Madero Cantina Norwin also had mostly decent reviews, so I gave it a try. I sat at the very nice bar. The atmosphere is modern, not trying to look like Tijuana, with clear background music that isn't so loud that I couldn't hear people across the bar talking. What I'm going to say might sound contradictory. My earlier meal was closer to the Mexican food I was used to in Southern California. But not exceptional. As a vegetarian, I usually start with cheese enchiladas as a way to judge a Mexican restaurant. The service was excellent, and they are definitely vegetarian friendly. Unlike "genuine" Mexican food, their refried beans are vegetarian, without the traditional lard. Their Spanish rice isn't vegetarian friendly (chicken stock used) but they have a vegetarian alternative rice. When they cook for a vegetarian, they use a different grill, so your food isn't cooked in meat grease. I know this because Jake, who served me, covered it all as soon as I mentioned that I was vegetarian. When the food arrived it looked great, and it tasted great as well. If you're looking for genuine Mexican with lard in the beans, this might not be the best local option. But I really enjoyed my meal here, and recommend it highly!

Our party of 5 each had drinks- cranberry margarita was super tasty as was the Mexican mule - which I tried. We started with 2 order of the El Trio with chips - guacamole, salsa & queso For dinner - 2 of our party had very large Burritos & myself & the rest of our group had various tacos, Traditional fish tacos, Mahi Mahi & chicken. (You get 3 large well stuffed tacos) Their corn tortillas are house made. I would definitely come back. Good food - good service & fair price.

It had good reviews on Yelp, so I decided to give it a go. And I'm glad I did. Everything was excellent. The outdoor seating was nice, the workers were friendly, my waitress Jae was very attentive, and most importantly, the fish sandwich was top notch. It certainly seemed to be freshly made and not frozen. I ordered fries on the side in addition to Cole slaw. The slaw was nice and creamy. While I generally don't like battered fries, these were pretty tasty. The only slight negative was the cost. At almost $30 for my sandwich plus a beer, it seemed a little pricey to me. But sometimes you have to pay for quality. I will return.
