While the sign on the door indicated that store is opened until 6 PM on Sundays, the place was closed and locked up. There was no sign to indicate why it had closed at least two hours before the time specified on the door. This is just one of several troubling events that have occurred for us at this location. A few months ago we tried to buy a phone plan and submitted all the required information, but then were told that the forms could not be processed that day and we should come back the next day. We did. But the person working that day, who we learned was the manager, could not find the paperwork. Even a phone call to the sales person who had been working the previous day proved fruitless. A huge waste of time. Then, during this past week, when one of us stopped at the store in mid-afternoon to ask a question, the store was closed and locked up. We found a blue post-it note on the door saying the the sales person would return at 5PM. It is great that some people have done well at this store, but our experience has shown that its manager and its sales staff are unprofessional and incompetent. We had hoped to do business locally by trying to get phones for our family at this location, but we now are persuaded that we must go out of town to do so.

Then, some other people came in, ostentatiously stated "I don't feel like waiting," jumped the queue, and got immediately helped even though several other people were waiting as well. The guy working seemed not to have any sense of how much this annoyed me and the other people in line. I walked out without buying anything and took my business elsewhere. I know that in Hanover there's virtually no competition so people don't care about basic customer service, but the internet exists now too so there's really no reason to wait around hoping to be helped by people who couldn't care less.

UPDATE: Just spoke with the manager (Sunday), he was very apologetic, said the warehouse hadn't delivered to his store on Thursday, as they should have. We buy dog, horse and chicken food, paint, lumber, and much more and have usually had helpful, if somewhat spotty, customer service. ACE sent a flyer out with a bogo sale for paint in the days before Labor Day, 2018. When we went to our local ACE store-- Central Supplies-- it was closed on Sept. 3, the last day of the sale. They are normally open on Sundays so we were annoyed that we had driven a 10-mile round-trip into town for nothing. But when I called the next day and asked if they would honor the flyer's terms, given they were closed on the last day of the sale, I was told "no". I explained that we were loyal customers and that, if they were an ACE store, we expected that they should honor the terms of the flyer. Finally, after a clerk must have consulted someone, we were offered 50% off our second gallon of paint. I said, "thanks but no thanks" and hung up. I then tried to contact Bethel Mills, their owners, for a manager and ended up leaving a message but no one has bothered to get back to me. I try to buy local in my small, rural community but more and more, the "big box" stores are making it easier to buy-- credit cards, finance plans, military discounts, larger selections, online ordering with 2-day delivery right to my door. The only thing my local store can offer is better customer service but it seems Central Supplies/Bethel Mills just can't be bothered. They should opt out of the flyer if they don't want to be open on a holiday weekend. By the way, we went to Lowe's instead and they were open and happy to help us.
