No idea why so many people love the food from their restaurants. Visited 2 of them and both were terrible. Taco Bell is better

This is probably my favorite Taco Bob's location, although the one on Westnedge is pretty close. They both do a better job with the amount of food that you get for the price you pay, and I always have great service. My least favorite is the Centre Street location. I actually stopped going to that location because they are stingy with their toppings and there is very little meat. I usually order hard shell tacos, Funny tacos (hard shell taco inside a soft shell taco, with nacho cheese in between), nachos with beef or nachos supreme depending on what I'm in the mood to eat. Today I ordered 3 hard shell tacos and they were delicious. I also love their mild sauce, which is good at every location. Unfortunately, you don't get as much food in the taco shells as you do at Qdoba. I will get full after eating 2 tacos from Qdoba, but I'm still hungry and I ate all 3 tacos from Taco Bob's. I actually met Bob when I worked downtown Kalamazoo many, many years ago and he had a stand on the mall, and he was always really nice. Back then I also used to run into him at the Portage soccer field as well, and he would remember me as his customer from downtown. I like to try and support the Taco Bob's restaurants for that reason. read more

Pulled up behind two cars. I had already decided on what I wanted by looking at their website. The menu was on the side of the building and easy ordering. Line moved pretty quick ( MUCH FASTER THAN WESTNEDGE MCDONALDS !!) So I got a Bobs Wet burrito! Less than $10. They also threw in some nacho chips. I went to Taco Bobs at the recommendation of an online article and the numerous reviews. Would I come back to Taco Bobs? Absolutely. It was a ton of food. And to be honest, I didn't finish it. Okay, so I am from Kalamazoo and grew up on Taco Bob's and have been to several locations (so each one is getting a review)! More times than I will admit. People were blown away when Taco Bell came out with the Double Decker years ago, PLEASE.... that has nothing on Taco Bob's Funny Taco. Hands down, the best! Every single time I come home to visit, it is 100% required I go here and most of the time it is more than once. It is what it is. I have Ben obsessed with it even now. Now that I do not live in Kalamazoo anymore, this is the location that gets the most visits out of me while home. It is the closest to my friend's house that I always crash at and dare I say where I have now ruined Ben from wanting any other Taco place, anywhere. He literally bugs me about going there each time he comes home with me, like I don't have plans to go.... a few times. Funny though, every time I go in there, I think of it being an old Subway location waayyyyy back in the day when I was a kid. If in the Kalamazoo area, make it part of the plan for a visit at one of the 6 locations. read more

There is not much signage but we swerved into the parking lot at the last second! There is a drive thru around the back of the building. Taco Deluxe - 6. I tasted more beans than meat. There was plenty of sour cream on it though. Bean and cheese burrito with sour cream and lettuce - 6. I tasted mostly tortilla but they were a little light on the beans. Cheesy Taco - 8 it's a burrito! Good amount of sour cream and cheese. Taco - 7. Tastes like a Taco Bell Taco! Chips - 6 chips were ok but I didn't care for the cheese sauce. I'm guessing it's nacho cheese sauce. My daughter loved the cheese sauce and licked the container clean. Lols. There were a few chips but nothing like you'd get at a taqueria Quick stop and inexpensive food. Next time I will find some sauce and drench my food in it. read more

I really love Taco Bob's; its a mix of nostalgia from post-school events and local fast food that won't make you feel filled with grease. The staff is very friendly and comprised of mainly younger kids (I remember a few friends back in high school used to work here). The inside has plenty of seating and the food is very fairly priced. Now the food: I ordered a #9 combo to go. One thing I appreciated was that the food was packaged in plastic Tupperware which kept my wet burrito nice and warm during my drive. The meal came with a burrito, a small bed of rice with refried beans, and some greens. In addition, I got a small side of chips (included) which were fresh and nicely salted. Each combo also comes with a drink! All this came out to be $8.89 plus tax which was a great deal. My burrito was fresh and nicely packed. The rice and beans were standard to most Chipotle/Qdoba type joints and the burrito was good too. I think the best part about this place was the sauce. The salsas they offer have a great variety and are quite generously given. They make the food shine the most. My biggest disappointment was the fact that the combo was a bit less food than I expected. For that reason, I'd definitely say this falls into the "places I'd grab lunch at" category. This isn't my favorite taco place, but it is fairly good, fast, and relatively cheap. I'd give them 3 stars based on the food, but I bumped it up to 4 because of their service. In summary: I mostly enjoyed that this fast-food Mexican restaurant, which is on par with Chipotle, is fresh and has great service and a drive-through window. It offers variety and food that if you're in a rush will have you feeling good while also being relatively healthy. It's the perfect grab-and-go lunch spot. read more

Had the chicken wet burrito with added diced jalapeños $8.34. No huge surprises with this place gringo style Mexican food. Flavors tend to weigh heavier on garlic, salt, and vinegar less on spices or fresh. i.e. jalapeños are canned and taste mostly of vinegar too. Pretty much what you would expect and is essentially a high school boy's dream of what local Mexican deliciousness means. read more

I ordered a Bob Wet Burrito with beans as the protein so, extra beans. The picture shows lettuce tomato onion sour cream on the side, inside the bowl. What I received was a burrito and sauce. The cook said everything else was inside of it. There was a good amount of sauce. The burrito was very small for the price. It had good flavor but otherwise was mediocre at best. Very little lettuce inside and it was soggy and wilted. Five or six tomato pieces and a couple of olives. There may have been a quarter teaspoon of sour cream. Not at all worth $10 even in today's climate. Bob's increase the amount of ingredients a bit and put the lettuce tomato black olives and sour cream on the outside (which would require them to put a reasonable amount), it would be much closer to a $10 to go burrito. As is, I would definitely not go back. read more

I think there's a recurring theme on the reviews of Taco Bob's that's worth noting: it's compared to Taco bell. I think this is fair. However, I have one major qualm, and it's this: I don't think the price increase from Taco Bell is equal to the quality increase. I'll elaborate. But first, I'll be fair. Here are the "step-ups" from a chain like Taco Bell: -Better meat -Smaller, more "handcrafted" menu -Slightly more veggie options -Better looking burritos. -Alcohol on the menu But now I must explain my largest complaint. I believe that if I'm going to pay 2 dollars more than I would at Taco Bell, for a smaller amount of food, I would like a noticeable step up in quality. I did not feel that there was such a step. I found my tacos were lukewarm, and that the veggies were not crisp. The cheese was low quality queso, akin to what you might find in any Taco Bell or Del Taco. Main point: Was it good? Absolutely. Would I make it a mainstay in my diet? Probably not. Worth checking out because you might feel differently. read more

Walked up to door, small store, locked. I read the sign that said to call for your order, or use the drive through. I drive a big truck daily for work that doesn't allow me to use drive throughs. The person on the phone took my order, then immediately asked me to use the drive through which I replied with my previous reasoning. He then continued to tell me "I know, but we're really busy". I could care less. You're operating a food service at lunch time, that's how it goes and it's certainly not my issue. I will never try to eat here again, who knows what else gets skimped on when they're busy. Thought I'd add that my order was a walking taco in a cup. Taco Bob's is one of our favorite lunch spots. They make each order fresh and to order and comes out pretty quickly. The Funny Tacos are a great standby and a great alternative to a regular fast food taco. I've been getting the quesadilla more recently which is a nice change and filled with plenty of meat. I definitely prefer the Center location, the staff is always super nice and it's a lot nicer inside than the outside may appear. read more

Perfectly fine, if not amazing. The food is hot, delivered quickly, and the staff always have smiles on. I get the funny tacos (a Taco Bob special item: crunchy taco inside a soft taco shell with melted cheese in between) on most trips. Their great virtue is being open later than La Finca or Quekas, so if you get the munchies later on, Taco Bob's is the solution. Now with the full range of Stewart's sodas, plus a liquor license so you can get beer or tequila with that late night taco run. read more

10/10 would order a Cheezy Taco again. Taco Bob's is just as fast as a Taco Bell, but with better quality ingredients and alcohol on the menu. Their most popular item is a Funny Taco, a hard shell taco wrapped in a soft shell with nacho cheese between the shells. I didn't care for this item as it was too "bready" and I didn't notice any cheese between the two shells. The Cheezy Taco, however, was perfect and still piping hot after a 15-minute drive home. Their combos are also popular and come with a drink, pinto beans, Spanish rice, tortilla chips, and another item from the menu. The chips are super thin and well flavored, but the side of sauce--offered in 4 levels of heat--wasn't good. Next time I'd like to try their taco salad or nachos supreme. read more

I gave this place 5 stars, not only because it was a fun dining experience, and a fabulous business with personality, but because my husband talks about his love for Taco Bobs at least once a week. I should mention that we live 1,479 miles away. As an Arizonan girl visiting my husband's family for the holidays, I was so excited to finally visit the flagship Taco Bobs! I had been hearing so much about Funny Tacos, and had even made a version for the hubby at home, to appease his cravings. The shop reminded me of a less mobile taco cart, with its finite ingredients, but creative offerings of well prepared items. I did not see any chicken on the menu. (I uploaded pictured of the menu.) The funny Tacos are soft tacos wrapped against hard tacos with nacho cheese, creating a really fun texture. You have to try them! The Cheesey did not look impressive, but it was my favorite. It is a flavorful beef mixture and sour cream in a small flour tortilla. The beef is so yummy! The staff was nice. Contrary to the last review, THEY HAVE A DRIVE THOUGH window, and have for some time. **Taco Bob has a Taco Truck available for special events. They catered a friends wedding and were a big hit! ** South-westerners: You know how it is with hot sauce in the Midwest, right? Don't expect the hottest hot sauce to be our kind of hot. Dear Taco Bob's, I love you. Taco Bob's is like a local Taco Bell (but so much better). The funny taco is a soft shell tortilla with queso, wrapped around a crunchy American taco. It's amazing. This location also serves alcohol! I also got a Cheese Blast (what a name) which is basically just melted cheese rolled up in a tortilla. I wasn't mad about it though. I will definitely be back to get more Funny Tacos and maybe a drink next time. P.S., the hot sauce is not hot. read more

Love this place specifically because they have the all-time friendliest humans working here! and of course the food is made fresh while you wait and is tasty and more healthy than the average mex fix (well, OK - in this case, Americanized Mexican). Taco Bob's is absolutely amazing for the price. You get good quality Mexican through a drive threw. So glad I saw it on the exit sign on our way home to Milwaukee. Who needs Taco Bell when you have Taco Bob's? You'll find everything you would expect from fast food Mexican at this joint. Get your fill of tacos, burritos, nachos, etc. I love the nachos! The chips are perfectly salted and the flavors of the toppings mesh together so well. I'm not sure there are many healthy options here, but you can feel good about yourself for supporting a local business. read more

Driving through Kalamazoo, I wanted to avoid the standard fast food chain fare, while at the same time grabbing something quick. Perhaps my expectations of cheap "street style" tacos were higher than they should have been, but I left let down. A notch above Taco Bell, but clearly missing the mark on overall freshness and quality of what I wanted and anticipated. Would probably be a great late night, after the bars food choice...but probably not the best choice for a sober destination. Appears to be a local independent chain, which definitely beats supporting the national chains, but the quality was a letdown. read more

This is one of my favorite local spots for a quick Mexican food fix. With food this great I sometimes wonder how anybody could ever pull into a Taco Bell once they've been here. This location was recently remodeled and the dining area is very inviting. If you "eat in" the food is served on beautiful decorative glass plates. Nice touch! The family that started this restaurant chain takes great pride in its product. The portions are generous and the price is very reasonable. The ingredients are fresh and of high quality. My favorite "go to" here is the wet burrito. The soft tacos rank nearly just as high. I've noticed a lot of locals also use this restaurant for their catering services. The catering is well organized and the cuisine is of equally high quality. If you've ever met Taco Bob himself he's one of the happiest most congenial people you'll ever know. His wife (who we affectionately refer as Nacho Nancy) is also the shoulders of the business and together they've built a hometown brand that delivers excellent quality and service. Great food, great service! The food is more like Tex Mex than actual Mexican food, so just don't expect anything authentic. I had their bob's burrito combo with inferno sauce when I went. The burrito was good, rice and beans were alright, tortilla chips are great (really light and cripsy). The inferno sauce isn't as spicy as you'd think (it's more like hot sauce) and their hot sauce isn't really spicy at all, just has a tiny kick. P.S. Try their lemonade if you go, It's made fresh! read more
