Didn't like some of the clientele that walked in while I was there. Menu leaves a lot to be desired as well.

Portly Piper - HUGE menu - seafood page, very reasonable prices

We stopped in Oshawa for dinner after being delayed by a nearby accident and chose Portly Piper Pub…read morebased on its 3,000+ reviews and 4.3-star rating. Parking seemed limited at first, but there's more available in the back. Just a tip: be careful not to miss the entrance, since exiting is a one-way street and re-entering can be tricky. We arrived around 6:45 pm and saw a small line with two groups ahead, but the place is much bigger than it looks from the outside and we were seated quickly in a comfortable booth for four. The pub was clean, and I was especially surprised at how spacious and tidy the washrooms were--not what I usually expect from a pub, which tend to feel older and worn. The menu is huge, and TVs are everywhere--even in our booth. Between us, we tried a good range of dishes: 1. Caprese Salad with Steak - nicely balanced with pesto, though the steak was a little dry. 2. Fish and Chips - incredible portion for $18! Crispy, perfectly cooked fish with fries, coleslaw, and even a Caesar salad. The fries were well-seasoned (no ketchup needed), coleslaw was enjoyable despite me usually not liking it, and the Caesar was delicious. 3. Mexican Salad - flavorful, fresh, and generous in portion. 4. Tuesday Wing Special - wings were $0.90 each, so I ordered 15 with a Coke Zero. The garlic Parmesan was disappointing--dry and lacking flavor--but the Buffalo ranch wings were tender and spot-on. Service was friendly, though our waitress could have been more proactive with drink and water refills. Overall, I was impressed. Clean space, huge portions, good value, and a welcoming pub atmosphere. Definitely a solid stop if you're in the area.

When we went for dinner, it was pretty busy with lots of locals and families. Despite this, the service was great and they got our dishes served in really good time. Also, the portions and pricing is PHENOMENAL - like a seafood or steak main dish for $28-$37?? Amazing. For the 2 of us, we were very hungry so we ordered an EVERYTHING GRILLED PLATTER and GRILLED VEGETABLE & GOAT CHEESE SALAD to share. There was definitely enough food for us. The platter had a good variety of meats. The shrimp and crispy but airy light tater tots were my favourite. The quality of the meats for the steak, chicken, lamb skewers & grilled squid were definitely mediocre and a bit rubber, but still cooked & seasoned well. The salad was overall satisfactory too!

Ughhh, I left it up to my server to surprise me. The Chicken Souvlaki won! It was served open-faced with diced tomatoes and tzatziki on a pita, with a Greek salad on the side. It was the perfect size for lunch. The chicken was a bit underseasoned for my taste but the tzatziki made up for it. The salad was fresh. The ambiance was definitely pub-like, with dark wood interiors and a large bar. Although a bit on the later side for lunch, most of the tables were occupied. That's pretty good! I'll have to come back to try the Fish n'Chips!

They have a wide variety of classic pubfare to choose from as well as some dishes you might not typically expect from a pub. We had Spring Rolls, Mozzarella Sticks, Pierogies, and Cajun Crab & Lobster Bowtie Pasta. The Cajun Crab & Lobster Bowtie Pasta was an absolute knockout winner for me. I did not expect to have pasta this tasty in a little pub. We watched the game and enjoyed the great environment together. There's a dart board and plenty of TV's for all your sports needs

As per usual, the service was extremely slow but I told them it's just because Bowmanville runs at a slower pace than Toronto. However, I never understand why it always takes so long for the waitress to bring our drinks at The Deck. This time the waitress brought our three waters and then we waited another 7-10 minutes for our beer. She brought us the two beers we ordered and another water for my one friend. As if she forgot she has just brought us three waters already. I recommended the Deck salad to my friend because I've enjoyed it in the past, as indicated in my previous review. When it arrived, it was the saddest looking salad ever. Also, please not it didn't have a single kale leaf despite the description being that it is a kale salad. The dressing was completely tasteless, perhaps just pure oil. My friends also ordered fries, which were cold. My friend ordered the fries based on their description of being double fried because she likes them crispy. She said they didn't taste double cooked at all. We also asked the server for vinegar and ketchup twice before she brought it. However, she did bring the mayo, which my friend asked to be brought with the fries (because of dietary restrictions.) Apparently the menu descriptions and what you get do not align. The menu should indicate that you will receive a variation of what you hope you're ordering. At the end of this disappointing lunch, the waitress asked if she could clear our plates as we were finished eating. We said yes. Then she proceeded to walk away without clearing any of the plates. As we was leaving, we asked if she could bring our bills. She gave one to me and my friend and my other friend, who only ordered one thing - a burger - had to wait for another bill because she charged for the wrong thing. Which may have been surprising to make a mistake when only one burger needed to be charged, but we unfortunately (or fortunately, as we were prepared for this) expected this. Not impressed. I should have photographed the salad to post but I was too sad!
