This review may be a bit less trustworthy as I was a bit intoxicated and hungry when I ordered, but I actually found the burritos here to be decently similar to those I have had and missed in San Diego. Some time has passed, and I gotta say...these guys really improved their quality :-) I am writing this update based on several visits following my huge disappointment, either spontaneous ones with bunch of starving friends in the middle of the night with no other place open around, or just simple pick up after work....Their service got much better, it is very comparable to other TBK's now :-) The lady that often works the register is super nice and the guys working the grill are not screwing the orders any more-in fact, they make the best steak fajitas which have much more flavor then before, and they have a lot of crispy delicious peppers in it :-) They never hesitate to give you extra hot sauces to go, and the food is made in super speed :-) Thank you for upgrading your service guys!!!! OK so their Harlem Location isn't bad, but the Des Plaines location doesn't know how to make carne asada, I ordered 3 carne asada tacos and meat definitely didn't look like carne asada, and this isn't the first time this has happened either. The meat looked like barbacoa, it came apart easily like pulled pork, I dunno what meat they are using or if they're just trying to say that "it's beef so there's your steak taco". But when people order carne asada they expect to receive carne asada not barbacoa. read more

Not sure how management of Taco Burrito King is okay with this location tarnishing it's name and reputation. In all honestly, without the TBK label, I wouldn't be so bitter and upset about this location's business. The TBK's I've been to prior to the opening of this location are quick, efficient, and precise in the art of late night burrito production. At the Harlem Ave location, there's an almost eerie level of consistency you get - same employees, same level of burrito deliciousness, same speed & professionalism of employees, etc. Unfortunately this is overwhelmingly not the case at the Des Plaines location. Employees have always seem inconvenienced by the presence of patrons and have generally been pretty cold for no apparent reason. My order is always very easy and straight forward - a burrito with everything on it. You'd think this would be pretty hard to fuck up but you'd be wrong. More times than not something is missing - even when I'm the only person they need to cook for. I'm pretty much a huge pushover when it comes to the service industry so most of my experiences at this location involve me staring at a sad, half-assed burrito that's missing ingredients wondering where I went wrong and why I didn't just go to the Harlem location. This place it's open 24/7 it's a taco place, kinda like fast food tacos not bad specially when you are hungry or after you had too much to drink, food comes out pretty fast, I like the salsas that you can add to your tacos delicious, place is not bad I would say, I give it 4 stars because usually tables are not clean after customers leave so we happen to find them dirty once I a while wish they can improve that, plenty of sitting since this location is very spacious, fountain drinks, bottle drinks and Spanish drinks such as Horchata. In fact, we couldn't get over how generous their were - the burritos were HUGE and so were the nachos grande!!! Sure beats Taco Bell, here you have authentic Mexican food!!! Heard many good things about this place and was in the area so decided to try it. I ordered the chicken burrito which was very average. The place was dirty, tables were not cleaned from previous customers. There was only one other customer in there so it's not like they were busy. Stopped in for lunch, was hesitant because of the ratings. Well the ratings don't lie. I got two steak tacos which are pretty big but has no taste whatsoever. I added sauce to it and still didn't taste any flavor. My suggestion is keep driving and find a better place. read more

I have read a bunch of reviews below and was surprised with the negative feedback from customers. My own experience was really nice and I was quite satisfied with my order. Recently I ordered 4 tacos for me and a friend of mine and it was really delicious. I tried chicken and fish tacos and my friend 2 steak tacos. All food was fresh and mouthwatering. It smelled good and flavor was great as well. I must say I'm not a big fan of Mexican cuisine but these tacos are better option than buying burgers from different fast food stores. As for customer service I can't say anything wrong as well. Staff was friendly and helpful. They took my order quickly and It didn't take forever to take it out. I'd like to add they all wore masks and gloves following all quarantine rules. Overall it was a pretty good experience so I was really badly surprised with all the stuff I read below. All businesses are struggling a lot now so they need our support more than ever. Definitely gonna order more tacos in near future. read more

I ordered a torta and 2 tacos from this place and i got the runs. I literally after 4 hours after eating from their had the runs. Oh my goodness!!! This place totally revamped their Super Nachos. It was amazingly yummy! I ordered mine with ground beef and it was so delicious that I literally finished the whole thing by myself for the first time and I am also 8 months pregnant...lol...Right now I am very picky about the food I eat so this exceeded my expectations. Can't tell you about the quality of the food because I never got it. We ordered through the website for delivery, and after an hour and a half, still had not gotten it, and no one had called us. We called and were told that they didn't do delivery and that we would have to come pick it up. We ordered delivery for a reason. Then we were told they could not cancel the order, we would have to (our credit card was already charged). Then the woman who answered the phone told us to call back in five minutes. After five, we called and she said her manager didn't know how to cancel it, and she didn't know what to tell us. She gave us the manager's number and told us we had to call her. The manager said she could void it but not cancel it (huh?) and that it was on DoorDash. We ordered through the Taco Burrito King website, not DoorDash. We did end up getting our refund, but by the time it was resolved it was 1:30am and everything else was closed. We are in a hotel, so it's not like we could cook something instead. read more

The worst tacos that I have ever eaten in the Chicago suburbs. You're better off going to a place in the city or Cilantro grill for their tacos. I should have read the reviews first. I thought of the TBK near UIC which stays open all night to serve drunk college kids with their amazingly authentic quesadillas. On first glance this TBK is very clean and modern. the food actually looks very nice when it first comes out. Then the positives stop, we had a burrito, nachos, torta and guac n chips. The chips which are bought form a vendor were the only positive, and even they were mediocre. The food is just bland, lacks flavor. How do you mess up a guacamole?! It needed more salt and lime, all we could taste was the avocado. The torta was a soggy mess and greasy, lacked any potential. There is just a lack of seasoning throughout the cooking. I have been to this location less than a handful of times and NEVER EVER EVER again! I will stick to the Niles location or if I am ever in the city, will go to one of those. This last visit was the one that took the cake though. I really wanted Mexican food (was thinking of to Oro de Gallo(?)(Lee/Algonquin), but that is out of the way. Also considered Los Compadres (Algonquin/Dempster), but that is across the street from me, so I have it often. So TBK it was. This place is clean, and although it is pricey, the portions are huge. That is where the positives stop. I went Monday and the registers were down (only cash). I NEVER have cash on me...but damnit, I did that day. So, I ordered a chorizo taco and a king size steak burrito. The taco is HUGE. With all that crap on it though, you can hardly taste the meat. It is essentially a salad with cheese and sour cream and a little chorizo. The corn tortilla was EXTREMELY bland, honestly, it was the equivalent of water (the taste). So, I finish the taco, minus some of the tortilla. Now, I want to try the burrito. I cut off a third and begin to eat. As I'm eating it, I notice something off about the meat. Finally, I realize that it is essentially the same quality/taste as that canned beef stew meat! SICK!!! I tossed the rest of that portion and still have 2/3 of the burrito left. This place is a solid choice for late night food. It's open 24/7, its cheap, good tasty food when your very hungry, and they cook up the Mexican food right in front of you. Yes its not a fancy Mexican place to go on your anniversary like some of the bad reviews complain about, but I don't want it to be that. I always get the combination plate and I couldn't ask for more. Every time I come back to the Chicago area I need to stop in here once. Moral of the story come here if you want good cheap Mexican food at any time of the day. read more

TBK on Harlem has a lot to teach this location. This has to have become the worst TBK nearby. Tamales are fair, rice & beans are generally decent. Horchata is good. Carne Asada is in edible. I actually had to spit it out. The chicken tacos were good once but haven't been good since. Last time I found a large piece of cartilage in my taco. I'm lucky I didn't choke when I found it in my mouth (gag). We've given many tries and just find the place not worth 1/2 the money much less the calories. We were looking so forward to the opening of this location. What a disappointment. If you want good Mexican food visit Los Compadres in Arlington Heights or drive to TBK on Harlem.
