The chili relleno stole the show! It was delicious, stuffed with cheese and ground beef covered in sauce. The beans tasted freshly prepared. The taco was crispy and generously filled. My husband had the burrito and taco lunch special with rice. He said the burrito was good. Our granddaughter ordered the chicken nuggets and fries off the kids menu. The nuggets were prepared from frozen mixed chicken nuggets and she did not like or eat them. I'd say her meal was a bust. She ended up eating my husband's rice. Our server checked on us multiple times and kept waters filled. I'd say it was a fairly good experience with the exception of the kid's meal. There's plenty of parking.

The Taco Shoppe is a carry-out only and has no inside seating at all. In fact, there's no "inside" of the business. You order from one window and pick up your food from another. There's a handful of picnic tables in the lot next door, but that's it. So what's the secret??? Tough to describe. First of all, the soft shell corn tortillas are flash fried, maybe?!? Whatever they do to them, they are delicious. Their ground beef is also kind of a mystery. It's unlike any beef taco I've had before, and my fat ass has had PLENTY of tacos in my 52 years. My favorite is the veggie quesadilla, it is very different than the average quesadilla that is served at other Mexican restaurants. I always order the platter that comes with rice and beans, because both are excellent. The red sauce has heat but is very flavorful. I always order extra red sauce to take home. If you don't care for hot sauces but enjoy flavor you can mix a little sour cream into the red sauce to make it milder. Service is always friendly and helpful. Tortas Johann is the best reason to visit Kokomo!
