TLDR: Convenient and clean 24/7 travel center off I-40 (exit 138) on NC-61 toward Gibonsville in Whitsett. Gas prices posted online. Parking reservations for trucks and truck service. Burger King and Popeyes inside. We have refueled at this travel center for years. The gas is reasonably priced and the bathrooms are large and clean. Plus we can grab a snack or meal inside. It is a popular stop. Short lines are common at the pumps and Popeyes. Pay attention to the directional arrows for ease of travel through the pumps and to the parking spots. Typically we fill up the tank, park, and then grab food or use the restroom. They have ample parking and a grassy area nearby for pet bathroom breaks. Service can occasionally be slow particularly later in the day. The restrooms have ample stalls and are kept clean. In addition to Popeyes and Burger King, the convenience store is packed with snack, gift, meal, and beverage options. Overall, we recommend this travel station to others! read more

This is TA store #2, as printed on the top of my gas receipt and on TA's website (technically, #002 on the site). It's located just off I-85/I-40 exit 138 (NC 61 - Gibsonville) in Whitsett, North Carolina. The outside of the convenience store says, "Greensboro Travel Center." Whitsett is a small town east of Greensboro. It's about halfway between Greensboro and Burlington. I think this is one of the better gas stations to stop at on the merged stretch of I-85 and I-40 in between the Triad (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point) and the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill). This is a truck stop, so it has more to offer. For example, Burger King and Popeyes are attached to the store here. Comparable gas stations/truck stops along this stretch include the Pilots at exits 132 (McLeansville), 150 (Haw River), and 152 (Mebane). There's also a Flying J across the street from the Pilot at exit 150. At the time of writing this review, I'd say those plus this TA in Whitsett are my go-to gas stations in between the Triad and Triangle. If anyone knows better, let me know. Note: I-85 overlaps with I-40 in between I-40 exits 227 and 259. In between those exits, the I-85 exit numbers, 131 to 163, prevail. This TA location uses BP gas. There are 12 pumps. During our visit, at least three were out of order. I used pump #5. There was a sticker of Joe Biden pointing at the total price of gallons pumped with the caption, "I DID THAT!" Heh. I'm not sure he's to blame. Google it. TA stands for TravelCenters of America. "TravelCenters" being one word in this case. I'd return to TA #2 if I needed gas, a restroom break, and/or Burger King or Popeyes. The property felt fairly spacious, clean, and safe. read more

This place is an excellent example for "Room for Improvement" You have a vast parking lot. However it is played out improperly. It also has far too many "proffered parking" spots. The store is rather quaint. Though somewhat disorganized. As to your restaurant . . . . Oh please, are there not already more than enough fast food options. Had to wait several minutes just to reach the drive-through window at the Burger King. Then they told me it was gonna be $12.50 including tax for a junior whopper combo meal. This meal ordinarily goes for $4.75 at any other Burger King so I bailed on that and went inside. There all the snacks were 50% more than the average gas station . So I settled for the peanut butter crackers which were unusually bad and had almost no flavor. I will never again go to a TravelCenters of America for anything! read more

I picked up a loaded trailer in Whitsett that had a flat tire. I had three hours left on my clock to get the load delivered (expedited freight) and then back to my terminal in Durham. I was in a day cab, so staying overnight at the TA for a 10-hour would not have been comfortable. The staff in the service department were excellent! They understand my situation, made me a priority, and got my tire repaired in under an hour. They cared more about me getting safely back home than I did myself. The repair technician was top-notch and did a fantastic job. I cannot recommend this TA service department highly enough. They're the best! read more

It must be very difficult to find retail counter help here because the two people I had to interface with today at the TA were well- let's say interesting. I pulled up to buy $600 worth of diesel fuel and DEF on pump 10 today. When I went to start the pump, the screen said it was "reserved". What? Never seen that one before. So I went inside and asked if I could use my card to get set up on pump 10. The young man said that the pump has been locked all day. That's all he said. I said OK, can you unlock it so I can buy fuel? No he said you'll have to use another pump. So I asked if maybe they could send someone up with cones to prevent big rigs from pulling into a pump that doesn't work because switching pumps in an 18 wheeler is a chore. He looked confused like it was a foreign idea. So I moved over to pump 11 and dragged the garbage can to the middle of the lane on 10 to prevent others from making the same mistake. You're welcome TA. Then after I dispensed my fuel, I went in to get a receipt and to buy a soda and a pack of cigarettes. Well, no matter how much I tried to describe which pack of cigarettes I wanted it just didn't seem to register so I politely gave up and paid for my soda, candy bar, and left in frustration. He literally could not understand "left right up down"suggestions to grab the smokes. Not sure why not. Hopefully the TA folks are paying attention here but I sincerely doubt it. Please train your people? If not, just make the whole thing self-service so truckers can avoid this type of frustration and buy what they want? I was planning on overnighting here and taking a shower, but if you can't figure out how to turn on a pump nor locate a pack of cigarettes, then I can't imagine how bad the showers are. Some TA's are just fine but this one is in need of restarting from the top down. And maybe clean it up too? Geesh. read more

I started coming to Travel Centers of America because of their membership with the Open Roads fuel card for Diesel RV owners. I save a boatload of cash with this card and found a great service center in the process. They have been consistently clean as this one was. The staff were friendly and helpful. First off, they don't use Apple Pay at the pump... really? Wow. Second of all, it wouldn't print my receipt. It said "clerk has your receipt". Third of all, I stood in line at the two "gas pump" registers. An older woman named Angelia was working the register. She was so rude to 2 people in front of me talking to them like they were children and they were grown men. She never smiled once. When she got to me, she couldn't find my receipt. I kept telling her "pump 10, $40.25 premium gas". Even the girl working beside her said "she was at the gas pump. Not a trucker". Finally Angelia rolled her eyes at me and stomped to the other register to print my receipt. Nobody was even behind me. I was the last customer. She didn't even say a word to me as I took my receipt. I even apologized twice saying I had never been there before. I didn't realize that the line that said "gas pumps" weren't the correct lines to get a GAS PUMP receipt... especially without feeling like you did something terrible and catching attitude from this woman. I don't know how the hell she still has a job there if that's how she treats her customers. And again, I was maybe 5th in line and I was the 3rd person she treated so poorly. And the other two she didn't even speak to. Not one word. Not a "hello". Not a "thanks for coming". Nothing. I was facing a great day until this woman... DO BETTER TA WITH EMPLOYEES!!! I love TAs. Truck stop and service station right off I-85. Very large fuel bays for those who drive the bigger vehicles. Easy access. Inside, the convenience store is very well stocked with everything the road traveler needs, including caffeine, sugar and salty snacks. Plus DVD's, car and truck accessories, ballcaps, you name it. Bathroom was very clean. At the moment, this location includes a Burger King and Popeye's. I didn't visit either of those today. read more

When I'm doing a purchase that requires a Driver's license. Employees do not need to handle my Driver's license. They only need to look at it. Verify it and then scan it. They don't have any reason to handle any of my personal belonging. You do not, nor cannot refuse anyone's service because they would not let you handle their Driver's license after showing it to them so that they can verify the date of birth. And scan it. DRIVERS BEWARE! This TA location does not honor the Reserve It parking system. If you buy a spot early in the day and arrive at this location past 10PM and there's no open reserve it parking spots they won't make the trucks parked illegally move. TA is always a nice place to stop on I-85. It's got gas, clean restrooms, convenient store, and 3 choices of places to eat. Popeyes is my absolute favorite, sometimes I just stop here to get some mashed potatoes. Last time I was here there seemed to be a lot of people standing around the building which makes me thing that it is also a transit stop for buses (long trip buses), but that's just my speculation.. Parking is a bit sparse close to the building, but they do have a lot across the street... which is not bad if you are trying to stretch the legs out - just watch the traffic as you cross since that road can be a busy street especially with people rushing to gas up and get back on the interstate. read more

i just want to give a shout out to employees' amber and garrison at TA truck services in North Carolina. i had an emergency repair today on the road headed for a drop off and my truck blew a booster valve! i called the nearest truck shop and amber answers the phone makes an immediate work order! i get directed to an awesome mechanic named garrison and he noticed the issue right away and repaired it! This TA got it going on in the Service department! I recently had problems with my ABS light on my semi. I was first told it will take 3 hours to touch my semi. They had me pull the truck in, in less than an hour. Once I got the truck in the shop The technician Bill was amazing! He had me in and out of there in less than 2 hours. I was extremely impressed. I didn't feel cheated, overcharged or scammed. Overall great customer service from the whitsett service staff. read more

A popular place to purchase cheap gas. They are always crowded, day or night. It is also a truck stop, but they have a separate area for cars. You can also get food and snacks while you are getting fuel, so it makes it a one stop shop for travelers. read more

I had to stop and shut it down and pick up load in the morning. Needed to wash my clothes and their were only 2 washers available the other 2 were down. Their were a total of 4 dryers and 2 only working. This is crazy. Had to wait almost 2 hrs. Fir a shower.
