Friday night was my saving grace to end a turbulent week. With a work colleague we trekked to Dyckman in Inwood / Washington Heights of Northern Manhattan in hopes to dispel the negative energy that constituted a broken spirit. Lured by a A-frame floor sign marked "HAPPY HOUR" we decided to give it the o' college try and ordered mojito and pina colada. This bar contributed further to turbulent and disturbing times. Service was unwelcoming with disgruntled, stolid and unenthusiastic attitude to provide customer service in a hospitality business. At first impression this cafe appears quiet and we entered waiting to be greeted and seated but no hostess offered salutations greetings. We flagged a man who appeared to be a bouncer and customer who cleared one outdoor table under a umbrella and offered the table to us. We ordered our respective drinks which took half hour to be served. Mint Mojito $5 good quality. Pina Colada $5 unorthodox served on the rocks in a double old fashioned glass and very watery. We were baffled at the ghastly sight and content as Tabu is a Latino cafe/ bar and produced a poor quality nontraditional on the rocks. It was NOT served frozen, no pineapple wedge, no maraschino cherry and was not served in a highball glass. I did not taste any rum nor pineapple juice but only coconut juice. Applebee's produces a good quality pina colada than Tabu. Woman, if your business does not have a blender then do not offer this drink to customers and have the courtesy to advise customers: "we do not have make pina coladas because we do not have a blender." However, there was no communication from Marlene our nefarious waitress. Dismay! Look away everything is utter extreme dismay. An atmosphere of malaise. My colleague was somewhat hungry and decided to order chicken tenders and then more waiting, waiting over forty three (43) eternal minutes and subsequently cancel this food order to make a fast exit. Why does chicken tenders take so long to cook? Did the staff have to travel to a chicken farm north of NY's Hudson Valley to slaughter a chicken and travel back to NYC to do the food preparation and cooking? "The reason why it takes so long for your chicken tenders is because it needs to be printed." I did not know chicken need to be printed on a high performance digital printing press to be cooked. The poor communication skills originates in the staff's L.E.P. (Limited English Proficiency). Printing chicken? This is full of malarkey! I rather be jaded than naïve. I wanted to get out from this nexus of evil as I feel WORSE when leaving this business than before entering. Attitude is everything. I displayed my mobile Yelp check-in offer to this antagonistic waitress who did not know what Yelp was and then inquired with someone else and immediately denied this offer discount. Requesting change for our bill also took fifteen minutes as I had to walk to the bar counter and stand in front of the cashier which is a grinding chore for the staff as it create work. Gratuity is automatically included in the bill of 18% and disdain extremely poor service below standard received. This business is very conveniently accessible by A train on the same street and walking distance of the 1 train. "Bye, Felicia!"

Great ambiance and fresh hookah. Hookah will run you about $40 here. We got a pitcher of sangria ($50 so a little pricey after grad. It's $69).... It's only wines, and light drinks such as mimosas & sangrias. One restroom available & it's tiny. Pros: Perfect date vibes: came yesterday with the hubby and we ended the night here at Tabu after a long Sunday of bar hopping. We'll be back soon.

    with friends.

So far so good this has to be one of the best spots to check out on the Dyckman strip. This is my 3rd time coming to this place and all 3 times I have been served right. I have taken family and friends to this place and they love it. What I mostly like about this place is you can either sit outside on a covered patio or sit inside your choice. Has a nice tropical theme to it the atmosphere is great so as the music. By the door there's a security guard name David really nice guy humble at treats people nice. Ounce you're seated down and ready to get served the waitress named Lisbeth will come with the menus. She's such a great person makes you feel at home kind of girl. A hookah guy name John comes to the table he's also a great guy very humble does a great job with the hookah's his skills to make them are great. I highly recommend anyone that is a hookah smoker to stop by this place and check him out The hookahs are greatly priced. One of my favorite things about coming to this place is the hookahs are copper not steel, theirs a great difference in quality most people don't know that. Stainless Steel hookah stems can eventually rust overtime, and can cause a bacterial throat infection with time. Compare to Copper on the other hand will not rust. The music is great DJ plays it all a nice mixture of Spanish and American music. If you're looking to watch a Sports game or even a fight theirs also a few TV's inside. What I also like is they also do karaoke nights, I don't sing but its fun to watch other people try to sign the words of the TV. The food is Fantastic This place is Just a must go spot stop by and check them out you wont regret it.

Does this look appetizing to you? NOT. Never again

I cannot even give this one star. Came here with my friend to have dinner. The waitress advises us that in order to have dinner inside we need to purchase a hookah. Red flag number one. I should have walked out then. We sit outside only to be advised that they only have 4 selection of drinks because they didnt receive their shipment. Red flag number 2. We order our food and when it arrived I could not believe my eyes. The chicken was a tiny little piece rolled up. Nothing else on plate. They tried making it look fancy by adding a flower. Really? Very tacky. We asked to speak to a manager and was told that he was not there. Not sure how this establishment is even in business. I would be embarrassed to run a business this way. I would NEVER go back there again.

The food & hookah were great but the service leaves a lot to be desired. I ordered a drink from the waitress when we first walked in and never received it. We had to keep asking the hookah guy for help with everything but the hookah. We asked for water 20 times and never got it. Finally, my sister went to the bar to complain and that's when we received to water(thank God it was bottled). If it wasn't for the hookah guy I don't think I'd ever go back.

The inside was a tad dark, and the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed, which was to be expected given our large group size and the various other tables they had to attend to. The food, overall, was excellent, with this being the first Spain-ish (last time I'll use this bad joke) spot that reminded me of the Ironbound in Newark. In terms of drinks, they have the usual sangria, wines, sherry, and some standard cocktails, but I went with something that's not commonly found in the city. That was the Tinto de Verano, a refreshing mix of red wine and lemon soda, which I believe was around $12. This is a more local drink from Spain, and I was happy to see it here. They also have the Basque drink Kalimotxo, a mix of red wine and Coca-Cola, for $9. They gave us some bread to begin with, which was munched on and soon used with their delicious sauces. As for the rest of the food, we stuck primarily to tapas, aside from a paella. The first thing that arrived was unfortunately something that I couldn't eat, as I have a cephalopod allergy. This was the delicious-smelling Pulpo a la Gallega for $22, consisting of sliced boiled octopus with paprika, salt, and olive oil. The rest of the people loved it, and from serving it to some people, I could tell it was fork-tender. Outside of the pulpo, we got two other seafood tapas. The $16 Vieras a la Casuela, or scallop casserole with red & green peppers, paprika, and olive oil, was delicious. There were plenty of plump scallops with a mild sweetness accentuated by the olive oil and paprika. The $14 Gambas al Ajillo, or prawns in garlic & white wine, was also excellent. The shrimp were cooked very nicely, and the garlic flavor was as strong as it should be. One of the earlier things to arrive was, ironically, my least favorite. This was the $15 Pimientos de Piquillo Rellenos, or Piquillo peppers stuffed with tuna, egg, olives & vegetables. The dish was cool as expected, and while I liked the sauce, I didn't find the texture appealing. The flavor was a bit light for me as well. Next came an excellent version of Tortilla Española for $13, a Spanish omelette with potatoes & onions. A lot of the other Spanish places mess up the texture, but this was perfectly soft and tender. There were plenty of potatoes in there as well, with the onions only mildly cooked down, which added a little bite. There were also two dishes featuring Serrano ham. One was the tasty $13 Judías Salteadas con Jamón Serrano, or sautéed green beans with said ham. The green beans had a nice texture, and the salty ham added a pleasant bite. The other dish with this ham was the Garbanzos a la Española, which was slightly more expensive but also better. For $16, this consisted of roasted garbanzos sautéed with Serrano ham & chorizo. I was surprised I liked this more, as I usually don't like these beans much, but the mixture was very pleasant with the chorizo adding some nice spice. We also ordered two other dishes with chorizo. First was the excellent Huevos al Antojo for $16 with cottage fries, egg, grilled chorizo, and red peppers. This almost felt like a fancy breakfast option with the thin-cut cottage fries having a nice texture, especially when mixed with the runny fried egg. The chorizo and red peppers added a necessary spice to this dish. Otherwise, there was the simpler Chorizo al Vino, or chorizo in wine sauce, for $14. This was as good as can be expected for such a plain dish, but it was still tasty. Rounding out the tapas was the $9 Patatas Bravas, or spicy potatoes with a cooling white sauce, which was pretty good too. I've had this in plenty of places, and this was decent. I have liked the texture more in some other places, but it was still good and was plenty piquant. Our remaining main dish was the $48 Paella Valencia, which had a mix of seafood and meat. The seafood included one of my allergens, but they removed it, so I was fine eating that dish. Otherwise, I believe the remaining ingredients, aside from the spices and peppers, were mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops, chicken, and chorizo. All the seafood inside was cooked nicely, and the rice had a good flavor. This was an excellent paella, and the portion size was quite large, still served in the large vessel it was cooked in. The remaining dish was dessert, the $9 Tarta de Santiago, or Spanish almond cake, served with vanilla ice cream, which might have been an extra charge, but I'm not positive. The cake had a marzipan flavor and was lightly sweet. It was a satisfying end to the meal. We had a very good meal here. No particular favorites, as everything was very tasty overall.
