I've been waiting for nearly 2 years to go here since they were closed for renovations on the rifle…read moreranges. Not only were the rifle ranges renovated but the ENTIRE site was renovated! The renovations were built using quality materials (thick wood and steel) and are meant for long term use. Montgomery county outdid themselves with this project. Props to the team at MCSC for doing a fantastic job! The road leading to the range is freshly paved and very smooth. Some of the ranges I've been to have bumpy dirt roads to access the area. This place there's no need to worry about any of that. You could drive a mustang out there and not worry about it getting stuck or scratched. I talked with the folks in the office and they were very friendly and welcoming. Friday is the day to go if you want a more relaxed and quiet experience, since it's less busy that day. Saturday and Sundays are usually the more busier days, weather permitting. They do offer a lot in exchange for any volunteers that want to help out, free range time being one of them. I took some pictures on my phone and from a drone and you'll be able to see the scale of this place. No matter what kind of firearm you have, there's a place for you to have fun. The 400 yard rifle range will be open at the end of the month, as long as everything goes according to plan. All other ranges are open. For those of you that are wanting to shoot bows, I did notice an archery range. I didn't shoot at this visit, but I will be updating this review once I have the time to try out every exhibit. I did meet the manger of MCSC and she was very kind to me. I will be updating some of these pictures with ones taken directly overhead of each individual range.

When I first walked into Royal Range, it can feel disorienting since there is often a line or the staff are busy helping someone. However what I learned is of you either, 1. Wait in line or 2. Walk and look around, someone should become available within 10 minutes or so. Couldn't have imagined a better experience if I tried! I initially called to check availability and Wes was very friendly and answered all my preliminary questions. When I arrived, he took time to recommend a rental - the phoenix trinity 2011 (which was amazing to shoot) - and explained the reasoning behind that choice. All of his advice was spot on and he then took the time to explain grip, stance, safety, and answer the multitude of questions I had. He even took the time to let me practice with dummy rounds so I was comfortable reloading and knew how everything worked. At no point did anyone make me feel bad about being a beginner - despite there being other customers who clearly were much more advanced than me. The rentals are also very noticeably well maintained. Since this was my first time shooting at a range and I didn't feel comfortable being alone, he incredibly kindly contributed his time to come in to the lanes with me and make sure I was comfortable, doing everything right/safely, and answer further questions. I can't begin to express my gratitude for Wes spending so much of his time to make this experience once I thoroughly enjoyed. I learned so much and I can't wait to come back! I would go out of my way to come back to this place specifically - it's worth it.
