He was welcoming and made some conversation. As a starter we had Plato variado de embutidos and vitello tonato, all sousage and dried ham. Very tasty. For main we had the paella, which was very tasty, but a bit fatty. For dessert i had the copa amaretto, which indeed tasted of amaretto and the missus had the grand dessert. All in all a very good experience and the price is right!

We ordered a series of tapas with a focus on meat and potato dishes. Every dish was declared phenomenal by all party members (including one low-carb and one gluten free eater) and the staff could not have been kinder. The waiter was always quick with a smile and the chef personally shook everyone's hands as we left. The absolute highlight, though, was the dessert. Every member ate two churros resting on a pillow of whipped cream, drizzled with strawberry sauce, sprinkled with powdered sugar, and stuffed full of warm, gooey chocolate. After eating one of the two, I shamelessly admit that I was tearing up because of the sheer quality of the food. I have never eaten a better churro and I doubt I ever will. Even better, my friend related this story to our waiter when he came by to collect our plates. He laughed for a moment, cleared the table, and returned less than five minutes later with two more beautiful churros on the house. He excused it by saying that they were leftovers, but they were both piping hot and clearly fresh. I was overwhelmed by his friendly nature and the wonderful dessert and found myself crying with happiness once more. I cannot recommend this place enough. I sincerely hope that more people visit and that each one of them tastes the churros.

Ok, so when I saw this place I was pretty excited because I thought it might be a vodka bar.. or at…read moreleast a wine bar.. Haha.. should have known better. I had dinner here with a few friends. After we were seated the waitress asked us what we would like to drink.. so we asked for the wine list. She then stared at us blankly.. pointed to the bar, and said all of our wines are over there. Dumbfounded we turned toward the bar where there was a shelf with what appeared to be about 7 or so bottles of wine on it that all looked exactly the same. We were all speechless we looked at the waitress again. She stared blankly at us for a few more moments.. She then proceeded with" red or white?", and when we said white she said we have Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Um.. ok.. "Vodka and Wines" we won't even ask... Also we made the wrong assumption that being a "vodka bar" they might have a cocktail list. Nope again. In actuality they do have some vodka, but only about 7 or so bottles that we also saw lined up behind the bar. So they do in fact have much more selection of vodka than any typical bar you would find in Holland. But not so much that I would expect the term "vodka" to be in the name of the restaurant. They did have one drink menu.. it was for beer.. huh. Anyways, we ordered from their menu of tapas.. at this point not expecting much. Over the course of the evening my friend and I tried each of the 3 wine wines. 2 of the we didn't like and the third and we found ok. I can't remember if it was the Sauvignon or the Chardonnay. At any rate.. in case you haven't picked up on the theme of my review... DON'T go here for the Wine! The tapas came and we pleasantly surprised that most of them were actually delicious. Hmm maybe they are redeeming themselves. ..? Nope. When the second round of tapas came ,a few of the were actually quite disgusting,.. so there you have it.

Another miss by the Michelin Guide... seriously, what happened here?…read moreYet another head-scratcher from the Michelin Guide in The Hague. How this place snagged a Bib Gourmand is beyond me. The location itself is nice -- right in front of the Kneuterdijk tram stop, across from the VOCO IHG hotel, and just a short stroll from our Hotel des Indes. So far, so good. My husband made a reservation for lunch, which turned out to be completely unnecessary -- there were plenty of open tables. We sat down and ordered their "bread service," which turned out to be... grocery store bread with a side of EVOO from Greece. Now, this is supposed to be a Spanish restaurant, so I'm not sure why we're doing Greek olive oil here. Nothing against Greek oil (love it, actually), but it just didn't make sense. The bread itself? Meh. And yes, you pay for it -- which I know is pretty standard in the Netherlands, but still. For our meal, we just ordered a few appetizers since we weren't that hungry and had another reservation later. We got the sardinas anchoadas -- just three little slivers for 10 euros; shrimp croquetas that barely tasted like shrimp and were overcooked by about 30 seconds (the color gives it away and you bite into a over crispy bite that skins your whole roof of the mouth; and sobrasada, which was chorizo on brioche. Except the "brioche" was not fresh at all -- it was basically sliced white bread cut into a circle and toasted. Come on, guys. We also ordered a board of jamón ibérico, which should've been glistening with that beautiful marbled fat, but it looked dry and lifeless. None of these dishes were standouts, and honestly, not one of them was worth writing home about. We had three glasses of wine with our food, followed by coffee, verbena tea, and crema catalana for dessert. Again -- nothing bad, just nothing special. Everything felt... average. And for the prices they charge, that's a no from me. The bill came to about USD 120.
