Went to get some more surf fishing gear the other day, at their flagship store. I asked for help, and Brendan stepped in right away. I had questions about everything, from lures to reels, to rods. Brendan provided me with unsolicited information, about all of my possible purchases. He helped me realize that I was doing most of my fishing, in the way I should be doing it. I greatly appreciated the manner in which he was able to steer me, particularly to an awesome, Tsunami two piece surf rod. It is light weight, and easier on my wallet. Plus, various online reviews of the rod, have been stellar. Thanks! Since I am one of those older folk, who would still prefer to touch the merchandise, it is incredible that brick and mortar stores still exist. Thanks, Brendan! Tight lines! read more

116 DAYS WAITING FOR A $625 ROD -- latest requests unanswered I ordered a $625 G. Loomis NRX+ Inshore 843S rod from TackleDirect on May 13, 2026, as part of a $1,301.55 order. The reel shipped separately. As of September 6--116 days later--I was still waiting for the rod. On May 19, customer service explained that the rod required additional vendor lead time and said their next manufacturer shipment would likely arrive "in a week or so." On June 5, it still hadn't arrived, and they offered cancellation. On June 8, they said they had no accurate ETA. On September 3, I gave them a straightforward solution: substitute a specific St. Croix rod only if physically in stock and ready to ship immediately; otherwise cancel the rod portion and refund it. I followed up again September 5. As of September 6, neither September message had received a response. I understand that manufacturer delays happen. Nearly four months without the rod, followed by silence when I request a concrete resolution, is unacceptable customer service. Based on this experience, I would not order from TackleDirect again. read more

Ordered two Star Rod Extra Heavy Paraflex conventional rods with limited lifetiem warranties. Both blanks have snapped in half fighting big fish. When I contacted Star Rods/Calcutta there is no response at all. I have filed 3 claims using their online form with not a single response. The customere service numbers for both Star Rods and Calcutta give busy signals. Do yourself a favor and avoid Star Rods. Terrible product that the manufacturer does not stand behind. read more

*** Buyer Beware *** TLDR: Items listed as in stock were not cc charged nothing delivered... wasted a month and found my items cheaper and actually in stock at another vender. Items listed as in-stock are not... Not the first time I made an order only to learn weeks later.... after they charged my card.... for items listed as the in stock were in fact "out of stock." Not only a big waste of time but a ruined fishing trip to boot. Had they indicated those items were out of stock, I could've gotten them elsewhere and been ready for my fishing trip. If it was a single item or happened rarely it would be one thing, but if you look at the reviews, this is a repeated occurrence here. Having a functioning inventory system is not that complicated. Sorry guys it's a big thumbs down and I won't be spending any more of my money with u in the future. Cancelled sale wondering how long to get my refund... Seriously tempted to file a complaint. Their response... When they list items which they indicate on their web site as in stock and ("Available at our venders") , what they actually mean is those items are not actually available to internet purchasers... then weeks later they send an email alleging that they disclosed that the items were out of stock... super sleazy... read more

Still waiting on my order....should have been shipped last week. Been on order since 6-18-24. today is 7-14-24. The product shows at there vendor and should ship 7-14 business days from date of order. CS told me it states on the web site it was at the vendor and would shop with in 7-14 days when I inquired the last of June. Now they are telling me they don't have an ETA now as of this past week. Website still has the same shipping 7-14 days on the product. Deceptive. I really don't know if I will ever purchase anything else from them again. read more

One of the worst fishing stores in all of NJ, their employees were on their phones, and one stayed in the back when I needed help and seemed very annoyed when he was talking with me. if I were you, I would steer away from this spot, not only was the customer service a 0, but their shelves were empty. if I were you go to a small mom-and-pop shop and not support this business, they do not care about their customers or your business. dont believe these other reviews, give this place no chance it's honestly a joke of a company read more

Ordered two SP Lures 10 days ago, they charged my pay pal account that day. Did not receive the lures, so I emailed them, said they were back ordered, charged my account knowing they didn't have the product, and didn't notify me. I purchased the lures at Cabelas, and cancelled the order, let see how long it takes to credit my pay pal account. I will return read more

I can only speak to the online ordering. My wife and I both placed orders last week, for items said to be in stock and would be delivered within a couple of weeks. We received emails, immediately after our orders were confirmed, that the items are on back-order. The time-frame given for delivery is after the fishing trips we've planned. If they do not show up prior to our travel, I will have to buy rods and reels on the way to the Gulf. I'm praying that this is not the case, as these were great deals we received on this equipment. I see a lot of people complaining about delays, and it seems to be only with the online orders. I won't trash talk these folks. For I don't know them and they don't know me. So, maybe there is a disconnect between your physical inventory department and the info that shows online as "in stock". Again, I am literally praying that our gear arrives prior to July 15th!! read more

I'm pleased to receive my baits. However, quite a few of the packs were lacking the "juice" that keep the baits most. Did your vendors send out old stock? Going that doesn't come back to bite me.... read more

WORST SCAMMERS. AVOID. THEY BASICALLY STOLE MY MONEY. I'VE REPORTED THEM TO THE BBB AND NOTIFIED THE LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT. This review written by a fellow yelper says is all: I am amazed at the Poor customer service This company will take your order and make shipments They will not answer the phone, they tell you to send email, after 10 working days and 5+ emails still no response. They have lost my customer trust and I will plan to tell everyone I know to avoid using them. Totally disappointed Next step report to better business bureau read more

They shipped me a broken Penn Carnage II rod after 3 weeks when they said it was in stock. I ordered a reel on 6/20 and there was a 7-14 business day wait on it, ok no problem. So business day 15 rolls around and I hear nothing back from them, I contacted them and asked about the order and the next day on business day 16, Kelly from cs said sorry its out of stock... One of the most unreliable business I've every with. Placed order at the begining of April here it is the end of May and still have not received my total order! Called several times they keep telling it's on back order. Oh they tell you when you but a reel they will spool it with the line you bought , got the reel and the spool of line was in the box with the the reel. Not that big of a deal, still waiting on order to be completed. This is the last order I'll ever place with them. First time fishing 50+ fathoms and had to outfit according. TackelDirect had the rod I was looking for and it just happened to be on sale. What a great value! Ended up canceling my order. They can't (or don't) indicate if something is out of stock. After 2 weeks I reached out to see what was up, and best they could do is "we haven't received it in from our supplier, when we do we will let you know", with no indication of when it would be shipped. After three weeks and no word, I found a new supplier and canceled my order. read more

If it didn't happen to me I wouldn't believe. I was walking through the store like Rodney Dangerfield in Back to School amassed a decent amount of goods about $1500 worth of items including a travel rod, Shimano bait-caster, combo $450, $120 + $90 flip flops, $90 shoes, $230 Costa shades & $280 Maui Jim's I was about to look for fishing lures and I'm informed they can't find the case for the Maui Jim's. I figure big deal just give me a Maui Jim case from another pair instead of the crappie salt life case you were trying to give me right? No that would just "postpone the problem" says the manager. The very short conversation with the actual store manager revealed he was a true moron and was clueless to a customers wants and overall service. BTW, I've been an online customer for the past 2 years probably spent about $2,000 over that time. So instead of just giving me the case for my Maui Jim's he doesn't budge and I cancel everything except the pair of sandals I was already wearing. At least $1,500 gone probably more with the tackle I was going to buy. And I'll never buy online from them either. Basic customer service should be a given. The kids working there have much better customer service than the idiot manager. Shameful read more

On time and exactly as ordered. Thank you.

I made the unfortunate mistake of trying to order a reel from them. I initiated a return and they processed it. The kicker? They added my phone number to a text spam list. Good til I tried to get assistance on a lost package. Super easy ordering, great deal/value and arrived on time. Fish on!

After waiting three weeks the flush mount tackle boxes are great, one of the boxes trim showed up broke due to UPS mishandling the package(looked like they used it as a soccer ball). I was told by Tackle Direct that I would have to wait until a shipment of new boxes came in (3 weeks) so I contacted Deep Blue direct and they sent out the replacement piece that day. The customer service rep for Tackle Direct sounded irritated that I called to get a replacement and questioned the 3 week delivery expected. On the other hand Deep Blue was fantastic to deal with. read more

Worst customer service ever. Ordered a penn spinfisher combo last month and still haven't received. I have emailed them twice with no response. I have tried to call and they say they aren't taking calls on the message. As far as I'm concerned they have stolen over 200$ from me. read more

Ordered a fishing pole on 6/4/2020. They immediately charged my account then proceeded to claim that my order had shipped on 6/5/2020. Not true! It sat in egg harbor for days. My repeated efforts to reach them went under answered. I was trying to tell them that they forgot to put the street name on the address they provided to USPS. I then contacted several USPS offices to see if I could remedy the situation. Not much luck. So I called my credit card company and reported my problem and asked them to refund my purchase. Still no response from Tackledirect. Unbelievably the rod appeared on 6/12/2020. I no longer want the rod but I can't return it because I can't get Tackledirect to answer my emails and provide me with a Return Merchandise Authorization as per their website. So....stay away from these people. read more

Every time I order online something is missing from my order. Now it's impossible to get ahold of anyone to fix it. They don't answer phones any longer do to Covid. On July 20, 2020 placed an order for an expencive fishing rod and reel combo. TackleDirect charged my account immediately and sent an email confirming my order. The reel was shipped on July 22, 2020 (two days after they collected money). For the rod they only created a shipping label with USPS, but did not ship it. Their online system does not show any progress and says that my order in in process. Their phone number is not working. I send them email to sales@tackledirect.com but did not get any reply. Their chat system says they will reply in few hours but it does not work. Five days after I got a reel and tried to receive an email I decided to visit their store in person and return the combo although I never got a rod. Nonetheless I returned the reel and explained that USPS never got a rod for shipping. They insisted that the rod is in transit and did not refund my order. As of August 7, 2020 I dis not get my refund, the USPS system shows that the rod was not submitted for shipping. Very weird store and horrible customer service. Beware! read more

This company takes orders hoping vendors will have a product vs in store and if they don't the excuse game begins. It seems they are in the rears with a load of merchants and these merchants wont supply until paid. Some wont do business anymore yet the products they offer are listed for sale. lol!!!! So back order is really did not pay and need to build enough business to pay off back debts hoping the merchant will do business . You might be waiting months. Now if the place has it in stock and can actually package it and send you might have a chance but even here its a crap shoot what might show up. Could be both good or bad. Might get a very expensive product while ordering something much cheaper or the the reverse where you paid up the A-hole and get a piece of crap you never ordered. Logistically not sure how this company was still functioning with online orders and still in business. prices were not much cheaper than competent merchants. Found tackle warehouse and they shipped /delivered the longest being a week for which they apologized and gave me a nice discount on additional merchandise. I keep getting spammed to order more from this Company and can't stop the spam from rolling in. My state CA declares this practice illegal but its still happening and not gonna waste time other this one last post to those considering making the terrible mistake to buy here. Just say NO , so your not part of the tragedy movie this place has become. Would score this place a 15 on a scale of 1 to 100% read more

I ordered an Okuma Rockaway Surf Reel and line. I got an email that the line shipped but the reel was on back order.... no biggie.... late the following week I email them to find out the status and get no reply... I email 2 more times the following weeks spacing out my emails for the status and never got a reply. I finally decided after a month to just cancel my order and of course later that exact same day after I already emailed them to cancel the order I get an email that my reel shipped. Fantastic product and good price, it took longer than expected to be delivered but it is COVID times...

I had made an online order from tackledirect.com for over $1500 and I received shipment only worth $1000. All my balance items that was worth $550 have not been shipped, or shipped they shipped it elsewhere! (All these items were in stock and too). I have been frantically trying to get in touch with Tackledirect since almost the last 35days with literally hundreds of phone calls to their toll free and multiple emails. But there has been ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE from their end. It has been over a month and my orders haven't been delivered to me. WTF!!! If i could give a 1/2 star I probably would but i rather give one star. However, their Online ordering SUCKS especially the FREE ECONOMY SHIPPING crap with PROMO CODE! 1st of all...MF'krs should have stated that item is on BACKORDER then I could've shopped elsewhere. So I continued with the ordering process...I get an email that states YOUR ORDER HAS BEEN PROCESSED (cool, I'm gonna get a bad ass reel in a few days). 3days go by and still no tracking #...4th day no tracking #...5th day and so on till day 8 no tracking #...by now im pissed off at these pricks and ready to cancel my order but because I've ordered several other items in the past and had no issues I would give'em a chance to come through. So i call'em by now and spoke with a rep and he explained the delay...as i said! They should've noted ITEM IS ON BACKORDER...they didn't have it and their vendor didn't have it. By the way, I ordered this reel on 10-10-19 and today is 10-26-19. Just 3days ago I finally get a tracking # shipping out from NJ. So now im tracking this shit...this package hit so many delivery hubs along the way and when it hits a post just 15miles away from my home (im thinking just one more day and I'll have it) FAHK DAT!!! It got shipped to LA 380miles away then back up to SAC another 380miles then to somewhere else in NORCAL...mind you FEDEX is handling this package (they suck ass too). OH DAMN!!! Now I received notice in my tracking from fedex that USPS is now delivering my shit! WTF! Sez I'll get my reel on 10-30-19 DAAAAMN!!! Maaaan sometimes you just need to give your local tackleshop the business and i dont mean these big box stores like bass pro shop, cabelas, and other similar to them. Fahk the shipping cost and just pay for the amt of gas to get to the mom n pop shop. FAHK'em!!! I aint trying to cheap because any other time I'd pay for standard ground shipping.
