I recently visited La Rumba in DeFuniak Springs and had mixed feelings about the experience…read more The restaurant itself is beautiful. I really enjoyed the spacious, culturally vibrant atmosphere. The floral décor and star-shaped light fixtures create a unique and inviting environment. I also spent some time near the bar to check out the vibe, and the music fit the overall theme very well. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the atmosphere. My waitress lacked enthusiasm and engagement throughout the visit. When I noticed that the street tacos were priced at $4.99 each, I commented that the price seemed high compared to other restaurants that offer smaller street-style tacos for less. She responded by citing "inflation," and when I pointed out that other places still charge less, her response was, "That's how the prices are in Florida." The interaction came across as dismissive and somewhat rude. I ordered a taco salad with ground beef, which was average at best. Shortly after placing my order, I noticed the La Rumba Signature Salad on the menu and asked if I could switch to that instead. I was told the order couldn't be changed because it would require a management void and they don't like doing those. Considering the request was made almost immediately after ordering, I found that response unprofessional and disappointing. Additionally, I had to flag down staff multiple times just to receive my check. On a positive note, one of the staff members cleaning the bar area was exceptionally kind and took time to engage in friendly conversation. That interaction was genuine, welcoming, and ended up being one of the best parts of the visit. Overall, while the atmosphere and décor are impressive, the service lacked significantly. For a brand-new establishment location, I expected a friendlier and more customer-focused experience. With additional waitstaff training and better customer service standards, this restaurant may have the potential to become a highlight in the area.

It didn't look like they actually took time to present the food in a nice manner. The chips and salsa were very good, but the other items such as the burrito and enchiladas were below average. They do stay open late and they have specials depending on the day of the week, but the food quality needs to improve.

I wish I'd gotten her name so I could call her out publicly - we asked to be seated in the bar area to be in the window and to be warm in the sun, and that was just perfect. Our server was taking care of all the tables on the bar side of the restaurant. She was seating people. She also was re-setting tables and manning the bar somehow. Brilliantly, professionally, and cheerfully. She was probably doing even more behind the scenes, like a superwoman.

I did point this out to the waitress, but when she took it back to the kitchen and brought it back to me, there was literally no difference. I'm thinking she was probably told that was normal by the kitchen because others who had ordered the same sandwich at my table had a very similar serving. Again, this is not like anything I've ever seen before when I've ordered this sandwich at a beef O'Brady's.
