They were excellent. Like, the kind where you pause mid-bite and nod. The enchiladas were exactly what you want after a long Tahoe day: cheesy, saucy, and piping hot in the best kind of way. Comfort food perfection. Everything tasted fresh and made with care. A couple quirks to know going in: * Beware the green salsa. It is SPICY. Do not mistake it for guacasalsa. It's actually spicier than the red salsa and has some serious kick. * Chips aren't free and only come in one large size, so plan accordingly if you're just looking for a small side. Overall, fantastic food, generous portions, and totally worth the stop. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town.

We perused the market that is attached to the restaurant while we waited for our order. A great way to past time and loved all the authentic Mexican spices and produce there. Usually restaurants in Tahoe during winter season are super packed on the weekends with long wait times. But La Mexicana delivered authentic food in a prompt manner. Food was good. I got the carnitas and al pastor tacos for the combo. We also got an additional fish taco. The food was more than enough for me. I was pretty full after the two, and I pushed myself to split the fish taco. Fish taco was pretty good and had some good spice to it. I recommend giving that one a try.

We ate in the patio since the inside was reserved for an event. Patio has heaters and fire pits. We ordered watermelon salad, spam musubi, poke salad and coffee (so good). Everything was delicious.

We walked in for a weekday lunch and were greeted by the host. As we were the only diners, she said choose any table. In the beginning, she was very present (maybe a bit too much) and after bringing drinks and giving us a few minutes to consider the menu, she disappeared for quite some time. When she emerged from the back she resumed her seat at the host stand and we had to flag her down to get her to come and take the order. This pattern sadly repeated throughout the meal, having to get her attention for water, items needed for the table, to order dessert etc. On top of that, the bar was staffed but empty during most of our time there, yet the bartender wasn't even looking in the direction of the tables. I ordered the Hawaiian meatballs, which were accurately described as two large meatballs over rice and quite a sizable portion, served with choice of two sides, which I had white rice and a salad. The meatball sauce was like a more savory teriyaki and it seemed the meatballs were cooked in a nice brown beef type gravy too. The side salad was quite impressive as well, and a portion big enough to eat throughout the meal. The salmon bowl my wife had was really great too. These entrees are the clear winner. The biggest letdown wer the poke nachos. In theory these sound great but the portion of poke is so small that it ends up being some tortilla chips with pico de gallo on them and then a small group of cut up tuna. For the price I expected quite a bit more. While the quality of the tuna was good, the portion was just far too small. We also had the Dole Whip. A delicious taste of nostalgia, but for the price, this could be a lot more generous and an item that could go instantly viral for the restaurant if done right. All in all, good, but four is a generous rating. It's a nice addition to the area and one I'll certainly revisit, but it has left me wanting a bit more.
