This place is a must visit for the ambience alone. It's on the beach, there's a pool near the seating area for the restaurant right before you step onto the beach, there is also a dj playing and a bar that is right on the beach. The seats for the bar are these cool little swings. You might even get to see the donkey roaming around like we did. He's very friendly by the way. Unfortunately we arrived too late in the day to get a cabana. The beach part of the restaurant was closing. The vibe here was amazing. It was vibrant and fun. A bottle of water was bought to our table that was on ice with grapes. I had the seafood paella. It was very tasty but way too big for one person. Since the rest of my party didn't want to try octopus most of the paella went to waste. The rest of my party had burgers and they enjoyed them. I asked for my salmon to be cooked well done but received salmon that was undercooked in the middle. The server asked if I wanted it cooked longer and I said, "No." (I was nauseated and disgusted by this time because I had already taken a bite but spit it out once I saw the middle.) The server said he would remove it from my bill and took my plate. I did not order anything else as again, I was nauseated and disgusted. When the bill came, the salmon was still on there. When we pointed it out to the server, he stated he could not remove it from the bill. We then asked to speak with the manager - who was rude and initially didn't want to remove it as well since I had already taken "a bite." Taboo Beach Club: My overall experience was ehh. We made a reservation before we went to Tulum months prior. We check in with the hostess and she informs us it's $130 a person with 50% of that towards food & drinks for a beach bed. We asked her if we could just eat in the restaurant instead and she said yes. She didn't give this option, again we had to ask her. Service was a little slow and no one even took our drink order for at least 45 minutes. They have an extensive wine menu but when asked about it they told us they only had 10 wines available...of course none by the glass. My lobster salad was very good though and had plenty on lobster. Took a quick trip to Tulum with my girls because we needed to get out the city! We've heard nothing but good reviews about Taboo so we knew we needed to check it out! Thank God we had a reservation, and thank God our reservation was for the time that it was because it started to get packed immediately after we entered. It costs about $100 to enter and get a basic day bed and a portion of that price serves as a credit towards your food and drinks. There's a few day beds within the place but then there are day beds on the beach. Even though you have a reservation, there's nothing reserved so if you get there at a good enough time you can pick out where you want to lay out. The umbrellas are on a first come first serve basis and are also limited. The food was decent. The presentation is very cute, but there's nothing super spectacular about it. There's also a lot of flies on the beach so they land all over. I had the salmon and sweet potatoes and the salmon definitely needed some more seasoning. My friends weren't thrilled about their food either. We also did bottle service and the prices are very similar to the prices of the alcohol at the liquor store in NY. So it wasn't super expensive but it's also not as dirt cheap as you may expect it. They also ran out of some of they bottles we were requesting and we had to take some eh options. We also got hookah and I'm not sure what it is about the hookah in Tulum but it's amazingly good. The music was mixed between club/ house/ and some hip hop. The service was all over the place but eventually our waiter and busboy remained loyal to us. Overall, I have intentions to return to Tulum so I'll definitely be back to Taboo. The issue I had was the food and service. While our waiters were nice, I think management needs to exercise better customer service. I came during my bachelorette weekend in Mexico and we had a fun night dancing at our table (and sometimes on?). In terms of food: the seafood croquettes were delicious! And large enough to share. Also shared the paella, but it was disappointing. I tried my friends Bigerian shrimp and that was super good as well. In terms of drinks: some of our group ordered a drink and all hated it. I got the papas bravas for start. They were just plain potatoes, needed more seasoning and more time in the pan. I offered them to the table (there were 8 of us) and more than half the plate was still sitting there after we finished the meal. I ordered spinach and ricotta ravioli for my dish, it also lacked flavor and needed more cooking time. I am a fan of al dente pasta, but this was still hard.. I had to send it back. I don't do this ever, but I must share since this place was low key traumatizing. Please go to the many other boppin beach clubs down the strip for your vacation trip... I know I wish I had. This is a huge tourist trap disappointment plugged by TripAdvisor/social media platforms etc. and is NOT WHAT YOU think it is... I fell for their advertising and I want to share this with others so others don't. - Power went out three times - all the other restaurants on the strip seemed to have power except for taboo. - Two bachelorette parties seemed disappointed around us and the vibes were mediocre at best. We saw them upsell the parties around us by pushing expensive alcohol. The waiters seemed to take advantage of the drunkest girls in the party who ordered more. When they got the bill they were dumbfounded. I guess this is the game they play at, like get your bag but leave the bride to be alone. -My party ate here for lunch and we ended up getting food poisoning that night and had us down for the count for next half day. This sucked since it encroached on our vacay time and made things very uncomfortable. - Cartels clearly push drugs through this place even though the manager comments and claims they don't or don't condone the behavior, like they do and it's soooooo obvious. When people buy the drugs, they will take them into the bathroom to do them so that other guests aren't doing them. I saw one dealer go into a stall with two other guests in the girls bathroom. I honestly don't care what other people do, but I felt cornered each time I went to the bathroom and it made me feel uneasy and unsafe. Please chill out. - After clearly communicating a severe allergy to multiple staff, my sister went into Anaphylactic shock when we tried to eat here for dinner. When she started having difficulty breathing, I saw our waiter and some other waiters not reacting and mocking her for struggling to breathe. Luckily someone in our party sprinted to nearest pharmacy to get her allergy meds since she left her epipen at home. - we waited for the check for a good amount of time and we were desperate to my bring my sister home. eventually, we called it because we had no interest in eating food that was irresponsibly made. When we told the staff we no longer wanted the food and need to get my sister home to seek medical attention the manager yelled at our party and said that we must pay and ripped the check in our face. Went to taboo with a bachelorette group for drinks before dinner (and then returned again after dinner for the drinks / music). I think I'm getting too old for blaring music because I thought everything at this place was way too loud, but my friends (and seemingly everyone else at this spot) were loving it. It's definitely a party vibe. People by the bathroom will offer you coke / weed, and the waiter and waitresses will bring over sparklers and dance as they deliver a free dessert to whoever it is you're celebrating. Depending on what you're looking for, this may or may not be for you. I had one drink before dinner, and I thought it was really solid. They served it in a coconut (which I wanted them to cut for me, but alas they said no). Most of the drinks feel made for Instagram, but they're good as well which is always nice. We didn't try the food, but the free dessert was pretty good, so I imagine the food is at least passable. One con was we had to pay a cover fee of $120 usd to get in and be able to sit on the beach portion of the venue. Price was a little steep, however they tell you that the price include entrance fee and act as a credit towards food and drink. Being here you can tell it's a hot spot just from looking at the party goers there definitely a beautiful crowd. It's a tourist spot but in a good way.
