A scenario, that in this day and time is unbelievable, has befallen us. We purchased a brand new house about three years ago. After signing the documents and during our time of getting things arranged, we had to perform necessary duties to live in a house. We called the water company to get the life-blood of humans and mammals worldwide delivered to our house; no problem. We called the electric company so we could have creature comforts like heat and A/C and television and refrigeration; no problems. Our next items of business proved to be both inconceivable and impossible, and as frustrating as Sisyphus trying to get that stupid rock up to that top of that stupid hill: set-up cable TV and internet.
As hard as it is to believe, my brand new neighborhood of about 100 houses (with additional phases bringing the total up to 160 eventually) HAS NO CABLE OR INTERNET! Yes folks, apparently we live in a neighborhood that appreciates the limited entertainment options that were afforded our forefathers before 1950's. You know what else our neighborhood doesn't have: landline telephone! I am serious here folks. When one moves into a brand new house in 2016, one expects these amenities to be present. Imagine our surprise when, after asking neighbors and HOA officials, we learned we have none of those!
Being that both me and my wife basically work from home, this was a problem that was going to be tough to overcome. Option 1: internet hot spot. Problem: its expensive as hell! Option 2: satellite internet. Problem: its expensive and unreliable. Option 3: buy an internet company and wire our house ourselves. Problem: VERY expensive and I couldn't tell you the difference between an internet cable and a jumper cable. Not to mention I only own one tiny shovel and child labor laws aren't conducive to forcing my 8 year olds to dig holes in my yard without paying them. So we were down to option 4: buy a new cell phone and use the cell phone as a hotspot.
For this, we ultimately chose TMoblie. They offered an international plan that is $90 a month for unlimited everything. You may wonder why we went with this option. Well, my wife had a phone that was not a smart phone and didn't have internet. So we brought her up to date with an iPhone with internet and all that. We can now use that phone for Neflix and internet activity. This solution is working out well for us. I wouldn't recommend it if your job is internet based (doubtful you would be put in this position anyway) but we like it.
The people at TMobile were so helpful as well. They let us take the phone home and use it for up to 14 days to see if it would fit our needs. If not, we could return it for no charge. We took it home and it didn't work on the regular plan, but the upgrade to international (an additional $10 per month) did the trick. We got the iPhone 6 for $250, so a great deal. Also, there is no 2 year plan or commitment; it is month-to-month, another huge plus. Nobody wants to get locked-in to a phone plan anymore.
I would highly recommend talking to these guys if you are looking to change your service. read more
