire experience was awesome. Every employee was very kind and helpful.
