Voted best restaurant in Ravenswood...... by our family. And by the look of most of the other…read morereviews in Yelp, it's a favorite of other families too! It was a hot steamy 4th of July day when we made the trek to Las Fajitas. I mean, for this west coaster, the heat was brutal. I mentioned to my daughter that I can deal with dry heat, but throw in the humidity and stick a fork in me, I'm done. Heat is heat dad, she said. Deal with it. Then deal me out! But of course, I dealt with it, and thanks to the great folks at Las Fajitas, I wasn't dealt a bad hand. Ahhh a cool breeze hit us as we opened the door. That's worth five stars right there! From that point it only got better. Nothing on the menu chipped away from the LF's celestial lofty perch. Chips and salsa did their job and made us thirsty. Our drinks showed up promptly and mine, (beer of course) was frothy and cold. The orders of tacos, Fajitas, and salad, arrived at the table hot, and in the case of the salad, cold. All were spot on. I felt as if I were on the Mexican Riviera enjoying authentic Mexican cuisine. Now, to be honest, I've never been to the Mexican Riviera, but I have been to Mexico, and have eaten their food offerings. Some of which I was wary of, but not so at the Ravenswood Riviera. Our food was delicious and the aftereffects were limited to the normal..... I think you get the drift (pun intended). "Ole" to Ravenswoods finest! Enjoy what you're about to experience. Quick Tip: Las Fajitas is two stories. One connected to the other by a spiral staircase. Throughout our meal I was watching the servers struggling up and down. If you're not there to booze it up, give em a break and sit downstairs. I'm sure they'll appreciate your choice. I wonder if they ever thought of installing a dumbwaiter.

The overall score of 8.5 is definitely well earned and I highly recommend this one. If you love Mexican food try the Slammin' Wet Burrito and you will see why it is highly recommended. Cleanliness gets dinged simply because it's in a gas station but don't let that discourage you from eating great food.

For a drink I ordered the Smoky New Fashioned which was really delicious and it had a pretty good orange taste to it and not too boozy. For an appetizer we ordered the Chips & Queso which was really good, the queso was thick & gooey which was perfect. For my entree I ordered 3 of the Grilled Mahi Tacos, now I have ordered these before while I was in Ft Lauderdale and of course they are supposed to be good, your right next to the ocean, however, there is no ocean near West Virginia and yet these were AMAZING! The fish wasn't fishy and everything had so much flavor. These are a definite must have if you love tacos and fish. Everything here was very delicious!!!

Tge temperatures were concerning, even though I got the same options as my date to maximize potential for greatness... the bbq one had lots of interesting flavor. The chicken was extremely understated, sadly. The steak - just remove it from the menu - nowadays its too pricey to get a good enough cut to not have grisly pieces. Half went to the edge of the plate, or napkin. All in all, good for some chips and beers. Bathrooms were a bit gross. Floors were sticky.

Dripping this on the chips and my Mexican rice was my favorite part of the meal, Guacamole - the fresh diced tomatoes and red onion added crunch and flavor which I really enjoyed. Salsa - I'm a little torn on this. The salsa was fresh and flavorful but there is a different flavor here that I can't put my finger on that tasted different from other Charleston area Mexican restaurants of tried when in town. I also ordered the combination taco plate with Birria taco and chicken tinga. I wasn't expecting sour cream in the chicken tinga taco so I couldn't finish that. I tried to eat around to get the chicken but the sauce was not very good. This didn't taste like chicken tonga and I wouldn't order it again. The Birria taco also did not taste like Birria that I've had. This was more like beef roast on a taco with toppings. It wasn't bad and it wasn't good but it also didn't come with consume which was disappointing. The sides were rice and beans and while they were ok, I was expecting more flavor and authentic Mexican cheese instead of the plain shredded cheese on top. This was very, very Americanized Mexican food but I think they know their audience. Whatever you do, don't order a Margherita from here. I should've learned my lesson about Charleston area Mexican restaurants the last time I was in town but unfortunately I thought it was just the other restaurant down the block. I'm convinced they use grain alcohol or some other very cheap liquor in these in some of the Mexican restaurants in the area. The flavor was way off and was definitely not tequila. I only had this drink on a full stomach and it gave me a headache and nausea the next day.

I decided to give this local restaurant my business for the first time rather than going to a chain restaurant or something further into town. My expectations must've been too high because I was highly disappointed!! The food is far from being good enough to warrant their prices. My food was barely warm. There was very little taco meat (ground beef) given for my taco bowl. Plus it didn't really have much flavor to it. The salsa didn't look or taste like salsa. Instead it reminded me of a tomato sauce. It was just plain gross is how I can describe it. The queso was just a thick glob of mediocre tasting dip. Nothing thrilling at all and lacked taste. For $16.50 plus a $2 tip for one person to eat, I feel like I got ripped off and ticked off!! For the money I could've & should've went to El Torel or Taco Bell even. It's a shame, I really wanted to like this place but didn't. Sorry to be so candid but I seriously could've cooked a far better taco meal at home myself. Again this is just my opinion and experience.
