We got the Parrillada for two, it had chuck steak, beef rice, chorizo, chicken, shrimps, potatoes, jalapeños and green onions, and served with vegetable, rice and beans and tortillas. And it was amazing! Juicy, flavourful and honestly leaves you dreaming of more. We also got the 24 oz michelada mix with a beer and it was huge! But really good as well The staff were very accommodating and the atmosphere was chill. You need to put it on your radar!

I was looking around for a menu to place a takeout order and there was a family ahead of me taking up most of the entrance area. Kids were running around, people were sitting everywhere, and it was honestly hard to tell who had already ordered and who hadn't. While I stood there waiting, employees kept coming back to offer that family more things while I was completely overlooked. Eventually I got frustrated and left. Instead, I placed my order through DoorDash and went across the street to McDonald's to grab something for my babies while I waited. By the time I got back, my food was coming out fresh. Now for the good part... I ordered 2 steak tacos and 1 chorizo taco with onion and cilantro. It took me about 15 minutes to get back to where I was staying, and the food was still warm and held up perfectly. The first thing I noticed was how flavorful the meat was on its own. Nice char, great seasoning, and you could tell it was cooked with care. The corn tortillas were clearly fresh and tasted homemade. They pulled everything together perfectly. And this is my ultimate taco test... I saved one for later that night. Hours later, the tortilla still hadn't fallen apart. It wasn't soggy. It wasn't disintegrating. The taco was still intact. Now let's talk about the salsa. They gave me both salsa verde and salsa roja and LAWWWD. The flavor, the spice, the balance... they somehow made the tacos even better, and I didn't think that was possible. I'm so used to the watered-down, Americanized stuff people swear is authentic when it barely has any flavor. This was the real deal. If you're from the Chicago area or honestly anywhere and you're looking for authentic Mexican food with actual flavor, this place is worth it. The taco pizza was my favorite and then the pepperoni pizza. I took a bite out of the mac and cheese pizza, which wasn't too bad either. They also had breadsticks with marinara sauce. The salad bar looked fresh, and the dessert pizza looked amazing. They even let you order any kind of pizza for free, and they can bring you the entire pizza or just a set number of slices. How nice is that!! The service here is actually a lot better than I could imagine!! They constantly have someone wiping off the drippings and food from each station. They have someone sweeping the floor, wiping down tables, and removing dirty plates. They also have someone constantly refilling all the food. Most buffet places just ignore this stuff, but Pizza Ranch really does do a good job keeping the place as clean as they possibly can with kids everywhere. The menu is two sided and manages to have a nice variety without being overstuffed. I ended up ordering the Camarones a la Diabla, as someone who loves spicy shrimp it sounded great. A bit of a wait for the food, but the place was busy with the dining room almost full including a couple of larger tables. The chips and salsa was ok, but nothing special but provided a nice prelude while I waited for the meal. The meal came out nicely presented on a square white plate, which set off the colorful meal. The shrimp were nice sized, plump and well cooked; the sauce was excellent, not overly spicey, but instead complex and delicious with an interesting mix of flavors, it seemed to be similar to a mole instead of just a hot sauce. The refried beans and spanish rice were both good and the guacamole, sour cream and small salad was a nice compliment to the meal. The flour tortillas were very good, freshly griddled and fresh. I was very impressed with El Alegre, the decor is a nice change from most Mexican restaurants. I was very impressed with their version of Camarones a la Diabla, usually it is served with a fairly simple hot sauce, here they created a wonderful and complex sauce that perfectly complimented the shrimp and provided a true treat. If you are in the area and looking for some great Mexican food El Alegre is well worth a visit. The place was packed Well, we had a very good meal with happy service. A big sign on the wall in the kitchen said "work hard and be nice to people ". Gotta love that. So we were coming South on I-90 and remembered El Alegre. Being vegetarian, I usually find plenty of options in a Mexican restaurant (and also Chinese and Italian). This menu had a vegetarian section with about six or seven choices, but I looked over the rest of the very large menu and found several versions of Chile Relleño. I've never seen anything but the one stuffed with cheese anywhere else. Well, they had a version stuffed with vegetables! I had to try it. I am so glad I did. It was delicious and a very generous portion served with rice and beans that rose above the standard usually experienced. My wife had a shrimp dish that I sampled and loved. She said the margaritas were also excellent. So, if you find yourself on I-90, you won't regret driving a couple miles off the highway to find El Alegre!
